DOMINIE HOOPER ANNO 2022
Earlier this year I travelled to London to lay down some fiddle parts on the solo E.P. of my close friend and long-time collaborator, Dominie Hooper. Now it is June and the release date is upon us, so we are out on the road to tour the music live! For further info, visit: www.dominiehooper.com
TRAVELS RESUME! After a pandemic-forced touring hiatus (my first break in 15 years), I'm finally back in my old travelling boots. The English lockdown period was hard going; I'm not used to remaining in one place for long and so I felt as an old seadog on shore-leave. So, when it all passed, my first adventure afield was to Hamburg, Germany, to record fiddle for my dear friend Victor Herrero's new record. That was just before Christmas, 2021, and the German Christmas markets were in full swing. Then, in March, I received a long-awaited beckoning from Il Capitano, Vinicio Capossela; "come to Dubai, UAE, for the World Expo". So, off I went and found my fiddling sea-legs again. GISBURN FOREST FOLK GATHERING
I’m very fortunate to be coordinating this special event with some wonderful, talented individuals... 12th - 15th August 2021 - Gisburn Forest, Lancashire. Gisburn Forest Hub provides the beautiful backdrop for a carefully curated weekend of music workshops, sessions and professional development opportunities with a spirit of spontaneity and camaraderie you can’t create on Zoom! Some of the region’s most experienced educators and professional traditional music performers will be on hand to teach, mentor and share their skills. This is a family event with workshops suitable for young children (6+), older children and adults. Daytime workshops will be focused on ages 6-18 and some experience of music is preferable but not essential. Late afternoon / early evening workshops will be aimed at older children and adults. BAND OF BURNS - Beneath the Summer Moon; a live broadcast.
This evening, at 7.30pm, the Band of Burns will be streaming a special 2-metres apart programme live from Norfolk. Some of us, myself included, can't personally be there because of current circumstances BUT we've made up for that by recording our own solo and collaborative segments for the programme. The final result will be a mixed broadcast of live performances, pre-recorded performances, split-screen collaborations and interviews. It's been a bit of experiment for us and a lot of work has gone into it... not to mention that some have travelled a fair distance to pull it off. It's an important thing for us to try to find ways to sustain ourselves during this time, so all thhe support we can get goes a long way. The event is taking place on a special live-streaming platform and behind a ticket paywall. For further info and such, please visit: https://www.urstage.net/live/
