        HIS SMILE WIDENS A LITTLE, PLEASED.   “ i’d like to meet them, ”   he agrees, and it makes tommy actually a little excited for graduation tomorrow. he already has a pretty solid idea of her parents in his head, but he’s excited to see how accurate it is.   “ i’m trying to be, ”   tommy echoes her words with a little smile, though he’s not trying to be smart ;   he too is trying to make sure his thoughts don’t go back to gallagher as well. it’s bad enough he’ll be returning in the fall, which doesn’t seem like nearly enough time for a cleanse.   “ that depends if you’ll have a souvenir for me from your road trip. ”

“Good.” Since she has definitely spoken to them about Tommy which is the one thing she’ll omit. “I think I can manage to spend a dollar or two on a keychain or something.” Maire laughs softly, maybe it was something that she was already thinking about doing though there were way too many things going on through her mind. “You’ll have to come see me anyway, though, you know so we can do a take two of the portrait.” When she’s got a degree in art and everything.

“What, you’re not trying to share? And with one of your closest friends?” He teased, though, he wouldn’t try to swipe food from her. He wasn’t hungry anyways. “Alright, you can have it. Just because you’re a fourth year.”

“I’m feeling particularly selfish.” Maire shrugs as if that’s enough of an excuse though clearly she has a soft spot wherever he’s concerned. “I’m willing to make a trade, if you’ve got anything worthy to offer.”

      “Oh, that’s so valid!” Hana enthuses, also very passionate about her food rights. “Sort of! It’s so weird to think it’ll be over soon. I mean, just my first year, for me, but… With everyone leaving, and the president going… Feels very final!”

“Glad someone else here agrees.” Maire looks around as if they were in on some sort of special joke. “It does feel like the end of an era, doesn’t it? Hopefully your future president is someone who lives up to the Sutton name.”

“Oh, yeah, they’re keep restocking the tables. The food’s so good, I’m not surprised it’s going out quickly,” she says. “Oh you totally should! There’s a lot of delicious cocktails.”

“They’re probably going to run out this time.” Everyone seemed to be in a particular celebratory mood within good reason. “What’s your cocktail of choice for tonight?”

“Wow, delusion? That’s strong coming from the fairy princess herself,” Ria took a small bit on her fork, eating it and then looking over at her friend, wide eyed and fork still her mouth. It would have been a faux-flirt if she wasn’t so tipsy, “Do you really have to leave me?”

“I am a fairy princess it isn’t my fault that’s what life handed me.” That is how she had viewed herself her entire life and should have perhaps let it go at some point especially now that she’s older but it still suits her. “Unfortunately, I really do. We still have tonight and tomorrow, though.”

       “ REALLY ? ”   he says, as if that’s not obvious that her parents would be there.   “ i’ll be there, tomorrow. maybe i’ll get to see them. ”   it’d be nice to meet them, but tommy doesn’t want to ask. seems a little weird.   “ sounds like you’re busy, ”   he notes, fingers drumming against the glass in his hand.   “ i got an internship in geneva for july and some of august. i’m going to go back to london with my brother for about a week, and then i’ll be doing some traveling before going to switzerland. maybe after too, if there’s time. would be nice to see amsterdam again, ”   tommy smiles slightly. 

“I’d like for you to meet them.” She says finally only because his words made her feel like it’s less strange. They were friends after all and that made him important enough. “I’m trying to be.” Mainly because she is afraid that if she isn’t constantly busy her thoughts will all come back to Gallagher. She wants to ensure that she can succeed in all the different aspects of her life. “Sounds like you’re also going to be very busy.” A pause as she takes a drink from her own glass. “I’ll be around if you can fit me somewhere in there.”

