Hello! I would like to request a snippet. I hope I'm doing this right. Okay so a snippet for monster hunter stories 2 please: Rider and Kyle being buddies for a little time and walking around together searching monsters. Then the rider pushes Kyle out of the way from a sudden monster's attack Kyle didn’t see coming and the rider is getting hurt instead. Kyle is not understanding why the rider did it since he thought the rider didn’t like him and confronts them about it. Turns out the rider cares more about him than he originally thought. Ah sorry for my English and if its too confusing or too long you can just ignore it. Have a great day/night!
Gotta say, Kyle is a fun character to write! I hope you enjoy the snippet!
This takes place a little bit after the joint fight against the rage-rayed mizutsune.
Kyle trekked through Pomore Garden with his scoutflies out as the sun was beginning to set into the horizon. In a forest like this it was beautiful… and incredibly dangerous. If it wasn’t for the fact that this menace only came out during dusk and night, they wouldn’t even be out in the garden right now.
He kept glancing around for any sign of a major fight or hunt- anything that might indicate the presence of a highly agitated monster. So far, nothing turned up. No scratches on trees, disturbed dirt or leftovers of a meal.
They were probably in the wrong place. Just their luck.
His partner, Altair, wasn’t having much luck either, even with the help of her mizutsune- a native to the area. Kyle could see them in the corner of his eye- the serpent like monster sniffing the air to no avail.
Carding his hand through his hair, he wondered how long it would take to find this one.“Hey, Altair, did you find anything?” He called out.
She smiles, nodded, and gracefully dismounted from her Monstie to make her way over her to him. Altair showed him a tuft of green fur and raised her hand for him take it. The fur was coarse and wiry against his skin.
“Well.” Kyle started, "More likely than not, we’re probably looking at a-“ He cut himself off at the slight alarm worn on Altair’s face. She roughly tackled him and pulled him back before he could ask if she saw something.
The sound of a strong impact against the ground made him look to where he just stood. Kyle pushed Altair away to access the situation and draw his bow.
It was too dark to make out concrete details, but he didn’t need much light to guess what monster then were dealing with. The crimson eyes staring back in the dark told him enough.
“A green nargacuga…” The rider murmured from the side.
Kyle took aim for the eyes and fired while his partner charged forward with her mizutsune. With a battle cry, the green nargacuga aimed to return the favor.
They realized after defeating that green nargacuga, that traveling through the Garden at night might not be the best idea, so they set up camp. It was while they were eating dinner that Kyle thought back to how Altair had pushed him out of the way of that monster. It was a reckless!
He looked across the campfire to see Altair finishing off most of her rations, without a thought in the world.
Setting down his own rations, he asked, “So, I wanted to ask. Why did you push me out of the way from the nargacuta? I- you didn’t need to.” He glanced away for a moment, but Kyle almost regretted looking at her again.
Altair was staring him down and her mizutsune from behind watched him too, reacting to her rider. She sighed with eyebrows raised up as if to ask back ‘really?’ Clearing her throat, she softly explained, “We, we’re friends now, right? We work together and help each other.”
Sputtering, he replied, “Yeah but-! I was cruel to you and Ratha! Surely you’d have resent against me for that…”
“Even if I did,” She said, her expression smoothing into something softer, “I still would have done it. You’ve only done what you thought was right.”
Oh… Kyle pursed his lips and looked into the fire. Maybe he still had much to learn from here on out.
