Conveyor efficiency 101: it's not just about the belt 🏭⚙️
Ever wonder why some plants deal with constant spillage and downtime on their conveyors while others just... don't?
Turns out a LOT of it comes down to belt cleaners. Carryback material (the sticky stuff that clings to the belt after discharge) builds up on idlers and chutes over time. If it's not controlled, you get:
→ material spillage everywhere → belt mistracking → more cleanup labor → faster wear on the belt + pulleys → safety risks near the tail pulley
The fix is usually a primary + secondary belt cleaner combo — primary clears the bulk of the material right at discharge, secondary catches whatever's left behind for a cleaner belt surface.
Few things that actually matter for getting this right:
blade material should match what you're carrying (polyurethane vs tungsten carbide-tipped for abrasive stuff like wet limestone)
tensioning has to be correct — bad tensioning = premature blade wear, super common mistake
pairing cleaners with proper pulley lagging = better grip, less slippage, especially in humid climates
inspect blades every 3-4 months as a baseline, but really go by wear condition not just the calendar
Bonus: a good setup also cuts down vibration/impact noise, which is nice for the whole plant environment.
