Okay okay - admittedly 2016 has been a bit of a dumpster fire. But it hasn't all been bad. One of the best parts about blogging and doing the whole "internet as a job" thing is the opportunities I get to meet rad as hell badass queer women from all around the world. So this year I decided to spread the love with the first annual Lesbian Travel Blog Awards. Check out the link for this year's batch of LesBiQueer travel and adventure bloggers from around the world. I’m a LGBT travel blogger. When I meet new people they usually ask me about my job. I get it - it’s unusual and literally anyone could start a blog. Yes, even you. There are several questions folks ask me but two questions always pop up, first “Is it safe for a queer woman to travel alone?” and second “Where’s your favorite place you’ve ever been?” To answer the first, yes - it’s safe… well - it’s no more dangerous than existing as a queer white woman in my hometown. But the second question - that’s a tough one. I’ve fallen in love with so many places that it’s impossible to rank them. Every time I find a new love it gets a spot on this mental list that I keep whenever someone asks me. Banos, Ecuador has earned its place on this list - it’s tucked neatly somewhere between Chiang Mai and El Nido. It’s also on the short list of places I’d like to convince Lindsay Cale to move to somewhere in the distant future. I loved the slowness of the town. The gorgeous haze that hung on over the mountains. In Banos, 300 foot waterfalls are around every corner and a three course lunch is less than $2. It’s one of those places I struggle to put into words. It’s more than just the physical location and the people of Banos that made it memorable to me- it was how it made me feel. In Banos I was able to jump backwards off a 250 foot tall waterfall, hike the Amazon, and have daily massages. It made me feel so powerful. In Banos, I believed that our love was invincible and I had the ability to do anything. That’s why I travel. That’s the feeling I chase. & there are so many places that I have given me that high. Banos is my most recent favorite. I wrote a guide (with some unseen photos) for anyone who’d like to visit. Young girls take a lot of flak for being ‘tumblr feminists’ but I actually think it is fucking incredible that there is a social media outlet that teaches girls about sexism and misogyny and how to spot abuse and how to recognize discrimination and oppression. The only people screaming ‘tumblr feminists’ at teenaged girls are the ones who are afraid of those girls knowing their rights, respecting themselves and not putting up with sexist bullshit. I didn’t learn how to spot this shit until my twenties. Of course the sexists are terrified of an army of girls growing up knowing how they are being wronged and demanding better.

Pride Month is kicking off THIS WEEKEND. I recently moved to Washington DC and I'm pumped to get things started with @kate_ross_ and @thecovendc on Friday night. I'm going to be making my rounds to a few Prides this year but I'm dramatically shaving my number down from the last few years. I did 13 Prides last year, and trust me, 😱 you can have too much of a good thing. I'm already confirmed for 3 (NYC, DC, Columbus) which Prides should I add to my list? Let me know in the comments.
