THE EXTENDED HISTORY OF MANIFESTATION, REALITY SHIFTING, ASTRAL PROJECTION, SPIRITUALITY, ETC.
no tldrs, no summaries, sit the fuck down and read. or complain that your mindset is crap, and for some reason, you just can’t get yourself to believe in this… your choice.
most people, specifically antis, believe that manifestation is something that began out of nowhere. a tiktok trend, they say. something formed by teenagers who had nothing else to do during quarantine. and yet, those very people fail to see that this is simply wrong.
just because they tried once or twice in 2020 doesn’t erase the history they refuse to acknowledge.
for centuries, people have believed that mind and spirit can shape reality.
anthropologists note that magic and manifesting were not considered “primitive” by all; quote, “even reasonable, lucid, and intellectually sophisticated people, including great philosophers and artists of the past, dabbled in magic”.
the idea that consciousness can alter the world / your reality or travel beyond it is ancient.
one scientist summarizes, “the idea that humans can leave their bodies during dream states is ancient. countless people, from new agers to shamans around the world, believe that it is possible to commune with cosmic intelligence.”
nearly every society has had rituals or teachings for realizing desires or journeying to other realms whether through prayer, spell, trance, meditation, or other techniques.
so, enough with the stalling. let’s begin with our history lesson! take notes, pens in hand.
puts on serious glasses…
animism and shamanic traditions.
in many indigenous cultures, the shaman or medicine person was the spiritual specialist.
they would enter trances or dreams to negotiate with spirits, heal the sick, or control nature. our prime example is “american indian and first nations” traditions, which include the “vision quest” and the medicine man, whom is known as a a traditional healer and spiritual leader. ethnographies note that using drumming, shamans could enter trances, combat evil spirits and disease, communicate with ancestors, prevent famine, and control weather (rain dances). by ritual they aimed to manifest desired outcomes: good harvests, healing, luck, etc.
similar roles existed in african, siberian, oceanic, and amazonian tribes. among the waiwai people of the amazon, a shaman (yaskomo) is believed to perform soul-flights: flying to the sky to consult moon spirits, entering caves to ask animal spirits for game, or diving into rivers for help.
in Inuit / arctic belief, a healer (angakkuq) could journey to mythic realms (the north star, the underworld, etc.) to heal the community.
these accounts show that even hunter-gatherers conceived of traveling to their desired worlds and other worlds in visions to achieve practical goals.
ancient egypt and mesopotamia: magic and the afterlife.
now we move towards ancient egypt (c. 3000–1000 BCE), religion was suffused with magical spells for controlling fate.
pharaohs and nobles buried books of the dead—collections of incantations—with the deceased. these texts were meant to manifest a safe afterlife, the spirit (“ka” and “ba”) had to speak the right words to pass trials. one guidebook states that after death “the deceased… travels across the sky before judgement… to progress through the complex challenges in these stages, the dead must speak the right names and spells at the right time and respond with the right answers to the gods’ questions.” egyptians literally carried prayer-scrolls inscribed with spells to make the underworld obedient.
sources are a fragment of an “egyptian book of the dead” (c. 1075–945 BCE). such papyri functioned as “guidebooks for the dead,” containing magical formulas to control reality in the afterlife. the hieroglyphs include prayers to deities like osiris and re, and instructions (for instance, naming the parts of a door before passing it) to ensure safe passage. ancient egyptian religion blended spirituality with practical “manifestation”. reciting or inscribing the correct words, one aimed to bring about life after death. similarly, the mesopotamians kept extensive collections of omens and incantations (e.g. enûma anu enlil) hoping to foresee or shape events.
ancient india: vedas, mantras, and yoga siddhis.
indian traditions are rich in the idea that mind and intention shape destiny. thank them for being the basic foundation of nonduality! vedic texts (1500–500 BCE) already treat thought and word as powerful. the rigveda (c. 1500 BCE) contains hymns implying that one’s destiny is influenced by action and intention. the sanskrit concept sankalpa (resolution or intent) is used in rituals to set a firm purpose.
medieval theologians observe that hindu priests would invoke deities to bring worldly blessings, as one modern scholar notes: “if you want money, think of lakṣmī” (goddess of wealth); “if you want good luck, be sure to participate in ganesh puja”.
