Do you think that Marinette is a stalker?

I personally think that she can be a little bit creepy sometimes (and perhaps a little stalker-ish) but isn’t really a stalker.

She's a 14 year old girl on a comedy show. She's not a stalker or creepy. Again, her behavior is meant for comedy and makes kids laugh. Besides her feelings have been shown time and time again to be genuine. Some folks just don't get the humor of it and that's fine just maybe this isn't the right show for them

I was more cringe tbh. People who think they would do what Mari does if they were in a cartoon are lying.

I reiterate: it's a comedy show.

Not everyone find the same thing funny. And that's fine. I just don't see the need in calling a 14 year old fictional character a stalker because you don't find it funny

Tacking my own experience on to this because I started to think about my own self more and how I was at that age. I can say with a lot of certainty that I did some equally “stalker-ish” things regarding a boy I liked. I was in a similar situation where he was popular and cute but we had been friends first and my feelings were genuine towards him.

I only really started acting out after a friend found out and told him in front of the whole class humiliating me, then my other friends encouraged my bad behavior and habits.

Girls about middle school aged are still developing and going through a lot of changes in their brains and bodies, being infatuated with a boy is the last thing they need the be shamed for.

We’ve seen instances before where some of the things Marinette has done have had consequences and I also had some too for similar behaviors or situations. We openly excuse boys for being mean to girls and chasing after them on the playground as them showing affection but shame young girls who show affection through keeping pictures and eavesdropping on conversations and trying to be places at the same time as the other person.

Also, to reiterate Bushy’s point again: it’s a kids show and it’s trying to be funny, you and I both see the silly little ways Mari creeps around trying not to be seen, they exaggerate for entertainment. This is the same universe where this character is being put in charge of essentially saving the world, give her a break to be weird and cringy like most 14 year olds these days.

Re folks excusing boys for being mean to girls on the playground as them having a crush: I wonder what the venn diagram looks like for folks that say Mari is a stalker and also that Felix would be a better protag than Adrien hmmmm

okay okay so. here's my thing. catwalker was not actually that different from chat noir, because adrien is still adrien no matter what form he takes. adrien did not construct an entirely new personality for catwalker, he just presented more as how he presents as adrien: as a more reserved version of his same kind, loyal, brave, respectful self. (these are qualities that are fundamental to adrien as a character, which he stays true to no matter what form he takes.) catwalker was functionally chat noir minus most of the theatrics. (I say most because--come on, he spent like ten minutes rolling around in the grass meowing. he delivered ladybug's yo-yo to her with a deep bow. his name was a pun. theatrics are also kind of fundamental to adrien.) catwalker operated very similarly to chat noir during the battle; he offered input on ladybug's plans, encouraged her when she put herself down, acted as a reliable partner during the fight. you can't tell me that catwalker's "now it's my turn to take care of you" that got ladybug blushing was not just a rephrasing of the same sentiment chat noir has offered to her a million times before.

the only substantial difference between catwalker and chat noir was that marinette was assured that catwalker was not and would not ever be in love with her. this is the only thing she actually asked for, the only problem she identified. she told plagg that the new chat noir had to be someone who couldn't fall in love with her, and plagg gave her that assurance. she didn't care about the puns or the goofiness or any of the other stuff plagg said had to go, she just wanted this one obstacle removed. and once this obstacle was removed (and thus the possibility that if she returned his feelings, the world would end,) she began falling for him instantly. not because he was fundamentally a different person, but because the knowledge that nothing would ever come of it allowed marinette to finally feel her feelings without the weight of the apocalypse on her back. the reason why marinette needs chat noir to not be in love with her is because, deep down, she knows she is already in love with him.

When will people learn that saying "this season has bad writing cause they don't care about Adrien" and "I'm not salting on Adrien I just want him to be happy again" and all these things that imply that him being sad is BAD and he needs to be happy to be a fun character is invalidating as all hell????

Like essentially you're saying that the only worth he has is the comfort you find in him being happy sunshine funny boy?

Or that he doesn't have enough screentime but the reality is he has had the most character development screentime of any season but he's show emotions and so its bad because he's not happy all of the time

And its incredibly invalidating because as someone who always bottles her feelings up and is depressed like 75% of the time seeing a character do it on screen and isolate himself and hide his feelings is legitimately making me realize the way I do it and helping me want to change. But then seeing someone go he's too sad makes me revert back thinking oh i gotta be positive or no one will like me

And I guarantee there is someone in you're life doing the same things as he is and you would never tell them to stop being sad.

Please let this boy be sad.

Don't say the writers are being bullies for making him sad. Because no, they're not. They're making him more human. The way I see some folks acting is the way Gabe acts with the need to make his son be perfect. Don't be Gabe folks.

