This is the “cover” for the current work I’m doing for National Novel Writing Month (incidentally the thing I am procrastinating doing by updating my tumblr).  The picture in the background is one I took ages ago.  The artwork of the ladies is a hybrid of some free line art I found on Deviant Art a while ago (Megumi (dark-brown hair) is from wowauwero.deviantart.com and Dani (lighter brown hair) is from salamandershadow.deviantart.com).  The coloring job for better or worse is mine.  One of my current goals for 2023 is to work on my own skills to  a point where I can actually do updated drawings of these two.

Hers and My Romance was a concept I came up with probably about seven years ago.  I’ve been stuck in a rut with my writing since around December of last year (for various reasons--2021 for reference being last year) so to try to get my juices flowing again I decided to go outside of my writing comfort zone and do a contemporary romance.

Here’s a quick blurb for the story, it should be noted that everything is subject to change as Nanowrimo is for spewing words all over the page then worrying about how to make them all make a pretty picture later ^_^

If you’d told Megumi Tanaka two years ago that she’d be falling in love with her new favorite fan fiction author she would’ve laughed and told you to go get a life. However, lo and behold, after two years of enforced solitude due to a worldwide pandemic, Megumi finds herself in that exact place. Over the course of the pandemic, Megumi discovered a lot of things and one of those things was that ‘Yuki Seki’ a popular author she found on her favorite fan fiction site was cute and adorable and if it was possible to fall in love with just words and the soul behind them (or the perceived soul) she was doing exactly that.

If you’d told Megumi that the fan fiction author was actually her upstairs neighbor, Dani Taylor, she would have laughed even harder. After all, the world isn’t that small, is it?

It turns out that yes indeed the world is that small and it was sheer happenstance that she found out. After a few months of video chats, Megumi discovers that Dani also lives in Arizona and, on a chance she’d actually say yes, Megumi asked Dani to meet her for sushi as a birthday present. They have a magnificent time, or so Megumi thought, but after their meeting Dani vanishes off the face of the internet and stops answering her calls and e-mails. Megumi is left lost and broken-hearted; she seriously thought they made a connection, but apparently Dani didn’t feel the same.

Then Megumi gets a Skype message from Dani apologizing for the ghosting—on the exact same day that she meets a familiar brunette coming down the steps from the apartment above her and it changes everything.

It turns out that the Dani behind the screen is a very different individual than the “Yuki Seki” Megumi thought she knew. Offline Dani is still cute and adorable and Megumi finds she absolutely adores her, but she is also a complex human being with vulnerabilities Megumi never expected.

Getting Restarted

Hello and Welcome to the beginning of my revamping of this particular blog ^_^

Currently stuck home sick with the flu (thankfully not COVID or as I have seen it referred to as “spicy cough”) and what better way to procrastinate on all the words I should be writing for National Novel Writing Month than revamping my blogs and stuff. (Why yes I should be writing now--but I am actually caught up so far today...just not to my Reverse Nanowrimo Goal of 25k).

I’ll be moving hard away from most Star Wars content (like many others in the Reylo Fandom TRoS killed me a little bit, but I refuse to be hypocritical and spew vitriol over it) and on to other things that are currently more important to me.  I did try and move on with The Mandalorian and Baby Yoda (Grogu), but I just kinda drifted away from the fandom entirely--I haven’t watched Book of Boba Fett, Obi-Wan, Andor, or whatever else happens to be out.  This isn’t to say that I won’t at some point in the future, but at this point it’s the FAR future.

As you may or may not know I’m a writer (you can find me on FB, Twitter, & Instagram @Myriai), but I also have many a varied interests beyond writing including animé, manga, Dungeons & Dragons (deities above I am HARD on that D & D train right now), reading, attempting to learn to draw, and bullet journaling.  These are the topics you’re likely to see come up from me more than anything else.  I am also the writer/storyboard artist for a webcomic called Kitakaze no Yakusoku//Promise of the North Wind (https://kitakazenoyakusoku.the-comic.org/) and I will be shamelessly promoting that here as well.  In the 2nd Quarter of 2023 (maybe 3rd depending on what happens) I will be starting up a YouTube channel--more details on that will be coming as I get things ironed out.

I feel like if I decide to come back to Tumblr, I am going to have to do some major housekeeping...like switching topics, templates, and the rest of it, but it may just be easier to figure out how to nuke this and start something new.  We’ll see.

Hiatus ‘til TRoS

I’m going social media dark from when I leave for work tomorrow until Friday at 2 AM (after my 10 PM showing of TRoS).  I’m thinking about seeing if I can write a fic with all my free time not spent scrolling through my feeds >.>

The voice behind her was deep and raspy and Rey turned.

“Kylo Ren is dead,” she stated quietly. “Long live Ben Solo.”

Ben watched the burning hulk of his ship. The body of one of the Knights of Ren burned in the cockpit wearing the helmet of the Supreme Leader with its crimson lines.

“Let’s finish this,” he finally said.

“Let’s finish it,” Rey agreed.

The two turned as one towards the remains of the Death Star where the Emperor waited.

One of these will be my bullet journal for next month... just haven’t decided which one. The holidays are great, but have you ever felt the excitement (& sadness) that a large inspiration in your life is going to be coming to an end on December 20th? It will of course live on in memory & will likely remain on rotation, but there will not be another Skywalker movie & Carrie Fisher will not be in any movies after this...

I’ll be here...I am also contemplating another go at SW fan fic...just not sure yet...I want a 52 chapter story that will post weekly that will start from the week Dec 20 2018 and the last chapter will post Dec 19 2019... ...just have to come up with an idea and get the first several chapters written in about two and a half weeks...

Update Schedule Change

Due to life.  Updates to The Brightest Light will be moving a to a biweekly schedule with the next update being on September 24th.  There are some important things going down on this side of the screen that need to take priority over my fan fiction for the time being (at least through January 2019).

The Brightest Light (AO3) has been updated (a week late, but I was at a con then RL kinda sucked), but at least it’s updated.  This is not going to go the way I thought it was...but that may not be a bad thing.

I feel like I’m mostly writing this for myself, which I guess isn’t a bad thing, but I feel like I’m not measuring up somehow and that is not good for me (but I’m still going to finish the damn thing).
