Pursuit of dreams: ONE YEAR LEFT
In just a little over one year, I will be leaving Belgium for an internship abroad in order to graduate as a bachelor in Tourism and Leisure Management.
Since I have started tourism I have always dreamt of doing this internship in the USA. This country is the reason I love traveling, tourism, culture and nature. (Will post a more thorough explanation later) I am on the verge of applying to a travel agency in Los Angeles that embodies the values I carry in my heart. I remember feeling overjoyed when I found they had an open position.
But, before crashing in to this adventure I tried calculating what kind of budget I would need to make my dream come true. Turns out I need a small fortune, which I don’t really have. I have been working weekends for years and saved up most of what I earned. ( Plus, my parents insist on not blowing all of my savings on an internship, which makes sense). So my own funds only get me so far.
My parents will contribute something (and I will be forever grateful for this!) but still it will not be enough to cover all expenses. On top of that:
I can not get a scholarship (that I am aware of. I anyone knows one I might be eligible for please let me know!).
I have had heated arguments with friends and family about how this dream is not worth pursuing. (”just go on vacation there”, “you’ll be so far away, all alone”). Yesterday my mother straight up told me this wasn’t going to work out, ever and I should give up on my plans.

So I will start, and I will go. I have decided this is what I want.
I am writing this here because I have no one left to turn to that will support me and I have the incredible urge to tell my story to whomever wants to listen. Also, any and every advice anyone may have is greatly appreciated.
