I've noticed that if you're really good at masking or self managing your mental disabilities and illnesses that people are supportive but god forbid anyone ACTUALLY lash out have a meltdown or generally visable thing occur related to said issues and then all of a sudden you're toxic, abusive, bad, too much, etc.

Like there are obvious situations where people use illnesses purely as an excuse to act shitty or people that refuse to address manageable things and ignore people's boundries because "I have x y z" or whatever but for the majority of us trying our best but struggling that have the "unattractive" symptoms and reactions we get lumped in and out down for things purely out of our control.

A lot of this is based on ignorance and lack of informity because a lot of people don't even know what to look for or lack experience with mental illnesses/disabilities and the people that have them. We're making progress, but progress is slow. When you can and if you're able, be an informant! Talk about what's going on with you if you're comfortable to do so! Talking about this stuff is still seen as somewhat taboo, and that needs to change. For those of us who are able, let's do it! Change starts with us! 🫶
