It was at this point that Persephone noticed the distance Michael had put between them. No, not physical distance, but one more tangible. The girl’s eyebrows furrowed slightly, taking one step away from Michael so that she could actually look at him, her arms crossing over her chest. “You don’t sound very glad.” She pointed out, a weird feeling bubbling up inside of her. The woman was obviously somewhat upset, but she felt nervous, not even sure why. When he apologized, Persephone could only sigh, her gaze moving down to her feet. “Michael, you didn’t have to try to sleep with me because you missed me. Our relationship wasn’t just sex. I-” She chose then to look back up, her gaze apologetic. “I value you. Do you think that’s all I ever wanted from you?” She asked. “It wasn’t.”
Persephone was about to argue further, but his question stopped every word, every thought, every move. It was one that she definitely wasn’t expecting, and one she didn’t know how to answer, or if she even wanted to. Michael meant a lot to her; She would take a bullet for him if she had to. Did she think they could of worked out of they tried before? There was no doubt in her mind about it. They worked out very well in every other way. However, she wasn’t sure how safe it was to cross this line.
The woman took a moment to examine the man, wondering if she should answer. It would have been an injustice to him if she didn’t, though, so she chose to let it out. “Yeah,” She finally spoke after what seemed like ages. “We worked well together. You had my back and I had yours. I did used to think about asking you, but I never got the guts to do it.” She admitted, shrugging then. “It’s a bit too late now, ‘innit?”
You don’t sound very glad. Michael swallowed and tensed up as she had obviously noticed it. He shook his head softly but stopped when she said that he didn’t have to try to have sex with her to show her that he had missed her. “I know that, Persephone. I’m-- That’s not...” He stopped himself and shook his head, not wanting to say anything that could ruin their friendship. Our relationship wasn’t just sex. I value you. Do you think that’s all I ever wanted from you? It wasn’t. He swallowed and narrowed his eyes a little.
“Then, what did you want?” he asked quietly, feeling that familiar tightening in his chest again. The feeling that made him want to throw up. Michael’s mind had wondered, if the two of them would be a good couple, if they had given it a go back in New York. If they had tried things, had it worked out? A million thoughts went through his head and he wished he had a response for all of them. After the question had left his mouth, he stared at her. Yeah. We worked well together. You had my back and I had yours. He swallowed and nodded. I did use to think about asking you, but I never got the guts to do it. It’s a little too late now, ‘innit? “Yeah...” Clearing his throat, he nodded. “It is a little too late.”
