Chester & Terry

I thought I wrote too much about Alfie and Cherry, but this is ridiculous... Anyone who reads all this deserves an award and a kiss on the forehead from me.

1. Are they talkative?

Chester isn't particularly talkative, but he can hold a conversation about almost anything. If an awkward silence settles over the room, he is usually the first to break it. If someone seems nervous or anxious, he'll naturally start a conversation. He has a quiet talent for making people open up without even realizing they're doing it. At first glance, Terry seems like a man of few words. He understands that, as the alpha, he sets the tone for the entire pack. If he starts acting carefree or immature, the others may stop seeing him as someone they can rely on. Because of that, he's often much more reserved around Cherry, Toby, and the younger werewolves. He can joke around, but he rarely allows himself to be completely carefree. But the moment Chester is around... He becomes surprisingly talkative. He can spend an hour telling Chester about something ridiculous that happened on the construction site, or enthusiastically ramble about the romance novel he just finished reading.

2. Is their voice quiet or loud?

Chester's voice is quiet, calm, and slightly tired, as if he's always saving energy even while speaking. He rarely raises his voice, and even his jokes are delivered with the same steady tone. He may speak louder after drinking blood, at such moments he has more energy and becomes more expressive. Or when he's VERY angry. Terry's voice is deep, rough, and slightly raspy. He never needs to raise it, people naturally listen when he speaks. But when he's talking to Chester, something changes. His voice softens almost imperceptibly. It doesn't become quieter or higher, just… gentler.

3. Do they have unusual speech patterns?

Chester enjoys using dry and dark humor. Sometimes he responds to obvious stupidity in a completely serious tone. In a dangerous situation, when everyone is scared, he can joke something like: "Well, it's good that I'm already dead." He often swears, especially when angry. Terry sometimes speaks in old-fashioned tone, as if he were 20 years older, so that's why Cherry jokingly calls him Dad.

4. Do they have an accent or dialect?

Both have Texan-American accents. Although Terry was born in Ireland, he has no Irish accent at all. His father brought him to Texas when Terry was still a baby.

5. Do they like to sing? Are they good at it?

Both of them do, and they're actually pretty good. As a child, Chester sang in his local church choir. As adults, they became regulars at the karaoke nights in a small local bar. Sometimes they'd perform old country songs together, sometimes classic rock, 70s pop, and every now and then Chester would convince Terry to sing a cheesy love song just to watch him pretend he wasn't enjoying himself.

6. Left handed, right handed, ambidextrous?

Both right handed.

7. Neat or messy hand writing?

Chester's handwriting is small and neat. He writes slowly, forming each letter almost automatically. In the past, when he was still human, he worked in the local police's office and had to fill out a lot of paperwork. Since he often has to take notes, or leave reminders around the house, he'll even use different colored pens for little notes or household instructions, making everything easy to follow. Terry's handwriting looks a lot like Terry himself. Large, bold, and confident.

8. Do they draw/paint a lot?

Not really. The closest Terry gets is sketching simple plans or measurements for something he wants to build, like a piece of furniture. Chester, absentmindedly doodles while talking on the phone or thinking. His notebooks sometimes end up covered with tiny scribbles, stars, flowers, or random geometric patterns. He never does it on purpose, it just helps keep his hands busy while his mind is elsewhere.

9. Are they good or bad at making handicrafts?

Chester, enjoys small, delicate work. He's the one who sews a missing button, neatly patches a torn sleeve, carefully repairs the spine of an old book, or patiently glues together a vintage vase that Cherry accidentally knocked off a shelf. He has incredible amount of patience for things most people would simply throw away. Terry is a skilled builder and carpenter. The old house the pack lives in was practically falling apart when they first moved in, and he restored most of it himself. He replaced the roof, repaired the floors, installed new windows, and even built the back terrace overlooking the trees. His work isn't fancy or decorative, but it's solid, reliable, and built to last.

10. Do they need their hands occupied a lot? If so, what do they do?

They're both happiest when they're keeping themselves busy, though not because they can't sit still. They simply enjoy feeling productive and making themselves useful. Terry is always building or repairing something around the house. Chester is usually cooking, mending clothes, organizing or taking care of little things everyone else overlooks. They rarely leave a task unfinished if they know they can handle it themselves. That said, neither of them struggles with simply slowing down. They can spend hours completely absorbed in a good book without saying a word to each other. Terry is also perfectly happy to disappear for an afternoon with nothing but a fishing rod, sitting alone by a lake and listening to the water, the wind, and the birds. When they're sitting together on the couch, watching a movie or simply talking, Chester almost always ends up reaching for Terry's hand. Not because he needs to hold onto it. He simply starts absentmindedly tracing his thumb over Terry's rough, calloused palm, feeling the old scars, the hardened skin, the marks left by years of construction work. He does it completely without thinking. And Terry does the same. At some point, without interrupting the conversation or taking his eyes off the movie, he'll simply turn his hand over and weave their fingers together, carrying on as if nothing special had happened.