these are explicit instructions to manifest prosperity by mental focus and prayer.
moreover, Indian yogic tradition identifies advanced mental powers (siddhis). patanjali’s yoga sutras (c. 400 CE) describe supernormal abilities gained through meditation ranging from telepathy to levitation. they continue to list powers like “becoming manifold, disappearing, walking on water, flying” and perceiving past lives.
commentators (e.g. v. taimni) stress these siddhis have indeed “been exercised by people in practically all ages”. classical Indian texts assert that deep samādhi (meditative absorption) can let one bend nature, effectively manifesting miracles.
in hinduism, beyond the vedas, the upanishads and bhagavad gītā teach that the ultimate reality is pure consciousness and that aligning one’s will with that reality yields results.
saints like sri ramakrishna (1836–1886) and paramahansa yogananda (1893–1952) described yogic feats. yogananda, for instance, claimed to have witnessed his guru, swami pranabananda, perform a miracle via astral projection—a modern testimony that yogic power can transcend space.
buddhism too speaks of psychic faculties (abhinñā) attainable through deep meditation. The pāli canon (buddha’s discourses) lists “six superknowledges,” including mind-reading, past-life recall, and flying. many later buddhist adepts, especially in tibet and japan, were said to master such powers.
stories of milarepa (11th c. tibetan yogi) tell of him flying through the air or calling storms. and in japan, esoteric buddhist monks (shugendō practitioners) believed that austerities on mountains enabled them to control the elements.
chinese taoism and alchemy.
from the han dynasty on, taoist alchemists sought immortality by purifying body and spirit. the cantong qi (4th century) describes refining the “three treasures”, jing, qi, shen, to align the human microcosm with the universe. practitioners ingested elixirs made of refined cinnabar (mercury sulfide) or gold, believing this would grant eternal life. they treated the body as a laboratory: by internal visualization and herbal concoctions, they aimed to transform physical matter and one’s fate. classical taoism distinguishes the philosophical path (daojia) from the popular, magical side (daojiao) focused on these alchemical “life-force” techniques.
in later centuries, chinese qigong masters also demonstrated feats like levitation or mind-over-matter, though often kept secret. modern taoists note that these siddhis were not ends in themselves but byproducts of spiritual discipline.
nevertheless, extremely cool.
ancient greece and rome: hermeticism and magical papyri
In the greco-roman world, philosophical and magical traditions centered on the idea that gods and spirits could be petitioned or harnessed to affect reality.
from about… say, 100 BCE to 400 CE, egypt’s greek magical papyri offered spells and rituals for every purpose. love, wealth, healing, protection, you name it. a quote from a historian, “these papyri were used by magicians, priests, [and] mystics for the direct purpose of influencing reality, and therefore manifesting”.
the orphic and hermetic writings contained invocations; each orphic hymn ends with an appeal meant to draw down divine power, akin to a prayer of manifestation.
devotees would even bury lead tablets inscribed with wishes, a technique mirroring today’s vision boards or scripting, to bring their desires to life.
mediterranean philosophy also flirted with these ideas. ouuuu!!!
neoplatonism (3rd–5th centuries CE) taught that “the one” or “the good” could be called upon through ritual, thus “working with the gods and goddesses”. whether zeus, asclepius or hermes, was seen as a form of manifesting reality by aligning with higher powers. some emperors and elites even employed personal “incantation masters.”
in rome, pliny the elder (1st century CE) records magical cures and spells. more concretely, people paid vendors for love potions or curses in the colosseum.
christianity and medieval europe.
believe it or not, medieval christian tradition also contains many accounts of miracles and mystical powers.
saints and holy people were routinely attributed abilities that defy physical laws, my favorite example being st. joseph of cupertino (1603–1663), a simple italian franciscan friar became famous for levitating during prayer. reports say joseph would “rise and float” during mass so dramatically that crowds claimed he was “the man who could fly.” he was eventually canonized as a saint, and even today is venerated as the patron of astronauts and aviation for this very reason.
other medieval miracles include bilocation (being seen in two places at once.. sound familiar?), prophecy or instant healing at shrines. the kabbalistic tradition (judaism) and the christian hermetic / neoplatonic currents also taught that pure thought and prayer could influence reality.
