If you get the job, endeavor to stay on the beat for at least five years. The first two you won’t know what you are doing, the last three, you’ll be ready to do some business.

Still Life of Desk (is it Friday?)
Love this ad from the Guardian. Very cool, very 21st century news. Now lets just hope it helps them hit on a viable 21st century revenue model.

"Pressure from the Russians, the 'fair-haired race' of the prophecies and the sole Orthodox power in the world, held a special resonance in the Greek lands. The great war of 1768-74 between Russian and the Ottoman Empire aroused particular excitement, for a prophesy attributed to the Byzantine emperor Leo the Wise foretold the driving out of the Turks from the 'City' of Constantinople 320 years after its capture, i.e. in 1773."

Greek History
I am currently reading Richard Clogg's Concise History of Greece to brush up on the country's past. As I do so I will post interesting quotes from the book and elsewhere, and also relevant multi-media where available.
Coming up shortly, an interesting quote from the book on how Greeks viewed Russia, their most powerful co-religionist nation, in the 18th century. To this day you often find Greeks who think Russia wants to bail the country out in its current crisis because of cultural ties, but is being prevented from doing so by the troika.

RVP doesn't have the electrifying pace of Henry, or the brute strength of Shearer. He is a pure footballer.

For the shoe leather journalists
As good a choice as any for first post - Paul Lewis looks at how social media has impacted journalism. Has a personal connection as I was one of the witnesses in the Ian Tomlinson investigation discussed.