11. What's their favorite food/least favorite food?

Terry loves simple, home-cooked meals. Nothing fancy. After a twelve-hour shift on a construction site, he just wants food that actually fills him up. Some of his favorites include rare steak, smoked ribs, Irish stew, homemade bread fresh out of the oven, apple pie, and goat cheese from Cherry's parents' farm. Before becoming a vampire, Chester loved cooking just as much as Terry loved eating. They used to spend summer evenings in Texas grilling in the backyard, making big pots of stew, or baking fresh bread together. After his transformation, food lost almost all meaning. He could no longer taste it, and even familiar smells seemed strangely distant. For a while, cooking only reminded him of everything he'd lost. Eventually, though, he realized he didn't have to enjoy the food himself to enjoy making it. Now, he cooks because it makes the people he loves happy, especially Terry. Watching him come home exhausted, sit down at the table, and genuinely enjoy a meal is enough to make all the effort worthwhile. As a vampire, the only thing that truly nourishes Chester is blood. Most vampires consider werewolf blood unpleasant. Too wild, almost "impure" by their standards. Chester struggled with it at first as well. It took time for his instincts to accept it. Now, however, Terry's blood tastes incredibly rich and nourishing to him, even more satisfying than human blood. But if we're talking about the most extraordinary thing he ever tasted... Once, Bunny let him try unicorn blood. To this day, it's the single most incredible thing he ever experienced.

12. Are they a picky eater?

Chester was never a picky eater. As a vampire, his diet is obviously much more limited, but he still isn't particularly selective. Working hospital security gives him legal access to donated blood, and over time he's learned to tell which blood is fresher or of better quality with remarkable accuracy. Even so, he'll drink whatever is available as long as it was obtained legally. Terry will happily eat almost anything. If someone made it with care, he'll appreciate the effort regardless of whether it's perfect. Too salty, slightly burnt, or a little too sweet... it doesn't really matter to him. He hates wasting food and was raised to be grateful for what's on his plate. If someone cooked for him, the last thing he'd do is complain.

13. Any food they avoid for reasons other than taste?

Chester avoids all food. As a vampire, he simply can't digest it anymore. Terry doesn't really avoid any food, though he's skeptical of anything overly fancy or experimental. He'd always choose a hearty home-cooked meal over fine dining.

14. How are their table manners?

Terry likes to eat slowly, taking his time and actually enjoying every bite. When everyone is gathered around the table, he'll happily join in the conversation, but most of the time he prefers to eat quietly and enjoy the meal. He also makes a point of complimenting Chester's cooking, usually more than once. Chester usually sits at the table simply for the company. He'll talk, listen to everyone else's stories, and enjoy being part of the meal even though he isn't eating. He normally avoids drinking blood at the dinner table so he doesn't put anyone else off their food. If he does drink it, he can pour it into a glass and treat it almost like a regular drink. But usually he has something like strong black coffee or plain black tea. Always without milk or sugar.

15. Do they rather eat too much or too little?

Terry eats a lot. As a werewolf, just like Cherry, he needs a huge amount of calories. After a long day at the construction site, he can easily eat a dinner that would be enough for two people. The same goes for days when he spends hours running in his wolf form with the rest of the pack. After that, he's absolutely ravenous. When Chester was human, he tended to eat relatively little and had always been quite thin. After becoming a vampire, things became much darker. For a long time, he deliberately starved himself because of the guilt he felt over what he'd become. Over time, though, things changed. With the support of the pack, Terry, and connections he'd made with other vampires, Chester eventually gained reliable access to plenty of blood. His job as a hospital security guard also gives him access to donated blood. These days, he no longer deprives himself.

16. Do they prefer to eat alone or with company?

Together. Especially Terry. After a hard day, it's important for him to see everyone at the same table.

17. Are they good at cooking?

Chester is easily the best cook in the house. Not because he knows a thousand recipes, but because he understands people. Nobody really complains about his cooking, in fact, most meals end with completely empty plates, but Chester knows exactly what everyone likes. After all, a happy pack is a peaceful pack. And a well-fed pack is much less likely to tear the house apart in a fit of hunger. Terry can cook basic meals. He especially enjoys cooking outdoors, much like Alfie, but given the choice, Terry would rather let someone else cook. He's spent all his life in situations where someone else happened to take care of the food. First his aunt, then various girlfriends, and eventually Chester.

