Introducing Team Attracts!

This is Team Attracts! We’re all from Universitas Gadjah Mada, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Let us introduce ourselves one by one.

This is our leader! Muchammad Ilham Maulana. Simply call him Ilham. He’s taking undergraduate program at Departement of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering.

Irfan Dwiki Bhaswara is our engineer in our team. Usually we call him Irfan. He’s also taking undergraduate program at Departement of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering.

Verly Fazlurrahman. Simply call him Verly. He’s also our engineer. He’s taking undergraduate program at Departement of Electrical Engineering , Faculty of Engineering. 

Septiana Rizki Fauziyah. We call her Kiki. She’s our researcher. She’s taking undergraduate program at Faculty of Medicine.

Last but not least, Sharfina Kumala Dewi Yusuf. Simply call her Afin. She’s our manager. She’s taking undergraduate program at Faculty of Psychology.

So this is it! Let’s meet Attracts!

Attracts is the first open source medical watch powered by Teensy. It has small size and (of course) safe to be used because we make the case with the 3D printing. Attracts is designed to prevent the carpal tunnel syndrome. Besides, it also can be used by the patient of carpal tunnel syndrome to exercise their wrist.

In the other hand, Attracts has another interesting features. One of them is bluetooth connection. So, you can connect Attracts to your devices, and use it as a mouse. You can also use Attracts to move your slides of presentation only with your hand gesture. Remember the Snake game? You can also play this game in your Attracts! Isn’t it fun?

What is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?

Have you ever felt numbness, tingling, and pain in your wrist and palm? Be careful! You might have the carpal tunnel syndrome!

Do you know about capral tunnel syndrome? Or have you ever heard about the carpal tunnel syndrome? Let us tell you more about the carpal tunnel syndrome.

In the past last years, there are a lot people have this kind of disorder. Carpal tunnel syndrome is a common disorder that affects your nerves in the wrist. This disorder makes your nervus medianus compressed when the nerve passes through the tunnel in your wrist (called carpal tunnel, that’s why this disorder is called carpal tunnel syndrome). Women have narrower carpal tunnel than men, that’s why women have higher risk of this disorder.

There are some factors that may cause the carpal tunnel syndrome. Genetics and environment are two factors that may cause the carpal tunnel syndrome. The other factors are repetitive movements, pregnancy, acromegaly (abnormal growth of hand or feet, caused by overproduction of growth hormone), rheumatoid arthritis (chronic progressive disease causing inflammation in fingers, wrist, feet, and ankles), mucopolysaccharidosis (group of metabolics disorder), and hypothyroidism (thyroid glands can’t make enough thyroid hormone to keep the body running normally).

There are some treatment to help you if you have this disorder. The first treatment is having the Non-Steroid Anti-Inflammatory drugs (NSAID) to decrease the pain in your wirst. You can also have your wrist injected by the hydrocortisone (it is injected to your carpal tunnel in your wirst).

In severe case, doctor may suggests the surgery to release the compressed nerve. There are two kind of surgery. The first one is a conventional open release surgery (doctor makes an incision up to 2 inches to cut the ligament and enlarge the carpal tunnel). The second one is and endoscopic surgery (doctor uses a thin, flexible tube with camera attached to helps doctor perform surgery without making a long incision).
