Error correction after re-telling 'Do you speak English?'

I showed my students a few mistakes that they could learn from. They will be very useful when they are explaining what someone says.

I had detected the problem when they were re-telling the story of a video half of them had watched.

In class I demonstrated a technique to help my students get more fluent when speaking. This idea can be used in class or at home, or anywhere.

You need some sentences in English like the ones in the Grammar Bank exercise b for 1A on page 127 of our student's book. If the sentences are very long it gets more difficult, but you can do half a sentence at a time.

Look, Look away, Say:

First you look at the sentence, then you look in another direction, then you say the sentence. Then you do the next sentence. Of course you use your mobile phone to record yourself.

Here is my second recording on the first day of the course. I was explaining the grammar for 1A on page 126 of English File Pre-intermediate 3rd edition. My instructions to my students were, "Open your book and listen if you want to hear my explanation again."

Here's the first recording I made yesterday on the first day of class.

Later I used Audacity to convert it to an mp3 file. 

I was answering the question, "Where are you from?"

Unbelievably, it also provides a transcript of the first minute of the recording!

Recorded on my Android smart phone. The five questions from Question Time in the workbook for New English File Pre-intermediate were projected on the IWB behind me and five students took it in turns to ask me the questions.

I then sent it to [email protected]

Ideally I would have used the wifi in the building, but I had problems connecting, so I sent it on my data plan.

The questions were from a pre-intermediate book, but the audience were native and near-native speakers.

This is what I wrote as they were writing. My speed, 28 words per minute, wasn't necessarily the fastest: sometimes my students actually wrote faster than me!

Originally recorded as one long recording with sections about sport at school and sport as a hobby as well. Here I've divided the original recording into three sections and include here the two versions I recorded. In fact, I had three classes at the same level in 2005-2006 but one of the recordings has got lost or was never made.