renaissance occultists like paracelsus (1493–1541) invoked astrological and angelic forces in medicine and alchemy.
giordano bruno (1548–1600) famously claimed a living universe in which mind and matter interpenetrate. john dee (1527–1608), advisor to queen elizabeth I, spent years in occult study and “angel magic,” believing he could make contact with higher intelligences.
renaissance to modern occult and new thought.
the 16th–19th centuries saw a renewed focus on the mind’s power in the west as renaissance magicians like cornelius agrippa (1486–1535) wrote grimoires and spellbooks and revived hermetic ideas.
the protestant mystics (jacob boehme, etc.) and rosicrucians spoke of an inner christ consciousness capable of miracles, which was the same idea neville goddard had.
concurrent with occultism was the new thought movement (late 1800s USA), i have an entire post on this! but in short, this directly anticipated today’s “law of attraction”.
20th century, spiritualism and self help extended these ideas. famous mind-power teachers (napoleon hill, norman vincent peale, now rhonda byrne’s “the secret”) popularized the notion that thinking certain thoughts or feeling certain ways will attract matching outcomes.
today, manifesting is mainstream in some circles.
the secret (2006) sold over 30 million copies and celebrities like oprah winfrey have endorsed it.
searches for “manifesting” exploded by 600% during the 2020 pandemic. which is where the argument that this, something that was once esoteric is now often packaged as “false”.
though the history i gave isn’t quite similar to current manifestation, or may not align with what you believe—realize it is all the same.
people have belief in something —> they experience it.
that’s it.
class dismissed!
this made me believe in shifting a long time ago when i was still doubting
how you got your powers
১ your childhood imaginary friend was actually a lonely deity, and they blessed you with powers because you never forgot them
১ you were a victim of a localized reality glitch; your body plugged the leak in space, which is now anchored inside of you wherever you go
১ you made a binding vow as a child that you then promptly forgot. the contract activated and gave you access to powers.
১ you won a previously unbeatable combat/heavenly trial and now you carry the combined power of the others who failed before you.
১ you were clinically dead for four minutes. you came back from the other side unharmed but not completely human
১ you were chosen as a vessel for an ancient entity, but your soul was so dominant that you accidentally assimilated them and their powers into yourself
১ you came across a forgotten forest while exploring as a child and drank from a well that wasn't meant to be drunk from
১ your parent chose to give you their own powers upon retirement
১ you were born with a natural deficiency in your soul, it doesn't hold boundaries allowing you to influence everything around you
১ you inherited a debt where the universe demands that you must posses an immensely terrifying power to repay an act a great ancestor committed against reality.
১ you caught a falling star in the sky still too hot to the touch and the cosmic rays instantly rewrote the wiring in your energy centers
১ you fell asleep in a forest and woke up with a spare shadow that obeys your will.
১ you survived a ritual gone wrong and ended up absorbing the energy meant to feed a god
১ you received a curse that was not intended for you. as a defense mechanism your body has inversed the effect, and it turned into a sacred blessing
১ you traded your emotions/soul/something precious for powers
১ you solved an impossible puzzle that turned out to be the physical lock to a sealed form of ancient magic
১ you're a cosmic being, you annoyed your sibling too much and got cursed to live a millennia as a human with powers you despise

THATS GREAT ANON ❤️
Moved away to another country alone at 15, changed my whole face, got my dream body, changed my bone structure, changed my height and weight. I get money out of nowhere. Got my dream house for almost free (Tuscan house) get spoiled daily, got my dream bf. Have a luxury life, live in my dream city. Changed everything about my appearance (teeth, height, weight, hair, face, side profile, nose, jawline, paler skin, long legs) eat and never gain weight. Don’t have a job. Have amazing friends. Got pretty privilege, much clothes I’ve dreamed of, get spoiled by random people, always getting paid for. And much more, just because I affirmed and pressist.
Sometimes, you don’t even need repetition!
SUCCESS STORY!!
I entered a raffle at my local elementary school today. The prizes were a Ps5, a 65” TV, and an electric scooter. Now I didn’t want that damn scooter, but I wanted the TV the most. I have a tv but this one is huge. So I put in 20ish tickets and barely thought of it until the drive home. I thought to myself once or twice “wow I can’t believe I’m won the tv, I love my new tv etc.”
