𝐈𝐓'𝐒 𝐍𝐎𝐓 𝐋𝐎𝐍𝐆 𝐏𝐀𝐒𝐓 𝐌𝐈𝐃𝐍𝐈𝐆𝐇𝐓 when viviana knocks on alyssandra’s door. and her lover will open it to find a distressed queen, who looks at her with confused and. . . sad eyes. viviana is quiet as she’s invited inside, and still quiet as the pair take a seat in front of the fire.

a few more minutes pass before she finally speaks. ❛ jase has succumb to the virus he was fighting. ❜ she says before looking up to catch her lover’s eye. ❛ my husband is dead. and. . . ❜

the italian - born french queen shakes her head, taking in a weary breath. ❛ and, come morning, i will have to inform my children that they no longer have a father. and i’ll have to tell vienna --- oh, poor vienna will be heartbroken; she loved him so. ❜ and, she doesn’t say it, but she loved him, too. not in the way vienna had, not in the way she loves alyssandra or luc, but jase was her partner, and, he eventually became her friend. they were a team. together, or not at all.

she wasted so much time hating and resenting him, and what for? what good did it do?

❛ i acted as a foolish child for so many years, willing myself to hate him. he was not a bad man, and, had i let him, he would’ve loved me the way i wanted to be loved. ❜ but, then, she would not have alyssandra and luc. vienna and jase would not have fallen in love and created their beautiful daughter — a niece viviana loves dearly. everything would be different.

but does that mean it would’ve been better? only the gods can answer that, and viviana will drive herself mad if she continues to try to choke it out of them. she must… she must let go.

alyssandra’s fingers gently wove in and out of the queen’s dark hair, eyebrows furrowing as she listened quietly. the fireplace cracked every so often, as if to puncuate each of viviana’s grief filled sentiments. they spent a few moments together in silence before finally, she spoke, “there are many different kinds of love, familial love is just as valuable. look at the beautiful children the two of you have created --” a pause as she pieced together her thoughts, continuing to gently play with the queen’s hair, “and forgive me for being so forward, my queen, but it is not childish to want to have control of your own life. i don’t think you hated jase as much as you hated your uncle. naturally -- he was a vile man.”

aly laid her head back on the couch, eyes closing as she relaxed into the seat, “time is wasted reflecting on the past in such a way. live for him, continue with radiance bright as the morning star so that your children and your niece may remember him through you. most kings who die will be forgotten, let him live on forever in our memories. our history. wouldn’t that be special?”

𝐅𝐎𝐑 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐅𝐈𝐑𝐒𝐓 𝐓𝐈𝐌𝐄 𝐒𝐈𝐍𝐂𝐄 𝐖𝐀𝐊𝐈𝐍𝐆, missing a thousand years of memories, viviana feels like herself again on the back of a horse. though, despite his exquisite beauty, jupiter is no gallant, he’s not so large that she feels like she’s sitting on top of the world while on his back, but she does feel more at home riding him than she does in that big, sparkling castle. but she won’t tell alyssandra that for it’ll only make her feel worse than she already does.

outside the barn, the road breaks into five paths, each leading in a different direction. viviana chooses the middle one, and they continue on straight towards the woods. ❛ tell me something about yourself. something you’d like me to know, or, rather, remember. ❜ viviana smiles at her.

a quiet disposition settled over alyssandra, her shoulders relaxing and even her eyes closing as she thought about what she’d like to share. their lives had been so long and together they had been through so much. oh how it stung, that viviana couldn’t remember any of it. she inhaled through her nose, trying not to let the feeling drown her out of the current moment. she was with her wife! and she would not ruin this moment. amber hues flickered open, darting back to viviana, petaled lips softening into a lovely smile. she’d start things off simply, not wanting to overwhelm the woman she so deeply cherished, “when we met, i thought you were going to hate me.”

𝑺𝑯𝑬 𝑫𝑶𝑬𝑺𝑵'𝑻 𝑯𝑬𝑨𝑹 𝑯𝑰𝑴 𝑬𝑵𝑻𝑬𝑹 𝑻𝑯𝑬 𝑷𝑶𝑶𝑳 𝑯𝑶𝑼𝑺𝑬, doesn’t even notice him until she’s stepping out of the water and he’s right there. and rowan tries to suppress the grin that tugs furiously at her lips. ❛ you know my moms lock the door to this room at night, right? both the doors at the top and bottom of the stairs. ❜ they think it’s to dangerous, like rowan isn’t old enough to swim without a chaperone! ❛ and i definitely locked them behind me when i came in. so, how’d you get in here? did you also bribe the keeper of the keys with black liquorice? ❜ the elfpire laughs at the idea of tsar going anywhere near the giant bird. the poor guy wouldn’t make it out alive. or, if he did, it would be with several less fingers. his name is beast for a reason. but he has a soft spot for rowan, unlike most of her momma’s other pets. the big cat’s adore stella --- even esmeray, who barely tolerates their momma, and every horse in the stables let stella ride them, while she can only ride her mom’s horse, rosa. and sometimes jupiter. but the birds. . . . both giant, terrifying birds melt like kittens into rowan’s hands. her momma told her that beast used to perch on the side of her crib at night, all night, watching over her, and sometimes malvagio would join him. it’s no wonder she grew up to have birds of her own --- who’re all with them in the indoor pool house. ruby and beau sit in the skylights, while gemma’s perched on a barstool. ❛ if you wanted to swim, the outdoor pool is much easier to get to. and there’s less birds. ❜

❛ 𝐘𝐄𝐀𝐇, my momma collects vampires with special abilities like rosalie, who can control nature, and fleur, who’s an empath. so, that means you found one — ionna. she’s tall, blonde, looks like she just stepped of a runway, right? ❜ the complete opposite of the petite, brunette elfpire. tone down the jealousy, rowan, jeeze! ❛ that’s a really cool power. all i can do is manipulate the elements. ❜ oh, if only she could see what her true power will be. rowan the commander, they’ll call her as her power over aura will let her make any and all her puppets. ❛ what else can you do? ❜ she asks, trying to remain calm as she sits in his lap, half naked in her bathing suit.

tsar nearly scoffed at the notion of collecting vampires. he certainly respected viviana, there was no denying that. she was a powerful woman and it was better to work with her than against her, but now that his struggle with his mother -- who had a collection of children at her beck and call -- was at the forefront of his mind, it didn’t exactly sit right with him to hear that. but there was no appropriate comparison. zinnia was.. well. the blood thirsty immortal was superior in every way. attatched to her prowess was a hidden kindness that quickly enveloped elora and tsar in a sunbright warmth, even if it came with several strict rules. one of which was probably to ... not.. entertain the thoughts of sleeping with the blood queen’s eldest daughter.

shaking his head he smiled softly at rowan and shrugged, “manipulating the elements is something to be revered in our culture, though i’m sure queen alyssandra has explained that to you. our connection to the earth is sacred.” something about her psuedo confidence made him not question her choice to sit in his lap, subsequently soaking his thighs - though he was sure if it had been anyone else he would have shoved them off immediately. without much thought to it, his fingers began to twirl small roses at the base of her neck, “i command lightning and on occasion fire. it’s typical of elves to have at least one element in their repertoire. so i’m not surprised you do, miss rowan.”
