the zamora family has lived in new orleans since their enslaved ancestors were brought to this country , the matriarch of the family ( only referred to as maman ) is a root worker who married a christian preacher ( only referred to as papa ) . their relationship isn’t exactly healthy but they’re deeply committed to one another .

maman has raised three generations of zamoras , her children , her grand children and as of a few months ago her great grand children have been toddling around her home . jam was the very last child that maman had , and as such she was pretty much babied her entire life . 

she was the definition of a big fish in a small pond , she was the it girl around her neighborhood and naturally when she turned eighteen and moved to new york she thought it’d be easy for her to get famous . her ultimate goal was to star on broadway but that never happened . she went from dead end job , to dead end job . did a few plays , off broadway of course , and was in a total of three commercials . 

she moved from new york to LA when her roommate ( and girlfriend ) at the time decided to leave , she followed without a second thought , they moved into wisteria together and even though they eventually broke up they’re still friends and roommates 

she still wants to be an actress , she’s constantly going on auditions and hoping that she’ll get her big break , but a girls still got bills to pay so she’s a waitress at jaanu! and occasionally will bartend at the red circle

“ vodka cranberry - ” she smirked eyebrows raising , “ the most boring drink you could have picked but alright , you’re just oh so pretty pretty and you’ve appealed to my ego so i’ll make it for you . ” and something better because duh ... “ oh my god , guess what ? ” she started as she mixed together a purple drink that practically shimmered under the club lights . “ i thought i saw drake earlier and i was like , flirting with this man heavy because , it’s drake . then he tells me that his name is justin and he came with his friends from nebraska . ” sliding the drinks across the counter , “ and to make it all worse , justin tipped me three dollars . like dude , why are you here if you only have three dollars to tip your bartender and you touched my tits . they’re worth more than three dollars . ”

someone told victor to venture out for new year’s eve rather than sit at home by himself to watch the ball drop, and how he ended up at a club felt like he was on autopilot. but he was always enthusiastic to try new adventures.

he’d been to the red circle for a couple dates a few years ago but hadn’t visited since he moved to wisteria. he looked up, wide-eyed at the compliment, rosy color coming to his cheeks. “ah jeez, well — it was either this or watching ryan seacrest on my tv for three hours. can’t imagine your patience on a night like this though.” he chuckled. “i’ll, uh, get an old fashioned.”

“ people still watch the ball drop ? ” she frowned honestly surprised that was a tradition he’d even considered . it sounded rather boring to her , sitting around watching other people have all the fun . “ i didn’t know that , but i’m glad you chose me over seacrest . ” completely skipping over the fact that he’d probably come for the club , not so much her , but in the youngest zamora’s world everyone showed up for her . “ it really has been a struggle and a half . ” mixing together the drink without even glancing away . “ ah well, you should give me a big ol’ tip for me having to suffer through the night . ” she teased with a wink before sliding the old fashioned across the counter , “ here ya go . ”

fingers tapping against the bar top as her mind ran through drink recipes  . “ something tells me that you’re the type of person that doesn’t want to taste the alcohol so ... ” trailing off as she went about creating a bright pink drink topped with cotton candy . “ try this , if you don’t like it then - ” shrugging , “ i’m clearly terrible at my job and that’s just not true so , tell me how much you like it , for kicks you can also tell me how pretty i am . it’s been a busy day i could use the compliments . ”