20 mins later I’m in the shower and I get the call that I won the TV! It’s in my backseat right now as I’m driving home. It’s really that simple yall! I also found out I got a callback for the lead in my schools musical, so maybe the happiness I was feeling helped manifest it.
KEEP GOING BADDIES!!
LIFE ON EASY MODE
(results+proof)
SO. it’s only February, only a month since i started to lock the fuck in. and here are my current results
1.money: for context my family is already rich but they are really fucking stingy and controlling so we get no allowance and have to practically beg for spending money
BUT i've been listening to a few subliminals and affirming for money offhandedly
and: my grandfather at the very start of January (only days into affirming) gave me money for clothes then i was able to take some out on my own, and now just yesterday my mother gave us a big allowance after saying no for months , and, i was able to link my upi to my bank account that has a good amount of money but its under my family’s control so i had no access to it, im not sure if i should use it yet but i have access to it now
photo proof:
(yes i keep my cash in an m&m box)
and this is what was on my vision board btw
2. FACE: i've been listening to subliminals a bit and affirming , and i can literally see myself get prettier and prettier every day and other people have been complimenting me even more often than before
3.LOVE LIFE: i listened to these subliminals once or twice maybe last month and since then three guys have shown interest in me, and i keep seeing my crush every day even though its a huge college
4. general luck: no affirmations. just general assumption, i didnt finish my practical for a class and i was already late on it but the teacher just straight up didnt show up, any money i spend has been coming back to me, and i keep finding cute shit to buy, also SO many angel numbers
SUBLIMINALS USED
HOW IT FEELS TO SHIFT AWAKE
(coming from a procrastinator that often gets bored during attempts and STILL shifts anyway)
HI SHIFTBLR! I'm back with a big post.
So, I've been on tiktok lately and i've been seeing a lot a lot a LOT of people talking about how to awake shift and it really inspired me to speak on my experience because i don't really see that many people share their awake shifting experiences in detail.
Just for context, I use my own method to awake shift. It's fairly easy. All it takes is patience and some free time, that's all.
There's this girl on tiktok named Kas who PERFECTLY encapsulated my METHOD in a video but in way better words. She defined shifting as DISCONNECTION, IDENTIFICATION, AND RECONNECTION! That is exactly it! Most people get stuck on Disconnection and give up. I often get really bored before this part but trust me that's just your ego trying to stop you! Don't ever listen! You could live your dream life rn babes why would you quit?!?
So, THIS IS HOW IT FEELS TO SHIFT WHILE AWAKE:
I meditate by breathing in like 2-5 times, sometimes i do it for longer but i find that if i do it for too long, i end up falling asleep. This step is important but it shouldn't be overdone because your body isn't even needed to shift.
i immediately start on DISCONNECTION. I tell myself "I am disconnected from my current reality. I am not this body / vessel" until i start to feel a little floaty.
After feeling floaty, i'm still feeling connected to my CR but i kinda ignore it and just skip straight to connecting to my DR SELF via identity affirmations.
Usually at this point i start to visualize where i'll wake up and sometimes i get so deep in it that i dont even have to do CONNECTION because i'll start hearing stuff from my DR or feeling stuff. Like if i'm petting my cat, i'll subtly feel her fur but like in my CR if that makes sense?? It's like i can FEEL it as my DR self but my CR self is feeling the sensations. I actually hate this because it feels like a game of cat n fucking mouse. Like whats the point of that "phantom" ass feeling? Just shift and feel it for real lmaoo!!
I'm going to try to explain this as best i can: When I shift while awake, it's lik the reality fades in. Like, I'm in my CR doing affs, and then all of a sudden i'm in my DR. . . there is no distinction of travel between the two. i'm just here one moment and then the next im in my DR. I can never predict the exact moment because it just happens and im not even really paying attention when it does. I just notice that i'm there, yk?
lately i've been getting bored after the feelings stop, so i just kinda give up :/ but i still hear stuff from my DR so i count that as a partial shift, aka shifting regardless!!!
thank ya for reading and prepare to hear me talk about this again as i continue to shift later today :) feel free to hit my ask box with questions!!!!!
it truly is this simple guys!

Void state update
————🌸————
First of all long time no see, I hope everyone is doing okay.
So since the beginning of June I decided that I’ll do whatever it takes to enter the void state and be aware in the void state to manifest before August. I still have passive void state where im in the void but will only realize I was once im out of it.
I did an attempt this morning with Yoga nidra and I was so close to enter the void aware like I was literally in a rainbow spiral portal and my heart was pounding so fast just like my head but I got too excited because in my head I was done, I was about manifest my dreams. I missed this attempt but I’m getting closer and closer of the goal and it’s only June 7th, I started on June 1st literally.
Also off topic but not that off topic, is there on Tumblr any other African girlies or guys trying to enter the void or being shifters I kinda feel like im the only African girl sometimes but I’m sure im not alone.
That being said have good day or night. We got this🌸.
꧁•⊹٭I shifted٭⊹•꧂
It’s been about a week since this happened, but I suck really bad at posting so I’m only writing it now😭.
That morning, I woke up, wandered around for a few minutes, and then went back to lay down. For the past few days before that, I had been meditating, trying out different methods and affirmations. While meditating, especially when I was slightly tired but relaxed, I kept affirming that shifting could happen easily, even as I slept. I made sure to not just affirm robotically, but to FEEL like what I’m saying is possible.
So that morning, I laid down, played a subliminal that I often listen to (which I’ll link at the end of the post), and just let myself relax. I focused on simply being in the shift. I remember paying attention to my sense of touch, telling myself that the sheets I felt weren’t my usual ones but they were sheets from a bed in another reality. I visualized myself melting into the bed (morbid I know) and begun to feel like I was fading away…
Next thing I know, I opened my eyes to a fancy hotel room. It felt so normal that it took me a second to digest that I was no longer in my cr bedroom. I felt my skin, I saw my reflection in the mirror, same face as usual. I took a long shower, got dressed, and nothing felt off at all. Literally all the usual.
I left the hotel room and went downstairs. That’s when things changed. The downstairs area was like a party—lights, music, people chatting and dancing with each other. I tried to enjoy myself, eating and drinking with the other people around. I’m not sure if I was just overwhelmed by the lights, drinking, and forcing myself to talk to other people so soon, but I gradually felt like I was losing control of the experience. Eventually, I shifted back.
I’d say I was only there for a few hours, maybe 3-4??? Overall, it was a pretty good experience after not attempting to shift for months.
Here’s the subliminal:
enough is enough. i started to lock-in with shifting have you?
Hey everyone, it's been a while since I've updated here. Life has been hectic.
As some of you already know, I have a bit of experience with lucid dreams and altered states of awareness like hypnagogia and sleep paralysis. I've had sleep paralysis since I was a child, hypnagogia started when I was a teenager, and I started having lucid dreams around the same time.
I've been trying to enter the void through all of the above states. I've entered three times through hypnagogia and one time when I randomly woke up in the void. I haven't consciously manifested in the void yet, but I know I will soon.
I've done a lot of research and tried many different things to see how to work with these states. A lot of us can access these states naturally or with techniques, but we just can't figure out how to use them consistently. There isn't much information about this, so we're all experimenting and trying to figure out what works for us individually. Here's some things I've learned:
1. There seem to be different types of lucid dreams. This isn't anything scientific, just something I've noticed from my own experiences.
The first type is what I call a light lucid dream. These are the kinds of lucid dreams where you suddenly realize you're dreaming, but they don't last very long. Most of the time, I either wake up shortly after becoming lucid or lose lucidity almost immediately. They're still useful because you can practice dream control, reality checks, and get used to being aware inside a dream, but I've personally found them pretty useless for entering the void lol. By the time I realize I'm dreaming, I'm usually moments away from waking up.
The second type is what I call a deep lucid dream. These are much rarer for me, but they're completely different. They're usually much more vivid and realistic, and I can stay aware for much longer without waking up. It's also common for me to have multiple lucid dreams back to back and experience false awakenings. These are the types of lucid dreams that I think are ideal for shifting or entering the void because they give you much more time to work with and you won't wake up easily.
