 1880s, beginning of film as a medium (several minutes of action captured on film, no sound, just black and white)
 1920s sound became synchronised with image
1930s colour films outgrew black and white ones
 By 1930s, silent films virtually over as a medium (not completely – of course there are still some now!)
 Some see 1956 as the first music video when - Tony Bennett – Stranger In Paradise – Serpentine gallery in Hyde Park London – first mix of video and song where footage of him walking was played alongside his song
 1957 – Elvis Presley – Jailhouse Rock – sent all around the world
The Beatles - Hard Days Night – feature film
 Late 1970s Top of The Pops starts on BBC – performances / music videos of the songs released that week. Countdown of the charts.
 1975 promo video – Queen’s - Bohemian Rhapsody – probably the first real ‘music video’ as we know it.
