Support for singles dealing with cancer.
Imerman's Angels for 1 on 1 cancer support
Your about to start chemotherapy and you've heard about the side effects from the doctors, you've had training with your nurse on what to expect, but have you been able to have a 1 on 1 conversation with someone that's been there already? Someone who is now on the other side and a survivor? Thanks to Imerman's Angels you can!
One of the amazing people I met at the OMG Cancer Summit in New York City was Jonny Imerman who is the founder of Imerman's Angels an increadibale non-profit that matches cancer patients with cancer survivors for one to one mentoring. Jonny, who is now a powerhouse of positive energy, learned through his own fight against testicular cancer that it can be hard to find someone your age, gender, and battiling the same type of cancer to connect to. Patients can not only talk to someone that understands what they are going through but they can actually find someone that has already beaten the same type of cancer that they now fighting against! Fantastic! I wish I could have had this type of support when I was going through chemotherapy. So now I am here to spread the word!
Signing up is free and easy, just to to http://www.imermanangels.org and fill out from to get matched up with a "Mentor Angel". A Mentor Angel is a cancer survivor or survivor's caregiver who is the same age, gender, and has beaten the same type of cancer. Once a match is made you will be able to have conversations with someone who truly understands what your going though because they have already been there and beaten cancer. You can't get more inspirational than that!
OMG Cancer Summit
WOW! What an amazing weekend I just had at the 4th annual OMG! Cancer Summit. If you haven’t heard of the I’m to young for this! Cancer Foundation you should check them out! This is an amazing support community for cancer patients, survivors, and caregivers between 15-40. It’s all about helping young adults fight cancer and getting out there and live!
The conference brought together hundreds of survivors, caregivers, and advocates to connect with each other and get educated. Boy did we get educated-there were so many fantastic speakers on an array of topics from Patient Navigation to being young and single with cancer to legal issues. Kris Carr was a keynote speaker and she blew us away with info on eating healthy and the importants of a vegan diet. There was so much information I filled half a notebook. I will be sharing that info in upcoming blogs…till then check out stupidcancer.com and spread the word!!