2. While it's easier to enter the void through a lucid dream, dreams are still projections of your subconscious mind. What happens in them tends to follow your beliefs and expectations. Your mind is incredibly powerful, and lucid dreams make that very obvious. I've read a lot of people's experiences over the years, and many of them struggle with things they believe are difficult or impossible. You've probably heard things like "don't tell dream characters you're dreaming," "don't look in mirrors," or "don't look at clocks." The interesting thing is that the people who believe something bad will happen often experience exactly that, while people who don't believe those things or have never heard those rules usually have no issues at all. To me, that shows how much expectations shape the experience. The most important thing to remember is that you're the one in control. So if you think entering the void is hard, you'll experience the same thing in a lucid dream.
3. If you're trying to enter the void through a lucid dream, I've found that deep lucid dreams are ideal. Light lucid dreams are fun, but I haven't had much success using them for that purpose. They're great for having fun, practicing dream control, building confidence, and even manifesting more lucid dreams, but if your goal is the void, the deeper dreams seem much more useful.
4. I've learned a lot about entering the void through hypnagogia. Until recently, I would either get carried away by the hypnagogia itself or immediately start affirming and visualizing, but nothing would happen. From my last successful void experience, I realized something important. To enter the void through hypnagogia, you can either simply observe it and allow it to take you wherever it's going naturally, or you can wait until it becomes very deep before affirming for the void or manifesting. The times I've entered, I became so absorbed in watching the hypnagogia that I completely forgot what I was trying to do. The moment I forgot about the void was the moment I entered it. The key, at least for me, is allowing the hypnagogia to take over rather than forcing anything.
5. I started meditating more often with the intention of observing rather than trying to enter the void. For me, if I close my eyes and relax, hypnagogia starts within a few minutes almost every single time. Because of that, I always assumed hypnagogia was the final stage before sleep. Then one night I decided to listen to some calm music so I wouldn't drift off completely. That's when I discovered that there's something beyond hypnagogia.
Usually, when hypnagogia becomes very deep, I either fall asleep or lose awareness. But because I was listening to music that night, when the hypnagogia suddenly ended, I snapped back into awareness instead of falling asleep. What happened next is difficult to describe. It felt like I was looking into space itself. I could literally see it as though there was a screen behind my closed eyes. My body felt strange, fuzzy, and distant. After today, I realized that this is the part where you manifest with hypnagogia.
It doesn't matter if you're doubting and you don't have to feel anything. It will happen.
After that experience, life got busy and I had to take a break from experimenting.
That brings me to this morning.
I woke up around 5 a.m. and stayed awake until about 7 a.m. I put on some calm music and the same thing happened. This time I affirmed I would have a lucid dream. When I eventually turned the music off and tried to sleep, I noticed my body starting to feel fuzzy.
Then I felt vibrations, which immediately told me sleep paralysis was probably coming. I moved into a more comfortable position because one of the worst things in the world is being stuck in sleep paralysis while uncomfortable lol.
So there I was in sleep paralysis. I tried lifting my head because people use that to induce lucid dreams or astral projection. I've never had an astral projection before, which is weird because a lot of people who experience sleep paralysis seem to have them quite easily. Anyway, nothing was happening, so I eventually gave up.
A little while later, I found myself in a very strange state. It wasn't the void because it wasn't empty in the way the void is. At first I was aware of my body and the fact that I was lying in bed, and then somehow I wasn't. I don't remember every detail, but I remember being completely conscious. Not dream conscious. Fully conscious, the same way I am right now while writing this. I remember wondering what was happening. It felt like I was in my room, but things weren't exactly the same as they are in waking life. My vision was foggy, yet I somehow knew I wasn't fully awake.
The weirdest part was how real everything felt. I could feel the floor perfectly. I could feel textures and sensations as clearly as I do in waking life. I even remember thinking, "I hope I'm not actually on the floor in real life."
I just realized while writing this that maybe had an out-of-body experience.
I honestly don't know.
Everything felt completely real. In my lucid dreams, even when they're vivid, they still have a dream-like quality to them. My decision making isn't exactly the same as when I'm awake, and sometimes when I wake up, I wonder what the hell I was thinking. This felt different. I felt fully conscious and aware.
For those of you who have experience with astral projection and obe, is this what it's like?
Anyway, I was just lying there, wondering what was happening, and eventually I decided I wanted to have a lucid dream. Not long after that, I ended up in one.
I'm still experimenting and trying to figure all of this out. Hopefully some of what I've learned helps someone else who's exploring these states too.
Good luck!
