“Oh wow, that sucks. Don’t put your trust in the police. Let’s be honest, they’re probably trying to do something but can’t because they’re nothing but a disgrace. If you want something to get done, you ought to do it yourself. Sympathy isn’t supposed to make you feel pathetic. That would be pity which it doesn’t equal. It just means I don’t care as little about you as I do about most people.”

Jenna left her mother’s car saying goodbye very fast. She walked to the building like the rest of students and waited a bit until the car disappeared, then she walked out and went to a side of the basketball court. She knew that place very well since it was where she spent most of the time when she was at school. She sat in a spot where you could barely see her, then she lit a cigarette and started smoking quietly while looking at the sky.

Mike had been told to meet a few friends at the basketball court. It was a fairly populated area at times but right it didn’t have as much as usual. He noticed a puff of smoke come in his direction before turning to the direction from which it come. He noticed the girl and caustiously approached her. “Are you okay there? I haven’t seen you around.” He said welcomingly. “I’m Mike.”

“I’ve  been in better moods. I’m Mike by the way.”

“You know what I mean,” Rina sighed before shrugging, “I don’t know where everyone’s gone, but I hope they’re back soon.”

“I know. My parents are getting really worried. But the thing is, if I disappeared like that, they’d think I was doing it to get a point across and use of aggression.” He let out a small sigh. “The police in this town suck too..”

“Why, I’m honoured. Although I’m afraid I can’t guarantee I wouldn’t be an awful dad as well. I’ve kind of never tried it before and you never know what you’ll actually do in a situation until you’re in it, right? Wait - Aria’s just vanished? Hmm… odd. Well, I care about a lot of things. The people I feel sympathy for are on my list of those things as well.”

“But you aren’t so it doesn’t matter. Yeah, that makes sense. But yeah, Aria’s been missing for a good couple of days and the police don’t seem to be doing anything so I was on my way to the station.  You feel sympathy for me? That makes me feel pathetic.

Rina glares at him, annoyed at the way he is talking at her. However she softens her gaze before replying, “I know you’re just worried about Aria.”

“What does my sister have to do..” Mike paused before taking a moment to think. Maybe it was to do with the fact his sister had gone AWOL.

It must be quiet in the Montgomery residence without your tiny sister nagging you like leprechaun. I hope you're enjoying the peace and quiet. Otherwise you ought to get used to it. Being an only child is supposed to feel great anyway. Maybe daddy will finally be nicer to you if you're all he has - A

“Yeah sure sorry,” Rina didn’t even realise she was in anyone’s way and swiftly stepped away. She glared at Mike, “no need to be so rude about it.”

Mike moves past her before turning back around. “Listen. I’m still not on the mood so if have something important to say, say it now. “

“Probably not. Well, I hope I’m not your dad because as far as I’m informed that guy’s a bit of a serious douche. Hey, it’s whatever. But what’s up with you anyway? Are you just having one of those crappy days or is there a reason you’re in such a jolly mood?”

“Yeah. I’d  pick you being my dad over him in a heartbeat. My sisters not around my parents are just curious were she is and I guess I am having one of those days...Why do you care?”
