If your reason for hating AI is that you believe people should work hard "like you're some kind of protestant," I don't trust you. There are ways to be critical of AI that don't involve throwing your fellow humans under the bus.

It is my job to build resilience and endurance skills related to literacy and writing in adolescents many of whom have been conditioned by AI to believe everything should be easy and that challenges should be avoided at all costs. My values are that without struggle and practice and doing your own hard work your brain does not develop the critical reading and civics skills necessary to be a free thinking adult in society. lock me up and send me away

Most recent repurposing project, from askirt I made and some curtains into a (slightly adapted due to yardage constraints) Gunne Sax dress. Lots of ruffles, was a great learning experience! Needs some alteration on the back so the ruffles aren't flapping outwards but it's a lovely shape!

You know those things you were taught at some point, where you're 90% sure that it's bullshit, also above zero chance that it was simply made up on the spot, and you can't even remember who taught you that, but you still remember nonetheless?

I vaguely recall at some point being taught about the "terrier test", where you can determine whether a mixed dog that's part terrier breed counts as a terrier, or whether a whole breed you're unfamiliar with are terriers or not. You hould up a rope toy or something similar that the dog can safely and comfortably bite into, at your own shoulder level.

If the dog - unprompted, not encouraged or forbidden from doing so, fully voluntarily - jumps at the toy, reaches it, and dangles on by their teeth, supporting their entire body weight with jaw force and stubbornness alone, and seems to enjoy doing so, that's a terrier.

Tumblr gossip is so wild. I only really go here for knitting but even I'm aware that the "sexyman" is probably the black and white guy with a pyramid for a head.

Megamind is so funny to me. Several things are easily and beautifully established in the first few scenes of the movie.

Probably the worst crime that Megamind can actually be persecuted for is kidnapping. Some destruction of property. Otherwise, absolutely nobody is actually scared of him. There's no evacuation when he "takes over" (unlike later when Tighten takes over and there's a mass-exodus.)

He has some form of probably legitimate income since he purchases and ships all of his "evil lair" accessories from an outlet store, of all things, in Romania.

He has fans. (Fucking Bernard)

He probably hasn't killed anybody ever. (He told Roxanne to evacuate the Metro Man museum "we're having the walls and ceiling removed")

He purposely mispronounces things. (Says spider correctly initially, and then "corrects" himself.)

He unintentionally mispronounces things. ("Ollo?")

He doesn't know what windows are???? Has to be explained to him, despite his lair having them???? And the jail he was raised in has windows???? And the school he went to had windows????

His alligators (from the alligator pit) are very obviously well-loved and cared for. They have a disco ball, their own room, and piles of toys. They looked like they were having a great time, actually.

OP how could you forget the brainbots that he's clearly engineered and they usually listen to him but they also have minds of their own and act like cats/dogs. Like he could've just made them mindless robots but no. Silly pets that are sometimes helpful but also randomly bite him.

My workplace recently had a thing about ‘do you know how many days we lose to stress related sick days? Here are some ways to manage stress’ and it’s things like ‘keep a gratitude journal’

But I don’t know - when I started work, many decades ago, it was expected you’d start at 9, finish at 5. You’d get your lunch break. You are expected to give about 70% of yourself the majority of your time. The last hour of each day and Friday afternoon were quiet times. There was time in the day to hang out with your coworkers for ten minutes talking about anything, not just work.

Now you’re expected to come in early and leave late and work through lunch. Give 100% all the time, more if you can push it. Don’t take leave. Work every second of every day as hard as you can push yourself. Do not waste time in the kitchen just chatting. Why aren’t you working harder?

And perhaps we’re burning out and take massive amounts of stress leave not because we’re not keeping a gratitude journal but because we are all being pushed to breaking point consistently, day after day, until we snap.

The older days weren’t perfect. But there was an understanding that work wasn’t life, and we could relax a little at work and still get paid enough to live. Now we are expected to give everything we’ve got, then give more, and not get paid enough to do something as simple as get a coffee after work. Even our hobbies are supposed to be monetised.

I blame Reagan and Thatcher but also blame every business leader since then who thought that pattern of work was in any way sustainable.
