As I wiped down the kitchen counter, I almost felt sorry for the blonde bombshell he told this to. I couldn't help but adjust my body to get a closer look at the fighting couple. "Why won't you give me a chance?" She cried through her tears as her makeup smeared. The man only shrugged. As she left his home, most likely for good, I wanted to know if the man would let me keep her jacket that she forgot.

His perspective.
He remembered how it happened.
His friend invited him to some unimportant event, one that he had been excited about at the time. She didn’t want to go because she preferred quiet nights at home folding those little paper cranes.
So, he went alone, promising not to stay too long. Not the first mistake he made that night. He continued making little, simple mistakes. He had his third beer and another and another...
He proved to be the life of the party making sure to catch the attention of every hot girl in that room. So, when the blonde approached him, “desperate” to know the meaning of the knife tattoo on his neck, he was more than happy to put on a show.
He didn’t expect the blonde to start kissing him. He didn’t expect to kiss her back. He never expected to open his eyes and see his beautiful, brunette angel standing next to his best friend. The two of them wore disappointment on their faces all too well, having seen what he had done.
And just like that, he destroyed the life he had dreamt about creating all the months he had been with her.
Sitting at her desk that day...
She replayed the day that was the last day with him.
“Everything was too perfect.” She told him. “I should have known better. I should have known you would find a woman much better than me.”
He looked away; maybe to hide the tears, maybe to ignore her altogether.
The silence was deafening until he nodded. “Alright then.”
And so, he walked out her door without even a goodbye to get her through.
“You are the angel watching over me.”
She replayed his words...the words he recited like a prayer.
She missed him and it was breaking her heart.
The dangers of being her daughter...
She grew up with a narcissistic mother and had never known it until that morning. All of a sudden, mistakes made and opportunities not taken were all the side effects of being the daughter of a mentally ill woman.

I was sorry that I chose to end things. I was just so scared. He didn’t fight me on my decision to break up. Although, I wish he had.

She thought everything was working out. She thought she had finally found the path God wanted her on. She was wrong.

He fingered the red thread wrapped around my ankle wanting to know who it was connected to. I smiled because I knew the answer he wanted. I was so rarely given moments to be the coy one, I wanted to enjoy his longing for me.

As she sat at the end of his bed, stretching and breathing out the worries of the world. He cursed God from keeping her away from him this long. He had been waiting for her all his life.
She was surprised to hear the doorbell ring. Her one and only love had sent her sunflowers, her favorite in all the world.
She traced the outline of his tattoo, all while telling him the sweet things he longed to hear.
