So you guys know how there's the Sakamakis and the Mukamis. Now we take the first letter of each family nameโS and M.
NOWWW HERES WHAT I THINK ahem ahem
โข The Sakamakis were the first ones, the pure sadists appearing in HDB. (ignoring Reiji's hidden slight masochism...ouuu) Most if not all of the Sakamaki brothers are pure sadists wanting to control and mess with your mind
This points back to my first though about the first letter of the Sakamaki name: S
S = Sadism
Because they are probably the main sadistic group, the S in Sakamaki represents that
Now onto the Mukamis. M is their letter
Unlike the Sakamakis, the Mukamis do not have "pure sadism". Why? Well I think it is because the M in Mukami is based off of "masochism". NOW WAIT, LEMME EXPLAIN
Ruki, Yuma, and Kou are yes, sadistic. But they hide behind sadism even if they all know they are being controlled by Karlheinz.
Ruki was "saved" by him and thus is obsessed with his duty to him. That level of obsession turns into submission, viewing the vampire king as his own father figure and thus may not care about the pain that it costs anymore. His sadism is only a mirror of Karlheinz, trying to sound authoritative to control better.
Kou's childhood taught him that humans are cruel and bad. Now he is afraid of receiving unconditional loveโhe CRAVES to be rejected and told the truth anyways. Isn't that a bit masochistic? He's probably sadistic to also get control...
About Yuma..... while physically aggressive, his trauma is rooted in the pain of loss and labor. He accepts the heavy burden of his past and serves as a protector who endures physical hardships without complaint- hmmmmm
so basically they're all submissive

The Sakamaki brothers are born royalty, corrupted by their mothers. The royal status feeds their sadism towards mortals or lower beings. The Mukamis were saved from the gutter by Karlheinz. They are more likely to be submissive because they have a "father figure" who saved their lives as children.

Anyway this theory is going nowhere so I'm going to end it here (this was rushed rushed rushed)
theory + headcanons for poor Kanato Sakamaki ๐ป๐
So I will just dump what I've thought about, it is from a chat between me and a friend :)
I feel like Kanato is just age regressing to cope after finding out why exactly Cordelia made him sing all the time as a child
As if he didn't want to grow up "broken" so right now he's trying to make up for his childhood by age regressing and trying to retry his childhood as a spoiled child instead of being ordered around for pleasure
Eventually, he realizes he is quote unquote "too old" to retry his broken past and so that breaks his viewpoint and now thinks that everything will be just ordering him even if he just wants to go back to being a nice child
I have a thought he makes wax dolls specifically of past sacrificial brides BECAUSE he is either trying to find the perfect doll that would represent his motherโCordelia, a lot. Yet he fails.
After some time he breaks even further, he would probably regret killing Cordelia and just want her back to be his mother once more and maybe fix what was left broken of the past. Reiji DEFINITELY HAS a severe inferiority complex under that superiority complex mask (I can fix youโcome to meee....) but Kanato would probably also have one that derived from childhood trauma and had grown worse from his age regression.
He'd think he's filthy for letting Cordelia order him and drag him around, making him sing until his throat burned, he feels stupid for not knowing any better, and he also feels genuinely broken both outside and inside. He doesn't look as old as his brothers do. He thinks he's frail and meant to be discarded after use.
Kanato would definitely kind of regret age regressing because he already looked like a child, why act one if he already hated it so much? His own actions were colliding with his thoughts in such a wrong and troublesome way to the point where he doesn't know what to do anymore. Should he follow his thoughts? Should he follow his heart? He doesn't know. He doesn't know what to do with his vampire life, he doesn't know what his purpose is, he doesn't know how to fix himself and piece that used, broken boy underneath back together into a happy whole.
I headcanon he talks a lot to Teddy because:
1. Its a gift from his mother, and what i said earlier he was wanting his mother back to rebuild his viewpoint of his past.
2. Because that stuffed bear was his companion since childhood. Teddy's witnessed every crude order Cordelia made him do. Teddy's witnessed Kanato's pain and trauma. That's why he tries to keep his beloved bear safe while also depending on the stuffed animal for decisions, advice, and guidance (even though it doesn't talk, it helps him.)
This is my headcanon though, it is kind of sad :((

but then think about itโhe was feared AS A CHILD.
Now I believe he weaponized that fear for control once he realized he needed it. If people will not respect him out of love even as a child, then surely they will obey out of fear.
He makes drugs and poisons, yes?
โข In gothic stories, poison making often symbolizes a character's need for control. As if they can overcome their weakness and change their future/fate. Reiji wants to have control over EVERYTHING so he won't be "lost".
Now about his relationship with Shuu (as brothers) I don't think he hates him fully. Because why would he be cooking for someone and feeding someone he hates? Yes major dislike is there because of the envy but its really just because he feels second rate.
Remember when Karlheinz gifted them two things: a violin for Shuu and a... freaking pocket watch for Reiji...
Violin = beautiful artistic instrument
Pocket watch = a tool to measure time
This event scarred Reiji because that was the turning point that he was only going to be a shadow behind his gifted brother's back. But I imagine after his mental breakdown, he tried to make use of it. Dismantling the watch, observing gears and stuff. He desperately tried to love the only gift his father ever gave himโa tool that defined his destiny to be controlled rigidly by time, manners, and rules. He admired his father and so this broke him.
Now unlike Kanato in my last theory (who used age regression when he was A GROWN VAMPIRE)
Reiji most likely did age progression even as a child. Having to act as a "father of the household", it wasn't just a coping mechanism (part of it is) but he needed to step up when the actual heir didn't. He had no choice. He isn't fully aware of what it would be like to look up to someone else, to admire their work, talent, and effort. Because he had no one to look up to. He was the one people either feared or admired. And while it feeds his superiority complex, he longs for someone to step up, take over, and tell him that he did well and from here on he will be safe and he needs to rest. He didn't look up to Beatrix simply because his dignity did not allow him to admire someone who was supposed to take care of him, yet chose his brother over him.
...Can he ever step down to be carefree once more...?
No. No one will tell him that. He's already decided that this is his fate and he should take it seriously, that he cannot escape his duty no more. That Reiji is no longer the younger brother of Shuu Sakamakiโor the youngest child of Beatrix. He now has to bear what his own brother tossed at him while maintaining a facade that tells everyone he can handle it, just to prove he can be useful.
Just like Kanato, he wants you to see he's suffering, hes tired, he just wants to stop being the responsible one, but he can't. He also wants to prove he's useful. Basically his need for people to notice his suffering, and his want to prove he's useful create friction with each otherโjust like how in Kanato's theory, he wants to regress but also doesn't want to be called a child.
It's also such a sight to see the awkward interactions between Beatrix and Reiji
Telling her he memorized a whole book while getting no reply? = Awkward tension that boils into emotional turmoil.
No one wants to use the ointment he made even though he PROVED and TESTED it was safe and actually far superior than most medicines? = Absolute chaos in this little boy's mind.
The fact Beatrix did care for her children yet did not know HOW to care properly makes me squirm whenever it gets awkward ๐ญ she tries to bond, to talk with Reiji, but his dignity does not allow him and he retreats to somewhere else, someplace where he could not hear the words "heir" and "Shuu" in the same sentence.
I need to put this man under a microscope. I need to study every single microbe in his body.
