“Connie!” Pearl exclaimed happily, happy to see her pupil again. It’d been far too long with everything that was happening lately. Far from being bothered by her question, Pearl seemed to light up at the request.
“You want to learn more about the Crystal Gems?” For Pearl, a ton of her friends might as well just have come back from the dead. “Goodness, I don’t know where to start…well, in terms of diversity, you have to remember that Gems come from all over the galaxy, not just one planet. You can only make so many types of Gems on any given planet. You can’t make Rubies on Epsilon V, for example…nor any type of Obsidian other than Snowflake.”
“Actually, come to think of it, the types of Gems Pink Diamond created on Earth aren’t anywhere near as diverse as the organic life on this planet.”
“Ah, but I’m getting off-topic! You wanted to know more about the Gems.” Who should she start with though? Well, while on the subject of the Gems of Epsilon V…
“Well, many Gems took on different roles once they joined the Crystal Gems. That is, different than what they did before. I’m certainly a prime example of that but there are many more. Bismuth used to make structures for the higher class Gems, but she decided to make weapons for the rebellion. Little Larimar used to make ice sculptures for the Diamonds, but when she joined the cause she decided to focus on crafting forts and other structures in the colder parts of Earth. She was part of some very important battles, in terms of preparation.”
“Oh!! Kiiinda like how hanging out with you guys went from introverted book-nerd to... sword-fighting, world-saving, friend-having! ... book-nerd. That part’s the same.”
“Aanyway. I think I know what that’s like. Having this... path set in front of you since... before you can even remember. It seems like there’s no way out...”
“B-but then St- then the Crystal Gems came along, and they change everything — for me, for all of us.”
