Welp, huge promotion at work. I haven’t done the whole “manage a group of people” thing in quite some time. When your work history revolves mostly around small-mid size corporations, chances to to be put in a leadership role can be tough to come by, especially if you’re going the work your way from within as opposed to looking elsewhere for promotions. 

Over the year’s i’ve worked with different managers, some who i’ve thought were great, some I thought were horrible, and some I thought were just there to collect a paycheck. The main thing I learned thru observation is that the best managers were the one’s who approached it from a social science perspective, meaning they didn’t have to be the foremost experts in their fields, but they knew how to handle a myriad of personalities to get whatever objective done.

Like any Accounting grad, I took my share of management classes as an undergrad, and have some leadership experience while on the job (some official, some by way of self anointing), but after doing some research really feel these are the books to help me out going forward.

From the incredible architecture and matching art collection, The Broad has deservedly become one of the hottest spots in LA. And when one of the world’s most renowned singers features it in a performance? It takes getting a ticket to another level.
