The ballots have gone out to our active Theatre Members for BOTH the Annual Awards Celebration AND new Board of Trustees Members! And we need you to cast your votes NOW!
The 2020 Season has FOUR Seats that need to be filled on the Board and there are FIVE very worthy individuals looking for your vote! Please read their biographies and check off who you want to see chaperone the next twelve months of productions!
2019 was a FANTASTIC YEAR for shows at the MAT! Comedies, dramas, musical reviews, family fare - this past season had it ALL! So we need YOU to tell us who the Best of the Best were! Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Set Design, Best Lighting Design, Best Costumes, Best Asst. Director/Stage Manager, Best Director, and of course, Best Show! This year, because we had so many kids in productions, we have included special categories, just for the children - Best Young Actor and Best Young Actress! Be sure to vote for your picks, then mail us back your forms in the envelope we provided. But be quick! The Awards Celebration is Saturday, January 25th! We need those votes NOW!

Brennan Jones (Sir Robert Chiltern) is a graduate of Texas A&M University-Commerce, where he holds a Master of Science in Theatre with an emphasis in Acting & Directing, and is currently teaching Theater for the Prosper ISD. He directed The University Playhouse’s production of GRUESOME PLAYGROUND INJURIES by Rajiv Joseph and is a 2016 KC/ACTF Irene Ryan nominee. During his time at TAMUC, he was a member of Cricket City Improv, performing in the 2014 College Improv Tournament and serving in numerous leadership positions – including the Director of the troupe. He has taught both short and long form improvisation and will be sharing his love for the art form this summer with Lion Theatre Campers! Brennan is excited to be part of An Ideal Husband and to work with a wonderful and talented cast and crew. “My short time here has been nothing short of exciting and fulfilling.”

James Mychael (Lord Goring) makes his debut to the Mesquite Arts Theatre stage with “An Ideal Husband,” playing the witty and charming Lord Goring. He enjoys all aspects of acting for the stage and screen, and looks forward to continuing to provide audiences with memorable performances. He performed with the Henderson County Performing Arts Center last season, receiving Best Actor nominations for both performances of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” as Theseus and “The Odd Couple” as Felix Ungar, ultimately winning for the latter. When not acting, James likes to create music, watch films and think about acting! He thanks director Stacey Upton for casting him and also to his fellow cast and crew for making the experience so rewarding.

Alexzandria Smith (Lady Chiltern) is returning to the stage after a two-year hiatus. Alexzandria is a recent graduate from the University of Texas at Dallas, where she just received her Master of Public Affairs. Though education and servicing the community are her passion, acting remains dear to her heart. Alex would like to thank God for his amazing grace, peace, and joy. Her friends, family, co-workers and loved ones. Alex is truly grateful for the love and support that she receives every single day and understands that though life may toss a few curve balls, still look to the clouds.

Teighlor Brewton (Mrs. Cheveley) is delighted to be returning to the stage for the first time in four years! While she has previously enjoyed performing in shows such as “Break a Leg,” “Prince Caspian,” and “Broken Heart,” her biggest passion lies in working backstage on the production team. Past theater tech credits include “Mary Poppins,” “Chasing Lights,” “Godspell,” “Fiddler on the Roof,” and “Truthical.” She would like to thank her director Stacey for casting her as this fun and challenging character, to her family for always supporting her dreams, and to her GPA community for giving her the guts to do this. David Birge (Lord Caversham) holds a Masters in Dramatic Arts and has done 100+ plus shows in six states and Canada. Included in this number are two movies, two commercials, two seasons of stock and a master class with the Royal Shakespeare Company. This is his seventh show with MAT and first British play. Mavens of MAT may remember him last year from “The Curious Savage” and “Becky’s New Car." He has been married for 35 blessed years to the most wonderful lady God ever created and is the father of the kindest, smartest, and most beautiful college senior ever.

Rudy Pulido (Vicomte de Nanjac/Phipps) is so excited to be on stage for the first time since 1998-2000 when “I started out doing a few plays at high school. I enjoyed performing in front of an audience and being myself and have a good time. Just making an audience laugh makes me feel good. I’d like to thank Stacey for giving me chance to perform again, having fun, working together with a theatre family. This show is the most exciting acting work I have done so far.”

Judith Anderson (Lady Markby): Lady Markby is Judith’s second Oscar Wilde role, as she played Guendolyn is “The Importance of Being Earnest” in her very first theatrical role. She has appeared in many community theatre productions including The Hip Pocket Sandwich Theatre, Gemini Theatres, and toured in Southern France wtih a musical-theatrical group called Genesis. She has studied voice, piano, guitar, songwriting, dance, and graduated fro the University of North Texas with degrees in Music and Counseling. She is now involved with the film and TV industries through her talent agency, Linda McAlister Talent. She continues to perform her original one-woman show, “Judithann’s Gutsy Broads,” which is comprised of stories and original songs of real-life characters from Texas History. Happy to be making her first appearance with the Mesquite Arts Theatre, she gives a special note of gratitude for the direction and support of Stacey Upton, and the wonderful cast and crew who have made this a delightful experience.

Jasmin Zamora (Mrs. Marchmont/Mrs. Mason) has a Bachelors of Arts in Theatre from Texas A&M University-Commerce. She is currently the Director of Theatre at McDonald Middle School with Mesquite Independent School District. Diana Benevides (Lady Basildon/Mrs. James) is looking forward to continuing work with Stacey Upton to polish her acting skills. Her training began last year with an improv class, which was like opening a door to a new world of wonders. Her journey through the arts started with drawing, then blossoming to other skills like painting and sculpting. Acting has been a new way to express herself in the arts and delivering a delightful performance.
