Breaking The Stigma of Mental Health!
A lot of people still find it hard to talk about mental health because of the stigma around it. Sometimes, people feel embarrassed or scared to ask for help, even when they’re struggling. But mental health is just as important as physical health — everyone has ups and downs, and that’s okay!
But what is the stigma? And why does it make it harder for those who are struggling to reach out?
Let's talk about it
What is stigma around mental illness? First, a stigma is a negative label/stereotype to people who are usually looked down on, misunderstood, and treated differently due to certain traits/experiments/conditions. How is this applied to mental health? In the stigma surrounding mental health, many people assume and judge those who struggle with mental health issues due to stereotypes and experiences that could have painted mental health in a negative light. This causes those who need help to feel ashamed, embarrassed, and afraid to talk about their struggles because of this stigma! Often avoid getting help due to the views of being seen as "weak" or "dramatic"
Most importantly... Why is breaking the stigma important?
It’s time to stop keeping mental health discussions under wraps. Everyone faces challenges, and that’s perfectly okay — yet many remain silent for fear of judgment. Speaking out about mental health reminds us that we’re not alone and that seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness. It really takes bravery to open up. By sharing our experiences, we pave the way for others to do the same, gradually dismantling the stigma one conversation at a time. You're not alone <3 Resources:
