It was the raging storm of a foreign war, and a face I'd seen before... | Mob Psycho 100 Season 3 Episode 10 + Pale White Horse by The Oh Hellos
Reigen’s whole involvement in the season 1 Claw arc is extremely funny on its own but I’ve decided it’s funniest of all from Teru’s POV.
This man shows up to the cell you’re being detained and Kageyama addresses him as master. Kageyama is already the person Teru holds in highest regard of anyone he’s ever met, and now that boy’s master has walked in the door.
What’s more, Kageyama’s master has entirely fooled the 7th Division of Claw into thinking he is Claw’s boss. Was this high level mind control? Or is Kageyama’s master just an unmatched genius?
This man then scolds Kageyama for using his powers against people (and that’s part of the philosophy that changed Teru’s life! Echoed right back at them.) But! The circumstances were dire! They NEEDED to fight to survive.
And Kageyama’s master seems to understand this. He apologizes to Mob. He then turns on the Claw upper echelon members and scolds them, and fells two of them without even using his powers, which is also in line with the philosophy even if the drop-kick seemed a little violent…
But unfortunately, they don’t listen to reason. They escalate with their psychic powers and the fight is ON.
Sure, Kageyama’s master keeps insisting the kids NOT fight, but Teru is pragmatic! Claw won’t listen! The kids need to fight! KAGEYAMA needs to fight!
But his master keeps refusing. He tells Kageyama to run away. And at that moment one of the Claw members slices Kageyama’s master in half.
And this is bad, this is bad, surely—except, wait. Kageyama’s master stands right back up. He’s fine. He’s more than fine—he’s ANNOYED.
And, one can only assume this is because the master has decided to get serious. Because without breaking a sweat. Without lifting a finger. Without even showing a hint of aggression, he disarms every single Claw terrorist.
And WHILE he’s doing this? He’s yelling at them to grow up! Get a job! Stop being delusional idiots!! One Claw member asks if the master is telling them to go back to being commoners and the master says “No you idiot, you’ve been commoners this entire time. I’M A COMMONER, and I’m more powerful than you, so fucking tell me what that makes you.”
And all the while he’s wielding godlike power like it’s nothing. And Teru is listening to the origin of Mob’s “Our powers don’t make us special. We’re all commoners actually.” philosophy that altered Teru’s life. Right from the source. The master I s yelling about it passionately while disarming elite terrorists with his pinky finger.
So OF COURSE, NATURALLY, this is the man worthy of being Kageyama’s master. Teru understands entirely! This genius of infinite power who could fell nations but instead lives humbly and respectfully as a common man, because even the most elite psychics are not better than anyone else.
I think Teru went home with a new idol crafted in his eyes and Reigen went home going “what the fuck was all that? Well anyway I don’t have Mob’s powers anymore so it doesn’t matter. Why can I see this ghost.”
And this is actually all very unfortunate if Mob, Ritsu, and Teru all hang out. Because Mob will be like “Oh Master Reigen did something really cool today” *proceeds to describe something really lame* and Teru will be nodding and agreeing and hanging on with rapt attention and thinking “Well that all sounds really lame actually but I understand Kageyama is humbly downplaying the accomplishments of his great master.” and Ritsu will be mentally stabbing himself with a spoon.
Also the next time Teru hears anything about this man is when Reigen is being brutally canceled on Twitter for being a fake psychic.
And like. Teru definitely saw Reigen obliterate black holes with the sweep of his hand. That is a thing Reigen did that Teru witnessed. Among other things. Which weren't fake because you Do Not defeat the Claw 7th Division by faking your power.
And yet rather than prove his infinite powers, which exist because Teru saw them, Reigen is choosing to just sit there like 😒 in front of all the microphones while getting executed at the altar of public opinion over livestream and this has to be... like a plan of some kind... Kageyama's Great Master must have some great vision... for getting canceled on Twitter.

Im mobbin it bro im straight psycho
ITS MOB DAY : )))))))))))))))
Happy birthday my lovely : ) boy ok
i blame the anime for this but i feel like on average terumob content seems to drastically overestimate teru's sauveness when the average canon terumob interaction is just
look me in the eyes and tell me this is a couple capable of casual flirtation.
actually im kinda losing my mind am i crazy or is this joke the exact same pacing and punchline
So it’s clear that when Mob transferred his powers to Reigen in the Claw 7th Division arc, he did not do it intentionally. It was just the redirection of his massive energy out-pour toward Reigen out of gratitude.
Then in the World Domination arc he does, intentionally, transfer some of his power to Shou to help Shou get back up. And this is a very big deal because Touichiro is like “what the hell power transfer is MY thing.”
Where I’m going with this is the realization that Mob DOES know how to do the power transfer thing intentionally and I am picturing a post-series-finale case where Reigen calls up Mob frantic like “Sorry I know you’re not working today but this is a real case and Serizawa is at school and this thing is going to eat me please come help.”
And Mob shows up like “Okay here you go” and raises his hand but the spirit does not disappear. And Reigen is like “Mob please I don’t think that did anything.” And Mob is like “I didn’t exorcise the spirit Shishou. I’m off work today. I gave you some of my powers though. Please use them responsibly.”
And Reigen is just standing there staring at his fingers in crisis going wait holy shit, my whole body is buzzing, I can move shit with my mind, oh shit I have powers (temporarily) (Mob’s powers), wait I’M still supposed to exorcise the spirit?
And Mob is like “have fun Shishou bye” and Reigen is like “Mob wait I want an instruction manual” and Mob is like “that would look bad to the client” who is currently cowering in the corner.
Anyway I think Mob continues to do this and now Reigen has to deal with the consequences of becoming actually sometimes psychic after so long pretending to be psychic.
Teru "can copy any ability he's seen one time" Hanazawa is hanging around the S&S office one day and ends up bearing witness to this. ("Mob I told you to stop giving me your powers when I didn't ask. You're still an employee of Spirits and Such so when I ask you to do a task you should do it." "But Hanazawa is in the middle of explaining this math problem to me." -Reigen telekinetically confiscates math book from them- "I'm not paying you to do math.")
And Teru who's been trying for 8+ months to rationalize why he's never seen Mob's great Shishou use his powers even once since taking down the Claw 7th Division (despite clearly needing them many times) (despite running a psychic agency) (Teru kept rationalizing this as some kind of enlightened psychic ascetism from Reigen) finally has every single neuron click into place as he realizes the Claw 7th Division display was just Reigen using Mob's powers.
And he snaps his head to Mob like "Kageyama does Reigen-Shishou not have powers?!" and Mob's like "Well right now he does."
And Reigen goes "Hey" and Teru falls into a really deep contemplative silence for several seconds before he raises his hand and copies Mob's technique and also gives Reigen his powers. To which Reigen says "Hey."
Mob Psycho takes place during peak Poke Your Friends On Facebook era which does open the possibility of Teru and Mob doing this regularly to Reigen for the same inane and pointless reason. Which is to say absolutely no reason. And Reigen can’t “poke” them back because he is not a real psychic and has no idea what he’s doing.
Ritsu alone doesn’t do it which Reigen is grateful for. Ritsu alone doesn’t do it because he is not like Teru and cannot copy powers effortlessly and can’t figure out how to do it.
Which puts him in the absolutely torturous situation of Reigen thinking Ritsu is being nice to him and Ritsu’s only two options are “admit he can’t actually do it” or “let Reigen believe Ritsu likes him.”
Necessary reblog to say I can so clearly picture the freeze-frame of Reigen, wide-eyed, mid-outrageous-hand-gesture, realizing the violent BOOM behind him was all his furniture going into the wall.
Weird Chair
I have thoughts and feelings about Teru. Thoughts and feelings have become a one-shot.
-------
The Hanazawa kid was strong. Reigen understood this thoroughly. It was clear from the shock and scale and heat of every psychic attack Hanazawa launched, from the shockwaves that rocked Reigen’s footing and the blowback that singed his cuffs when he blocked his face from the heat. And it was clear from the articulation of Hanazawa’s movements, the speed and the agility and the precision of his motions that perhaps had less to do with psychic abilities and more to do with a total mastery of his physical body. And it was clear from Hanazawa’s drive to keep trying, again and again, in the relentless face of failure.