18. Morning person or night owl?

Terry is definitely a morning person. Even if he goes to bed late, his body will still wake him up around six or seven in the morning. Even on his days off, he'll wake up early, make himself a strong cup of coffee, and sit out on the back terrace for a while, enjoying the quiet and the cool morning air before starting his day. Chester, on the other hand, has always been more of a night owl, and becoming a vampire only reinforced that. He has worked night shifts, first as a police officer, then in the pub, and now at the hospital as a guard, so night time has become natural for him. He's more alert, energetic, and comfortable after dark.

19. Easy to fall asleep or insomniac?

Terry usually falls asleep pretty easily. His physical work leaves him exhausted by the end of the day, so once his head hits the pillow, he's usually out within minutes. But sometimes he likes to spend at least an hour reading one of his favorite novels before bed. He'll already be fighting sleep, rereading the same paragraph three times, yet stubbornly refuse to put the book down until he finishes the chapter. Chester is more prone to insomnia. After a night shift, especially when he's alone in bed, he can spend a long time tossing and turning before finally falling asleep. His mind tends to stay awake long after his body is tired. But he's noticeably calmer when Terry is beside him, he sleeps much more peacefully when he can feel Terry's warmth beside him.

20. Light or heavy sleepers?

Both of them are very light sleepers. Years of living as supernatural beings, and being responsible for a house full of young werewolves, have made them extremely sensitive to their surroundings. The smallest unusual sound can wake them up. A door slamming too hard, footsteps on the stairs, something falling in the kitchen... Usually, it's just Cherry dropping something at three in the morning. But their senses are especially sharp when it comes to what's happening outside the house. They can hear something approaching the property. A strange set of footsteps, movement among the trees, or someone lingering outside can be enough to wake them instantly. They're both the kind of people who can go from completely asleep to fully alert in seconds.

22. Are they used to sleeping around others or alone?

Terry is very used to sleeping around other people. He's never really lived completely alone. He grew up in his aunt's small house, later shared homes with various girlfriends, and now lives with Chester and the rest of the pack. Chester had almost the opposite experience. He moved out of his parents' home fairly young, partly because his family was problematic and he hated having to share a room with his older brothers. After that, he spent many years living alone. His romantic relationships with women never really worked out, although there was an obvious reason for that: he had been secretly in love with Terry for almost all his life and couldn't bring himself to admit it, terrified that doing so might destroy their friendship. Now that he's with Terry, Chester has mixed feelings about living in a house full of people. One part of him would love to have a quiet home where it's just the two of them. But after so many years surrounded by Terry and the pack, he's become so accustomed to having people around that the idea of living completely alone in a huge, silent house feels almost... wrong.

23. Do they snore?

Terry... sometimes. And when he does, he can be surprisingly loud. Cherry once described it as: "Sounds like a diesel engine." Terry, naturally, denies this every single time. Chester never snores. In fact, he barely makes any sound at all when he sleeps. As a vampire, he's technically undead, or almost dead. His organs function extremely slowly compared to those of a living human. His heartbeat is much slower and weaker, and when he's asleep, he barely breathes. Combine that with his naturally low body temperature, and Chester can look disturbingly corpse-like when he's sleeping.

24. Other sleeping habits?

Terry:

Terry always checks the area around the house before going to bed. It's an alpha's responsibility.

He reads before sleep. Sometimes, if he's especially tired, he'll ask Chester to read to him instead. Chester's quiet, steady voice has always been strangely soothing to him.

When he's asleep, Terry often pulls Chester closer without even realizing he's doing it. The only problem is that Chester can be very cold. Sometimes Terry wakes up because his boyfriend feels like a block of ice against him. He'll pull the blanket tighter around them, and stubbornly refuse to admit that the cold bothers him.

Chester:

Chester also likes reading before bed, although he's much more likely to do it when Terry is reading beside him.

He also loves spending a long time in a hot bath before going to sleep. The warmth helps counteract his naturally low body temperature and makes it much easier for him to relax afterward.

He usually sleeps in thick, warm pajamas, or Terry's old shirts.

And occasionally, particularly when the house happens to be empty, Terry will feed him some of his blood before they go to bed. It gives Chester an extra boost of energy and lets them spend some private time together. It's not that they're embarrassed about the pack hearing them. It's just that, sometimes, the noises coming from their bedroom can get rather loud. Even Cherry, who is hardly innocent himself, is forced to turn up the volume on his headphones to drown out the moans.
