Well... it was fun while it lasted
While I intend on sticking around until the water is around my legsā¦ I canāt help but thinking this is the end. And I just arrived a few months ago. :(
I recently quit Facebook because Iād realized it had become unhealthy for me. And while here, Iāve found a healthy and intelligent (and fun!) community with which I could talk about Life is Strange, RWBY, and more. I made friends. And now itās being destroyed.
We have no idea what type ofĀ āLGBTā content will be considered adult. There are folk who insist the very conceptĀ of LGBT isĀ āadultā and needs to be concealed from children (and society itself). So any and every blog with even a tiny hint of LGBT+ content will likely get flagged by trolls andĀ āconcerned citizensā seeking to censor us. And given how idiotic Tumblr is beingā¦ no doubt any and all content considered LGBT+ will be banned once there are any complaints about it.
Itās going to hurt more than just fanartists and discussions of LGBT+ content though. Itās going to hurt cosplayers and people who put up content that some folk will insist is sexualized. And if enough complaints go up against someone, do you honestlyĀ think Tumblr is going to see it as an attack on that person, or blame the person being bullied?
This will be used to silence us. Even if the Tumblr executives donāt believe it will, you will see these emboldened trolls and assholes go after people and do report after report after report to bury accounts. They will use LGBT+ content to claim an account isĀ āadultā and thus needs to be shut down. And if enough reports show up, Iām fairly certain the algorithms will shut down accounts even if they are not showing adult content.
My one hope is that we see another Tumblr arise. Hopefully itāll be crafted by people who are LGBT+ positive and who take heart with the lessons Tumblr taughtā¦ and work to rein in the bots while allowing artistic freedom to truly shine.
