Hangover | Raven & Charles
"You know I see you like a sister, Raven, and what is mine is yours and what is yours is mine." He chuckled slightly, dampening his lips "I love you and I don’t like the idea of you being violated in such a way. You deserve more than a few drunken idiots trying to grope you." Oh, how Charles was a hypocrite in moments like this. Only the night before he had kissed what he thought was a stranger without so much as a second thought. "I work doing what I love. It isn’t work if you like it." He pushed himself onto the sofa and next to Raven wrapping an arm around her "I’m sorry - I stink," he chuckled softy. "I should actually say now,I won’t be leaving the university until late tonight so you should probably leave without me."
Her lip twitched, but that was her only give away. She'd gotten good at it, hiding the fact that she'd never gotten over that innocent childhood kiss all those years ago. She pretended that she could deal this, with him seeing her as a little blue girl with scrapes on her knees long after she'd become a woman beside him. "That's nice. I'm not quitting my job though. You love it when I bring home free peanuts." She smirked, wrapping the blanket around her shoulders and curling up next to him as he sat. She lay her head in his lap, blonde curls bouncing past her shoulders. "I can handle it." She mumbled, though she remained firm. And honestly, she wasn't quite sure if she deserved much more. "There's nothing I love." Raven shrugged, eyes fluttering closed as his voice fell against her ears. She smiled, genuine. "I'm not going, anyway. I was gonna cook dinner for us."
Hangover | Raven & Charles
Charles sighed slightly, pinching the bridge of his nose as he moved towards Raven with a sigh “I don’t know why you put yourself through that, Raven - you know I am more than happy to provide for you. I owe you as much for staying by my side from Westchester to Harvard to Oxford and now here. Please, just hand in your letter of resignation.” He crouched down beside the sofa, his hand reaching out to caress his hair. He was suddenly aware that he stunk of sex and beer and made a mental note to have a very thorough shower before he went to the university. His stomach churned slightly at the idea. He bloody hated having to see one night stands again, never mind… him. However, that wasn’t important. Raven was. “Are you angry at me?”
The stench of sex was like a slap to the face, but she ignored it and turned toward him anyway as she felt his presence beside her. Eyes fluttering open, Raven gazed over at Charles. "I do it because... I wanna take care of myself. We're not related, I'm not entitled to your money, Charles." She knew she sounded grumpy, and it was probably because she was. She was grumpy because she'd worked all night, and she'd fallen asleep wondering where he was and why it wasn't it her. Why it was never her. "I can deal with creeps. You know that. And I'm good at waitressing." She forced a smile, reaching out to tussle his hair. "No I'm not angry with you, goof. Why would I be angry with you? I'm glad you had a good time -- you deserve it. You work too hard."
Hangover | Raven & Charles
Charles moved further into their home, rolling his eyes at his adoptive sister. He had told her before not to wait up for him and yet she still did it anyway. He had also told her that she didn’t need to take up the extra job as a waitress, his inheritance would keep them both for several lifetimes but she still did that too. How could one girl be so stubborn? “Yes, I had a nice night, thank you,” he said simply. He opened his mouth to elaborate when he stopped himself. Unlike other nights, the person he had hooked up with was’t just some random stranger that he would never see again. He was a professor at the university and the last thing he wanted was the students knowing. “How was work last night?” he asked, trying to move on the conversation.
"I'm glad." Her muffled voice replied, a cushion flattening itself against her face as she curled up in a tiny ball. She slept in the oddest positions, either sprawled all over the place or curled up like a cat. Of course, she wasn't actually glad -- she knew where Charles was, and she'd waited up in the hopes that he might just fall through the door at midnight and throw his arms warm around her waist. But this was Charles, and Charles spent his nights sharing beds with strangers, and Charles stunk of liqueur on a Monday morning, and that was okay because she didn't deserve all he gave her anyway. It was okay. "Oh lovely as always. Only got my ass grabbed twice, imagine that."
"-- what? Of course I was in class today."
Hangover | Raven & Charles
Charles groaned slightly, rubbing his temples in a bid to nurse his hangover. He had awoken far too early in a bed that was not his and throbbing that resonated through his skull before he had risen from the hotel room’s soft white sheets. He had dressed himself in the trail of clothes from the bed to the door (or the other way round, depending on how you looked at it) and then gone to get a taxi. The man he had spent the previous night with had paid the hotel room before he left, evidently. After a short taxi journey, Charles arrived back at his flat, letting himself in with a small sigh, calling out as he shut the door behind him. “Honey! I’m home!”
Raven awoke on the sofa with a start, the cushions dipping slightly beneath her slim frame as she came to her senses again, taking in her surroundings. With a glance at the clock, she groaned, quickly counting up the mere four hours she'd managed to sleep followed by a string of swears. "Welcome home, darling." She replied begrudgingly, usually greeting Charles with a cheery face and a scramble of limbs wrapping themselves around him. But she'd worked a late shift last night, received several unsavoury comments regarding her ass, and had proceeded - rather foolishly - to wait up for Charles only to fall asleep on the couch in the process. "Hope you had fun last night." She grumbled, pulling the blanket over her head as she swiftly changed back into her blonde disguise.
"I could see why she meant so much to you."