It's different if you say the show has writing inconsistencies because there are but people keep forgetting the season isn't over and they're setting things up and you watched out of order in a language you didn't understand and just please stop and just wait especially on my posts It's so dumb

Don't call it bad writing when we don't even know what the build up is leading to.

Mostly I'm just upset that I've never seen Adrien feel anything other than sad about his dad.

It has been four seasons.

I want him to get irritated. I want him to feel betrayed. I want him to feel anger. I want him to get spiteful. I want to see rebellion. I want to see him doubt his anger.

I'm upset that there's never a honeymoon phase with Gabriel. There's never a brief apology.

I want Adrien to go through the phases of anger and doubt and betrayl and spite and rebellion.

I want a more accurate portrayl of the cycle of abuse.

I lived it. I want to see it done right.

I'm upset that the show dedicates so much time to Adrien's sad boy hours but never does anything with that plotline.

He deserves to be mad at his dad. Even for just a while.

@lordmushroomkat With all due respect, Adrien still doesn't know he's being abused.

But this season, he's starting to learn.

He may have already started. I have been thinking that episode 5 might have included something that made Adrien rethink his interactions with his dad.

I am going to make a post on this probably after Kuro Neko, but there's been a drastic shift this season in the way Adrien interacts with his Dad.

Compare Chat Blanc where Adrien tried to seek his dad out to show off an award with Adrien in Glaciator 2.0 where his dad actually wanted to talk to Adrien (which, remember, that's literally what Adrien has wanted for the first 3 seasons). But instead of telling his dad about his feelings, Adrien gave him the cold shoulder.

Similar acts of defiance came up in Mega Leech, and yes it's subtle but it has to start.

All I'm saying is the sad boy is leading to something. This season isn't over yet. Adrien's arc isn't over yet. Visual media is different from written. You cannot go and flat out say "Adrien is depressed and abused and has trauma" because it would make for poor storytelling. No one would believe it, critics would come out and say "Where are the signs????"

So since they can't say it, they have to show it. Gradually and with lots of subtley. They've been setting this up for Adrien since season 1 (and again I'm going to write this I just want to get a trailer for Psychomedian and see Kuro Neko first to confirm things). You have to set it up through story telling and visual cues so that the audience can see it, especially when it's aimed at a younger audience who isn't going to fully understand the weight of the words "abuse".

It's about showing, not telling.

And the season is not over yet. Let's wait and see where this is all leading. I have a feeling this is Adrien BIG arc that might continue on to Season 5. But he will get the closure he needs.

And sometimes the journey is even more important than the result. Because the journey is where we really learn to heal. And Adrien will, just like all of us can.

The easiest analogy I can think of is a cult.

Gabriel has shaped and constructed Adrien’s perception of the world since his inception. He has carefully curated the available streams of information to ensure his absolute control. It wouldn’t be far-fetched to assume Adrien has had contact with a dozen people at best—and was actually close to less than a handful.

Gabriel has had a decade and a half to influence Adrien’s physical/emotional/psychological development—to ingrain himself as Adrien’s inner voice.

Gabriel is his internal compass. He doesn’t even need to be physically present to inflict punishment. Every minor mistake Adrien makes will be internally reprimanded. His father’s presence—the guilt—it’s constant.

The hyper-vigilance is always at work—which is the main reason why he can’t come forward to Ladybug with his grievances and hurt. He’s afraid of the backlash, the disappointment, losing her, the ring. He’s grown to expect a disproportionate response. A mistake feels like The Worst Thing Ever™—which is why he has been so quick to renounce Plagg in the past. Partially out of guilt. Partially a defense mechanism—stripping that freedom/privilege is surely less painful if you do it yourself, right?

How many times has Gabriel threatened to remove him from school? The number of times he’s actually revoked Adrien’s freedom? Or barred his friends from even stepping on the Agreste property? Gabriel is not actually concerned about the supposed “bad influences”.

It’s a control tactic.

Outsiders threaten his grip on Adrien’s perception/warped view of himself and the world. That’s why he was so reluctant to let Adrien attend public school—and why he embraced Lila’s offer of alliance. Nino has canonically called the man a control freak.

It’s not protection. It’s calculated isolation. It makes victims easier to control—especially when you’re their only source of emotional support.

Gabriel’s doses of affection may seem random and inconsistent, but they’re carefully measured. Starve Adrien of emotional/physical contact so he will bend over backwards to get a drop—but the moment he comes to, pulls away, acts rebellious—you placate him with a hug and the words of affirmation he desperately yearns for.

In short, Adrien is in the process of de-programming. Gabriel’s illusion has been slowly cracking over the past few seasons.

