𝐇𝐄𝐘 ! this is a pinned post with some brief, general information and whatnot that’s important to me and this blog. more information can be found in the about and rules links found in my description. first and foremost, i’m an independent and selective roleplay blog. i will only roleplay with mutuals and, on top of that, will only roleplay with those above the age of 18. i politely request that if you’re under 18 that you do not follow nor engage with me.

The days since Tobias and Jack’s night together seemed to have gone by quickly, and now here they were once again, in Gibraltar together.

Professionalism dictated that the two still communicated and worked together regularly, which Tobias didn’t seem to mind. What had happened to him and Jack, he was uncertain if any deep connections had come from it. Jack, he speculated, likely saw it as a one and done deal between them. That didn’t bother Tobias if it was true. If Jack wanted to put it behind him, he would be more than willing to let the memory of that night fade for his sake.

He did not avoid Jack, conducting business as usual with the old soldier. The subject of their night never came up. It was just something Tobias felt didn’t need to be brought up, after all.

When the two were alone that night, he was in the middle of reading through some medical records when the question was dropped on him.

Well. That was unexpected.

“Mm, I do remember it, yes.” He answered without hesitation. “It’s hard to forget a night so…different from my usual nights.” He glanced over at Jack, more curious than embarrassed. “Why do you ask, Jack?”

Baby blues — creases and folds encircling, a sign of both age and stress — settled on Tobias. For a brief moment, he allowed himself the luxury of taking in Tobias’ features properly; it was no wonder why he’d felt himself lured into his midst. He was handsome. Very handsome. Jack was just internally kicking himself for succumbing to such beauty when he’d told himself he wouldn’t get involved with anyone during his stays at Gibraltar — or any Overwatch base, for that matter.

Couldn’t change the past. He knew that all too well. But he also couldn’t afford to pretend that the past didn’t happen. He knew that well too.

❝ We haven’t brought it up, ❞  he states,  ❝ out of professionalism, modesty, or both — I don’t know. I just want to know your thoughts on our night together. And before you ask, no, I’m not wanting to know if I was good or not. ❞  He made a dismissive gesture.  ❝ I’m not seeking some ego stroke. ❞

It’d been a week, or thereabouts, since their carnal connection. Jack had made a distinct note to not seek anyone out while he was located in Gibraltar and, to be fair to himself, he didn’t seek anyone out. It just sort of... happened. One comment led to another, one touch led to a caress, and before they knew it, they’d crafted a bond — however momentary — that blossomed into them sharing a bed that night.

Honestly, Jack wasn’t used to talking to, let alone seeing, his hook-ups after the fact. Given he was used to having to bounce from his accommodation, if it could be called that, shortly thereafter, it meant that whoever had the chance to glance upon his garbless skin was granted one chance and one chance alone. No encores.

This was clearly different.

Jack made no attempt to ignore or avoid Tobias. He wasn’t going to be that kind of person. They talked when they needed to talk and they walked when they needed to walk. It just so happened that the topic of what’d transpired didn’t crop up in conversation at all. It didn’t help that they were both taciturn souls.

Chances were they were both waiting for the other to bring it up.

Well, someone was going to initiate and Jack guessed it was going to be him. Later during the day, when dusk began to taint the sky a swirling bruise of orange and pink, Jack sought Tobias out. Conveniently, they were in a room, alone, and Jack plopped himself on a seat nearby Tobias’ own. Not too close, but not too far. A reasonable distance, as far as he was concerned.

❝ So. ❞  Awkward.  ❝ I’m sort of getting the gist that if I don’t bring it up, it won’t be brought up at all. You, uh, remember a week ago? ❞

jack renounced his catholic faith since after overwatch fell; however, he still reverts to it in specific circumstances. in situations where someone he cares about is in a dangerous situation — if personal or in a mission or anything of the likes — he begs god to keep them safe. especially if they’re in a circumstance where if he’s there, it’ll compromise their safety more.

he finds it more comforting to put his worries to a higher power than to sit, dwelling and brewing, amidst anxiety.

People were playing it too safe. It felt like no matter what he said in this damned meeting, they wanted to play safe. It made him heavily reconsider offering consultancy for Winston and, by extension, the remainder of Overwatch. Tobias must have noticed the tension in his jaw, muscles shifting taut beneath skin. If he hadn’t, he wouldn’t have sought him after the meeting had long since concluded. 

Jack was gazing over the outer precipice of the base, hoping the fresh, salt-tinged air swelling his lungs would aid in unravelling tension wrought. Gibraltar was beautiful at dusk. He hadn’t anticipated for his time of attempted peace to be ruptured, but the words that followed were a pleasant surprise.

His head bobbed in a modest nod. ❝ Yes, sometimes an opportunity emerges by first giving them opportunity. Play into their hands, then cut them off. ❞
