Throwback to two years ago when Anchor switched from glass bottles to cans. Had to commemorate this bc those bottles were unlike any others; they had a unique feel and weight that I just liked for some reason. Now, when I hear that, after 127 years @anchorbrewing will be closing their doors, I had to go and find those pics. THROWBACK THURSDAY!!!! All the way back to this past November when we were in Austin for a wedding, we stopped off at @stelmobrewing for the first time! The area has changed so much from when I lived around the corner in the early 90s, back in my @universityoftexasaustin days. Wish all of this had been around when I was here! I may never have left!!! Both the indoor & outdoor space was great, and the beer wasn’t too shabby either! I had a flight and, while I really enjoyed their Juicy IPA Gary, but their 2022 Crosby IPA loaded with Strata was out of this world!!! Get down to Austin and check this place out!!! Hit the last L.A. bar on my old @draftmag Top 100 U.S. Beer Bars list last night, @mohawkla Got there for an early dinner so there wasn’t much of a crowd, but that just let me admire the physical space that much more. Housed in an old vaudeville theater, the place seems cozy, modern and welcoming all at the same time! Food was amazing and the all-California beer list was impressive. My pics of the fried chicken and quite possibly the best hummus I’ve ever had didn’t quite come out. Otherwise, I’d post them here. As for the beer, I had a @russianriverbrewingofficial Mosaic Stack (pictured) and a collab IPA between @beachwoodbrewing and @tonysdartsaway called… Wait for it… Darts Away! Both were delicious! Hit another Southern California brewery this past weekend, El Segundo Brewing. Didn’t know what to expect bc I’d never been to this town before and I’d only had their Broken Skull IPA before. I was BLOWN… AWAY!!! Not only by the brewery, but the town as well! It’s like a great little neighborhood that time forgot, right in the MIDDLE OF L.A.‘s sprawl… The brewery space was pretty cool. Would definitely make it a regular hangout if I lived in town… Which is MAYBE a slight possibility?!?!? Maybe? Who knows?!?!? Cheers from Torrance, CA and one of my favorite breweries, @monkishbrewing @occasionallynomadic and I were out this weekend, checking out possible locations for if and when we move here and I saw that Torrance was just around the corner! You KNOW I had to stop. Had a couple of INSANELY good beers, the 7.3% DDH Citra NEIPA Brainwaves Swell and the 10.2% Triple Dry Hoped Strata & Galaxy Triple IPA TDH Moonk. Wanted another, but knew that wouldn’t be a good move with a 40-minute drive ahead of me… THAT’S WHY I GOT TWO FOUR PACKS TO GO!!!! 🍻 I was only disappointed bc they were out of t-shirts and glassware. It’s THROWBACK THURSDAY LA-Style… Let me set the scene. It’s 2021. There’s a worldwide pandemic and your wife is involved with producing a HUGE live digital event for the video game industry and you get to be on the set… It WAS pretty amazing to be behind the scenes while they were broadcasting E3 2021. Met a lot of interesting people that week… And had a lot of great beer!!! Picked up this La Brea Stout by @eurekabrewco not only for the reference to the famous LA landmark (which WAS what caught my eye), but for the fact that it’s a 6% 🍫 and 🥥 stout! Happy National American Craft Beer Week from Malibu, CA!!! @brewmalibu wasn’t even on my radar as we were driving up the coast, but @occasionallynomadic saved the day and pointed out the spot! Cheers from @firestonewalker_propagator - my first brewery stop on this long trip to LA. This place has been on my list for years and it was everything I’d hoped it would be! Beautiful outdoor space in the California sunshine, amazing selection of beer (including taproom only beer), HUGE merch store and a pretty tasty-looking food menu. I ended up getting a flight of four IPAs and followed up with a couple of stouts; a 2022 Parabolita and a 2022 Let it Loose. So good on tap! It’s a sad THROWBACK THURSDAY today. Just got the news that @astrolabbrewing in Silver Spring, MD will be closing at the end of May. 😢 Living in Virginia, I didn’t get over to Silver Spring often enough to be a regular here, but I truly enjoyed it every time I did, including the time I went there with @novabrewjacket right as the pandemic was becoming a reality in March 2020… So, over the next three weeks, get out there to show them some love and drink up their beer, including their final creation, aptly named Astro Lab.