Cardcaptor Sakura Clear Card Chapter 51: Comments + JP-ENG translation differences

Welcome back, everyone!

This last month the wait has been so much more bearable, both because for Chapter 50 we had to wait 2 long months, so this is nothing compared to that, but also because February is the shortest month! 😂

A short notice before starting: there’s a big translation mistake in the ENG version of chapter 51, this time around. It involves a character’s true name, so please, spread the word because this is going to make the fandom REALLY confused.

Let’s not delay any further because there’s LOTS to unpack in this chapter. What happened might seem “little”, but actually in terms of exploration on the psychological side of the characters, there’s a lot to talk about. We often say that many things are a mystery in this manga, and at times it becomes even frustrating, but if we actually stop to analyze the emotions and inner turmoil of the characters, we can actually get so much more out of it. So relax with me, and embrace all the emotions this chapter will give to us!

Sakura didn’t think much about how she was wearing Syaoran’s shirt. She just needed something to wear after falling into the stream. Even when his cousin shows up, looking pissed that she’s wearing it, she still isn’t understanding.

It’s especially confusing when she’s kicked out along with Tomoyo, sitting outside the apartment building puzzled.

“..What was that about, Tomoyo-chan?”

Tomoyo shrugs, standing up. She holds out her hand to Sakura to help her up. “His cousin is very passionate, isn’t she?”

Sakura nods, looking down at the shirt. Was it really something to get so upset over?

It’s 4:10am and I’m going to write a meta about the special!!!! Dammit!!!

Not sure where to start because I have Many Thoughts but I’ll start with this: I don’t think Adrien and Kagami are officially together yet; it’s like, they know they like each other but are dating to see if it’ll work. I can’t imagine Adrien looking at Marinette Like That when he officially has a girlfriend… It just wouldn’t make sense. I’m pretty sure he’d dedicate himself for the full 100% and he didn’t do that this ep (to Kagami at least)

Next point: it seems that he’s truly over Ladybug now; the yellow rose was a big indicator and how he behaved towards her was with the same respect and adoration as before but that pedestal-effect is gone (and can I just say I’ve come to love CN with my entire heart what a SWEETIE and a GOOD BOY)

The ending of his feelings for Ladybug have opened the way to something else… actual feelings for Marinette. I mean this moment was super funny bc he was talking about the fuckn toilet paper but you can’t tell me he also meant it in that way:

“You’ve got something, Marinette.” And the whole monologue before that, describing her good qualities. It’s like, “I’m here, I’m finally seeing you.” He’s SO grateful for what she did that he spends the entire episode showing her how happy he is to be with her!!! It’s so fricking obvious I can’t handle it!!! Don’t even get me started on the thousand heart eyes he sent her and the moment he dances with her in the moonlight??? Basically every move came from him, since Marinette is trying so hard to get over him

Which brings me to the next point: Marinette has been smitten with Adrien for years and the realisation that he likes/liked/is starting to like Kagami of course broke her heart but it’s not like she can get over him in an instant. And he’s making it very hard for her to get over him, heh… It’s not like he knew about her feelings so it’s not like he’s toying with her. Anyway, Luka (my babe) is prepared to be there for her and wait for her until she’s officially over Adrien, but knows she isn’t yet. Of course Marinette adores Luka but just… the difference between her behaviour towards Luka and towards Adrien makes it so obvious that nope, all her feelings are still directed at Adrien.

And honestly, if Adrien fell in love with Marinette in this ep (he may have, since he’s obviously over Ladybug and he was just all over her with his gentlemanliness and sweetness and kindness and those SMILES alright (or he already was, what I personally believe, he just doesn’t realise it yet)), Marinette won’t have to get over him and be hurt over Adrien’s coming relationship with Kagami… I personally would be sad if Mari forced herself to get over Adrien and the two wouldn’t like each other even a bit romantically before those feelings returned full force–but that’s just what I think. As this ep showed, her feelings for Adrien really are That powerful; she even said she loved him there on the asphalt.

Anyway, no matter where this is going, it’s super interesting! I don’t dislike the LadyNoir friendship-and-super-strong-trusting-partnership; it fits them better than one of the two being unrequitedly in love and it takes away the pedestal CN has placed LB on. He’s ready to fall in love with someone else now

here i am, yet again, to ramble about my dumb son and his feelings for the one and only: marinette.

we left off the previous part talking about how important marinette is to adrien, and how he always wants her happiness and can’t stand to see her hurt. i’ll start this part with something a bit different, but that i love dearly about this dynamic, and i don’t see it mentioned very often…

buckle up because this one is by far the longest… and also the final one! let’s go!