        THINKING ABOUT HER WINGS AND OTHER POSSESSIONS being shipped off to seattle finally makes it dawn on tommy :   after tomorrow, he’s not sure if he’ll ever see maire again. the smile he offers her is twinged with sadness.   “ that’s too bad. how long are you going to be in seattle for ?   excited to go home ? ”

“Just a week.” Maire informs him. “I’m mostly excited to see my parents, well, they’re going to be here for my graduation, actually.” A part of her wants to tell him that she’d love it if they met but she doesn’t know if that’s sort of odd. “After that we’re flying to Dublin but I’ll be back in the states for my roadtrip with Carm later in the summer. What about you? Got any plans, maybe with a mutual friend of ours?”

She can’t control the laughter out of her lips when Maire says that to another student. Noah’s had a bit to drink, so she’s in even higher spirits. “Fourth years are just superior tonight. I think you broke that student’s heart… He seems like he really wanted that.” 

“I’m sure they’ll bring out other food later on.” Maire shrugs, there’s always plenty to eat at a Gallagher party. “Looks like you’ve been enjoying the bar, though, I gotta catch up.”

“It is not your end of the year party because we’re not talking about you leaving until you’re out of those gates!” Ria pouted, reaching for a fork to then hold out towards Maire’s plate. “One bite, pleaaaaase.”

“If you want to live in delusion then who am I to deny you that.” Maire talks dramatically but it doesn’t take long before she cracks a smile at the other blonde. “One tiny bite. Fine.”

      “ HEY, I’M NOT COMPLAINING, ”   he chuckles, not even bothering to look at her plate. instead tommy’s eyeing her outfit.   “ i like the wings. miss the fairy ones, though. do you still have those ? ”

“Uh, yeah, I do.” Maire begins. “They’ve been shipped off to Seattle, though, they don’t make for good carry-ons.” She actually had very little left at the school, just enough to get her through a couple of days before she was off for good.

      “Oh!” Hana blinks, not having realized she’d been staring at the other’s plate. “No, you’re so fine, I think you’re entitled to it.” She shakes her head. “Sorry, I zoned out overthinking what food I wanted.” 

“It’s fine, it’s fine.” Maire waves her hand as if waving her entire apology off. “I’m very defensive about my food but there’s enough to go around, I guess. Are you having a blast?”

“I’m taking this whole piece for myself, you can go find something else, I’m sure.” She is referencing whatever food is on her plate, it can be anything I’m not creative. “I think as a fourth year I’m allowed to be selfish at my end of the year party.”

Stella lowers her phone at the sound of Maire’s laugh, mostly because it doesn’t quite sound like Maire’s usual laugh. She smiles as she listens, being nosy something they have in common, but also understanding what Maire might be feeling. “Yes, I know.” Leaning forward and curling her legs to her chest, she gives Maire her full attention. “Do you think it’s Gallagher you’re hung up on, or the people?” Her smile is as soft as her voice until Maire mentions three more years. “Oh, I’m sure Blair will have fun.” 

“Well, the people.” She begins as if it’s something that should be obvious though she pauses. “I’ll miss Gallagher being, like, super dramatic cause I doubt the art industry is as dramatic but otherwise mostly it’s the people. Blair, Jas, you...” More that she could list though she doesn’t feel the need to. Stella’s words make her pause. “Does that mean you aren’t coming back?”

      𝚝𝚑𝚎  𝚜𝚒𝚕𝚎𝚗𝚌𝚎  𝚝𝚑𝚊𝚝  fills  the  room  just  feels  ODD  .  maire  packing  some  of  her  belongings  makes  it  feel  that  much  more  real  that  their  friend  is  graduating  and  leaving  gallagher  for  good  .  they  turn  to  face  her  .  just  as  they’re  about  to  break  the  silence  ,  she  beats  her  to  it  .  “  would  snapchat  videos  suffice  ?  and  also  is  this  timezone  dependent  ?  i  gotta  schedule  it  correctly  .  ”

“Of course. Any platform would be would suffice if it’s you.” Maire smiles at her friend. It’s difficult not to think about missing them now that they’re so close to being separated. “I think I’ll be about six hours ahead of you so maybe while you’re going to bed and I’m waking up we can do it.”
