"DC wasn't a great father and had a very high expectation of his son and expected more from him. He loved his son since day one but he also didn't know how to translate that back. Nearly being killed by your own son, he harbored a lot of anger from what happened and chose to ignore the idea he pushed his son away enough that he was the cause. DC admitted regret of how he raised him saying he realizes his son never got the love and warmth he deserved as a child. He wants to have his son back in his life but recognizes it will not be easy. Instead of seeking him out he's letting his son decide for when he's ready.
