“You’re still hungry?” She raised her eyebrows in surprise. “And you have a girlfriend, boy, get off my chest.” She scoops him up gently and holds him close with one hand as she pushes herself off the ground. “I don’t know what else to feed you.” Stroking his head again, she goes into the house and starts rummaging through the crisper. “See anything you like?”

Marcus made another little squeaking noise as she lifted him up, the speed of the movement and height a little disconcerting. His eyes scanned and locked onto something. "Bread?"

She gave a small ‘oof’ as he landed on her stomach, her eyes flying open to meet his soft blue ones, raising an eyebrow. “You wouldn’t be so forward if you were human, would you? Done?”

He couldn't explain the instinct.  "I've got a girlfriend," he said, making a little squeaking noise he had no idea how to make. "But I - I'm still hungry."

She laughed at him, and lay down on her back, one hand resting on the grass, one on her stomach. It was quite a clear day, and the temperature was just right. She sighed happily, and closed her eyes.

Marcus finished the carrots in a time he almost considered sickly.  But he was still hungry. It was almost impossible, his small form not enough to contain this much. He jumped up onto Ruby's stomach and looked at her.

Ruby was startled at his enthusiasm. “Aren’t you…new to this? Shouldn’t you be taking little nibbles, not chomps?”

Marcus took a moment to swallow and glance up at the girl, tilting his head so he could see. "I am hungry," he simply said, and went back to munching on the carrot.

"Why... am... I... so... hungry?"

Ruby quickly pulled a couple of her riper carrots out of the ground, figuring it was more than enough. She pushed them towards Marcus, or where she thought Marcus was. Looking around, she spotted him a little ways away, underneath a bush. She picked the carrots up and walked over to him slowly, figuring his senses were much more acute now, and she should probably be quieter. “Here, sweetie.” She sat down beside the tiny creature that was housing her friend, and lapsed into a contented silence.

Marcus's nose picked up the sent before she'd even begun walking over. He propped himself back up and bounded to where he could smell the carrots.  Quickly spotting them, he began nibbling at them.

"Why... am... I... so... hungry?"

She opened the gate to her garden with one hand, cradling him against her chest as she did so. Giggling, she kissed the tip of his quivering nose and set him down gently on the grass. “Hang on, I’ll dig you some carrots.” She rolled her eyes as she heard herself say that.

Marcus experimentally hopped around a little, just in a small circle. Everything seemed so big; it was so disconcerting. He could feel his nose twitching, feel things brushing by the ends of his whiskers. Strange. With an inward sigh, he laid down.

"Why... am... I... so... hungry?"

“Carrots, of course. And some strange witchy herbs that I can’t be bothered to pronounce right now.” She stroked her thumb over his head, gently soothing him. “So what happened? Grey faces, I presume.”

Marcus's mouth, had he been human, would be watering by now. The sound of carrots; the thought of them; was enough to make him want to do a bunny backflip.  Then he cringed inwardly. "Nah. Or, well, sorta. I was workin' on a spell o' my own. It backfired, somewhat."

"Why... am... I... so... hungry?"

“That’s very nice of you. And you’re suddenly very small. It’s quite adorable.” She nuzzled his head with her nose before she started walking towards her house. “I’ve got a small vegetable garden. You like?”

Marcus wasn't sure about how he felt being man-handled, but his weird instincts told him to enjoy the sensation of being patted. Even if it was with a nose.  "Strangely," he said through his little mouth. "That sounds amazin'."

Ruby picks up the adorable bunny. “Hi baby. You’re much more adorable as a bunny.” She winks conspiratorially at him and then shakes her head. “You’re a bunny. This feels weird. Let’s go get you some more food.”

Marcus's ears twitched as he was lifted off the ground, his breathing coming out in quicker gasps. Being a rabbit was way weird. He wanted to roll his eyes at her, but the effect came out as more of a shake of the head. "Ya know, ya really warm?"

“I can.” She shrugged. “So can you Alchemists really make gold?”

Marcus nodded slowly. "There is a chemical that, when somethin''s dipped in it, can turn things to gold. Only few Alchemist's actually know what it is, though." He frowned. Yet another secret the Alchemists kept.