The Hanazawa kid was not as strong as Mob. Reigen understood this thoroughly. It was clear because if this were Mob, they’d have escaped long before now. And it was clear because Hanazawa made a point to mention—no, to apologize—as often as he could, that he was not as strong as Mob. Even after Reigen had requested him to stop.
Reigen considered this all somewhat unhappily as he sat across from Hanazawa. Reigen was parked in something that was almost a lawn chair, but if that lawn chair were crafted by an entity that forgot what shape humans usually are. It hunched his knees close to his chest. Hanazawa sat in an equally-weird chair, in the opposite manner, tilted forward as he rolled strange bandages around the greasy wounds that covered his forearm like leopard spots.
“Sorry, Master Reigen,” Hanazawa said, not looking up, but surely sensing Reigen’s eyes on him. “I wasn’t able to hit it. I have more ideas for what to try next. It’ll just help if I wrap my arms up first.”
“I’m not rushing you, H—Teru,” Reigen answered. Right, he wanted to go by Teru. Just Teru. No doubt because Mob was just ‘Mob’ to Reigen, and Teru did not want a title more formal than what Mob received. It was just a little hard, since Mob exclusively referred to him as Hanazawa-kun. “I am, in fact, of the opinion that we are taking a well-earned break. I think you should relax for a bit and have some of this… Tak—Tok--Tyokyoki… with me…” Reigen squinted at the illegible packaging of the rations which had been materializing at a continuous pace around them.
“What… is that?” Teru asked.
Reigen ripped open the packaging, which opened along a ripcord instead of any actual reasonable packaging. “It looks sweet. It—nope—fish, definitely. Oh and red bean? It—hmm…” Reigen pulled out the… shape. Which was about the best description of the things in the packaging. They were shapes. He bit into it and chewed. “Hmm. It is not very good. But it is food.”
A new package appeared beside Reigen. He leaned over in his weird chair to get a better look at it. “Good news. We have a second option. Which is whatever that is.”
not even close to Christmas but I couldn’t stop myself
also hi lol (。・ω・。)ノ
Just finished mp100 and I’m obsessed
Pop-up
hi. i disappeared for a while
a minor headcanon that I will die defending is that reigen initially assumed that mob’s supposed “psychic powers” were just how he rationalized his autism to himself. like here’s an obviously autistic kid, one reigen clocks immediately because he’s, well, reigen, and he’s talking about extra sensory perception and having powers he can’t control, powers that are scary. obviously, he assumes, this is something the kid picked up from his parents, a way for him to rationalize his alienation from other children— that no, you’re not “different”, you’re special (not even going into the parents who think their autistic children are like, aliens) and the other kids can see that you’re special and so they treat you like you’re weird and creepy and they don’t invite you to play and they whisper behind your back but it’s fine, because one day they’ll see how special you really are. and adult autistic reigen arataka, who was also probably-definitely bullied as a child, decides to nip that thought in the bud and gives the whole spiel, that no, “psychic powers” (autism) don’t make you special, and yes, they do make you different, and that’s fine because everyone’s different, and at the end of the day you have agency and you get to decide the kind of person you’ll be, so choose to be a kind one, and he sees this kid hanging off his every word as he tells him the kind of stuff he wishes someone had told him when he was so little and alone, and he mentally pats himself on the back and hypes himself up for another cigarette.
and then the kid makes a teacup float in front of him and he’s like oh. damn. can you kill ghosts
overflow
god bless mob psycho for having a main character who has a more dangerous kinda scary side to them and having the ending not be "yes!! we defeated the scary alter ego!!!" and actually be "everybody has a part of themself that they struggle with. in order to grow as a person you have to accept all parts of yourself". hell fucking ues
so in love with the fact that it’s canon that Mob was working w/ Reigen at Spirits & Such since he was like, IN ELEMENTARY. The image of Reigen dragging around an even smaller child to his exorcism job cracks me up. Like, a spirit tries to attack them and Reigen guilt trips them by saying shit like : “you’re going to hit a CHILD? you’re going to attack a poor SINGLE FATHER with his CHILD? this BABY? You’re threatening to kill this BABY?” And then Mob blow them up with his mind
