âPeggy, wait! Please wait!â Jerry said, rushing out after her.
Peggy turned on Jerry, her eyes blazing, âWhy should I wait for you? Clearly youâve been hiding things from me. Who was that? Why would she say those things? Iâm not sure I even know you, Jerry!â
âItâs not what you think!â Jerry said, his head in his hand. âYouâve got to believe me, itâs not what you think at all.â
Peggy crossed her arms, unmoved by his pleading.
âValeria and I, yes, we have a history,â Jerry said. âItâs complicated. But we grew up together. Our mothers are friends. It was always just assumed that Valeria and I would, well, you know, get married one day. It was always talked about as a given, from the time we were babies. I wonât hide anything from you, we dated for a while. But it didnât work out. You see what sheâs like! Jealous, mean-spirited â I had no idea she had those aspects to her until we began dating. I guess I brought out the worst in her, maybe she brought out the worst in me. That was why I moved to Bridgeport with my uncle for a while. I needed to get my head right. She wasnât the only reason, but she was part of it. I broke up with her before I left. I guess she didnât take it well. Trust me, thereâs nothing left between us but bad blood and unhappiness, at least on my part. Iâm not so sure about her. But believe me, it is over between us. Over,â Jerry plead.
âI donât know what to believe,â Peggy said. âShe sure still seems to think you have something going on. IâŠI donât want to talk about it right now. Please just take me home.â
Peggy sat in the lobby, tears welling in her eyes. Was it true? Was Jerry a two-timing, no good jerk? She couldnât believe it. He had been so caring, so loving to her during their time together. But on the other hand, he had never even mentioned this âValeriaâ and she sure knew him.
She watched as Jerry spoke to Valeria, his body language apologetic. But when she saw Valeria drape herself on him, Peggy ran out of the lounge, her eyes burning with tears. She couldnât see Jerryâs discomfort. Nor did she see him forcefully rebuff Valeriaâs advance.
âExcuse me?!â said Peggy, getting up from her seat. âWhat exactly are you implying? I donât even know you!â
âOh, you think youâre special. That Jerry treats you well, takes you out to dinner, kisses you lovingly and means it? Well are you in for a rude awakening! Itâs all a façade, all of it. Just you wait and see.!â Valeria retorted.
âI think youâre just a troublemaker and liar!â cried Peggy.
âOh yeah? Well ask your precious boytoy if itâs true. Ask him!â Valeria smoldered.
Peggy turned to Jerry, âWell?â
Jerry looked back at her, his face a mask of guilt.
Turning on her heel, Peggy stormed to the lobby.Â
As the two of them sat, enjoying their oh-so-exotic egg rolls, Peggy saw Jerryâs face crumple into concern and maybe a little fear.
âWhat is it?â asked Peggy.
âUmmmâŠâ Jerry said as a woman in red approached the table.
âHello, Jerry,â the woman said, her eyes flickering to Peggy with a smirk. âItâs been a while.â
âUh, yeah. Hi, Valeria. This is my girl, Peggy,â Jerry said, stuttering slightly.
âNice to meet you,â Valeria said with a dismissive sniff in Peggyâs general direction. She turned her attention fully back to Jerry, perching on the edge of their table, âSo, I had heard you were back in town. Iâm surprised you didnât call me.â
âWell, um, it wasnât really, umâŠâ Jerry trailed off.
âOh Jerry, never change,â Valeria said, getting up. âYou know, youâre just a flavor of the week for him,â she said to Peggy as she walked away.

I love this place! Did you build it yourself?!
Thank you so much! I did build it myself. I'm pretty proud of the interior, but the exterior is...meh, to say the least.
The Tiki Taki Lounge had become one of Peggyâs and Jerryâs favorite rendezvous. It had both a wonderful atmosphere and late hours â perfect for Jerryâs restaurant schedule. Â Sometimes the two of them engaged in riotous dancing, other times the two would sit quietly, just enjoying being near one another.

So. Dang. Cute.
For Peggy, life seemed to fall into a familiar, constant rhythm. Wake up, go to work, come home, eat supper, socialize with Dotty, study work materials, go to bed. To mix things up, she would go out with Jerry when she could. Summer began to turn to fall. Peggy began to feel antsy; why did nothing interesting ever seem to happen?
(Girl, be careful what you wish for...http://dundundun.net/)
See? I'm such a liar. Still making palettes like it's going out of style.
This set is based on yet another paint company's mid-century scheme. This one is from Dunn-Edwards (a new one to me.) This set is supposed to have more of a Southwest feel. I can maybe see it in the first two rows, not so much in the last one. Still, it's pretty.
Once again, I used the brilliant Eames Shell Chair by Pocci to show off the colors in-game.Â
This made me laugh. This is the face Jerry was making as Dotty and Chet shared their first kiss. It's very "Ladies...?"
If you are 20 or older, reblog. I am doing an experiment to see how old everyone on tumblr is.
The tempos became slower as the pianist began to wind down for the night.
âLast song of the night,â the musician said, launching into a romantic sonata.
Dotty and Chet swayed back and forth, flushed with exhaustion in one anotherâs arms. Chet leaned forward and kissed Dotty, tentatively. She pulled back in shock. In a surprise to everyone, including herself, she reached out, grabbed Chet close and kissed him passionately. Nothing like a man who can dance to get a ladyâs blood hot.
I know I said I was going to lay off the palettes for a while. Well, I guess I lied. New set!Â
These are based on historical paint colors by U.K. company Little Greene. They seem a bit brighter, more intense than mid-century colors from U.S. companies. I have to say, I can't decide whether "Buckler" or "Riley" is my favorite from this grouping.
I've broken away from my usual palette example chair - this go 'round I'm using Pocci's Eames Shell Chairs.
Chet kept his word and called Dotty later that week, asking her out on a date to the Tiki Taki Lounge. He also offered to make it a double date with Peggy and Jerry if that would make things more comfortable. Dotty said she would ask them, and when they agreed that it would be a fun idea, a double date it was.
The Tiki Taki Lounge was an extravagant club decorated to feel like an exotic South Pacific island. The highlight of the lounge was its pool and piano âisland.â The clear notes of the pianist floated throughout the club, urging the guests to dance.
âShall we dance?â asked Jerry, grabbing Peggyâs hand.
Peggy grinned, âI think we shall!â
Dotty and Chet followed.
âDo you dance?â Chet asked.
âI love to dance!â said Dotty.
âAs do I,â said Chet. âShould we cut a rug?â
âYes!â exclaimed Dotty. It had been too long since she last had done so.
The four of them danced long into the night, kicking their heels high when the songs were fast, collapsing happily into each otherâs arms when the songs became slow.
Current WIP. It's based on this funky house from MidCentArc on Flickr. The design being from 1969 puts it a bit out of my usual Mid-Century-ness, but I thought it was intriguing. I see a couple minor aesthetic issues already, but I like the direction it's heading.
âHey Jerry, wouldnât it be fun to go on the swings? I havenât done that for such a long time!â Peggy said.
âOkay, Peg,â said Jerry. He knew that Peggy was trying to give Dotty and their new acquaintance Chet some time together. The two walked hand-in-hand to the playground portion of the park.
âSo, Chet, what do you do?â asked Dotty. She had never been much of a conversationalist.
âWell, I teach at the school. Mathematics, mostly and a bit of science,â Chet replied.
âOh, I should have guessed. You do have a professorial air about you,â Dotty said. âDo you enjoy teaching?â
âI do, truly,â Chet said. âI love seeing young minds develop and flourish. I donât think any other career could be more fulfilling than that. What do you do?â
âIâm a secretary. I went to secretarial school for two years, so itâs a great placement for me,â Dotty said.
âOh, are you new here, then?â Chet asked. âYou said âplacementâ so I assumedâŠâ
âYes, actually,â said Dotty. âWell, itâs been a couple of months, but I consider that new. I certainly didnât grow up here, at least.â
âI see, well, by that measure I suppose Iâm ânewâ as well. Not as short a time as a couple of months, but Iâve only been here since last summer. Itâs a pretty great town, I think,â said Chet.
âI agree,â said Dotty. âItâs a little difficult to meet people though. Iâm not the best at talking to new people. I mean, I have Peggy and Jerry, and my boss is very sociable, but itâs still hard.â
âIâm the same way!â said Chet. âBeyond my coworkers, I really donât know that many people. Maybe you and I could go out sometime?â he asked uncertainly.
âThat might be nice. It sounds like we both could use a bit of expanding for our social circles,â said Dotty.
The two exchanged telephone numbers, promising to call later that week to make plans. Who knew one could make a new friend on such a flimsy excuse as extra hot dogs.
