Hello, I'm really curious about weird historical internet events. If it's okay to ask, what was your experience at Dashcon like?

It was in a suburb of Chicago by where I live. Me and a friend went after seeing the news pour in about the con almost getting shut down because they didn't have the money. I didn't pay for a badge. Basically went to do a little trolling and people watch and see how bad things were and take photos. It was so empty for a con. The convention center they booked was WAY too big for the number of people who went.

I was there for maybe 2-3 hours tops but that was all you needed to see everything because there literally wasn't anything except the ball pit, the bounce castle, and whatever panels were happening. The game room was literally one TV with a game console set up (I think it was a Wii and people were playing Smash).

I remember the line for the Welcome to Nightvale panel (that you had to pay to go to) and learned later that the Welcome to Nightvale people never even planned on going. There were a few cosplayers, mostly Homestucks.

The rumors that someone peed in the ball pit were greatly exaggerated btw.

It was really kind of uncanny.

I think I used a few of them! Everyone kept telling me about the “welcome friends” written on the floor in tape and I was so excited when I finally found your photo of it. Like yes. The legends were true.
