Too often we grapple with ideas of fighting amongst ourselves and pointing the finger at the next man and their wrongdoings. We are in an age where it's time to put aside childish beliefs or force-fed traditions and try something new. Embark the unknown. It's about having faith when you can no longer physically see the finish line. When I first interned at NASA, I came up with a mission called O.K.E.A. I was given less than 10 minutes to come up with my personal mission for my life. Decide my life in 10 minutes? My palms started sweating and I'm looking back and forth between my mom and a blank sheet of paper. Afraid to accept the challenge, I panicked. I searched every memory and experience I had up to that point and asked myself, "What is my personal mission in life?" The ten minutes were up and everyone handed in their drawings. I looked down at my paper and decided against sharing my ideas.

One of the mentors got up and asked for a student to present their ideas to the group. My mom looked at my paper, similar to any other parent who can see the potential when their child cannot, and she encouraged me to raise my hand. I stood up in front of the entire group and looked my mother dead in the eye. She gave me her nod of approval and acceptance and like a fire that burns from the inside out my whole body grew warm with confidence to face my fears. I was able to speak with an open heart about my journey.

My mission plan was named O.K.E.A. It stood for, the "opportunity of a lifetime," the "knowledge to go forth and do the unexpected," the "experience dealing with the real world," and "the right to achieve the unknown."

I say all that to encourage people to keep striving for better. No matter your current situation life happens. Change starts gradually, and then suddenly. Thanks for that life lesson Ernest Hemingway.
