Okay but also like, the framing seems to be that it’s antisemitic that the same wasn’t extended to Hanukkah but there’s literally no reason why it should be (Christmas shouldn’t be allowed either) but like, in no way should Hanukkah be a reason for large gatherings

of course, no one should be gathering for any holiday, it’s just strange that quebec is relaxing regulations for christians but not for us…. and it’s so WHINY, too, like if we had to stay home for the high holies, you guys can stay home for christmas 🙃

Yeah, my point isn’t, “We should gather for Hanukkah, a holiday I actually care very little about,” my congregation has been closed since MARCH, and it’s been a really miserable time but I believe intensely in the principle of pikuach nefesh and so my ass hasn’t seen a minyan in forever. 

My point is that while we’ve missed Passover, Yom Kippur, Rosh Hashanah, and for me personally, the 100th anniversary of the congregation, “secular” governments who “care about all their people” were sitting around going, “Oh, it’s necessary to protect people, stiff upper lip and all that, press F to pay respects” and the MINUTE Christmas gets threatened, it’s a completely different story. 

Cultural Christians/people who celebrate Christmas (to stave off some yoyo in a santa hat in front of their tree shaking their head at how “christians” are like this and they’re so glad they’re not) are huge egocentric whiners, is my larger point, and I feel that is DOUBLY the point given that these same governments are giving no quarter to Hanukkah despite Cultural Christians thinking it’s the most important holiday given its proximity to Christmas. 

And my point with posting both of these things, even though…everyone in the notes is focusing on Quebec, I guess reading the second picture with the UK doing the same thing was a lot to ask, is that this is a larger problem. This idea that Christmas is a ~special time~ where pandemics magically do not exist simply because a lot of parents are anxious to lie about Santa to their children and kill grandma with the plague.

Also during Ramadan and Eid when the pandemic just started and most places didn’t even have any regulations yet all the news outlets jumped on framing Muslims as irresponsible and selfish for celebrating but now they are framing christians as completely rational for wanting to celebrate their holidays with family and loved ones.

Like seriously christians fuck off.
