Guideau’s way of speaking and their development
Due to the language barrier, some details about the characters’ way of speaking were lost in the English translation. I will just list them below with overall vibes, since my English is not that good to explain them right…
Ashaf: 「俺 ー お前」 (Ore - Omae): Informal/ Familiar. Guideau: 「オレ ー テメェ」 (Ore - Temee): Grumpy/ Masculine. Johan: 「俺 ー お前」 (Ore - Omae): Informal/ Familiar. Phanora: 「あたし ー あんた」 (Atashi - Anta): Soft/ Feminine.
Guideau has always called everyone “temee” since the beginning. Which is an extremely rude way to addressing people, usually no one would talk like that in most situations.
In chapter 33, we can see how Guideau slowly, but surely has begun to change. They showed trust in Ashaf, started to call him “omae” - a more casually, less roughly way for the first time ever.
In chapter 35, after being suddenly approached by Ashaf, they called him “temee” again for this time. I think that showed how Guideau was not ready to learn what “love” is yet. Both of them surely have a long way to go… (Guideau still calls others “omae” in recently chapters, but I’m not sure what about Ashaf since they don’t use personal pronoun that much).

helloooo! many thanks for recommending about the witch and the beast, the art is just goooorgeous and i love guideau nd ashaf. speaking of which i wanted your opinion bc i want to know what you think about ashafs "i want to teach you what love is"? hehe smh i ship them bc i love how the way they act with each other can be seen as flirty but i think it's very bold of ashaf to say that so what do you think is intended behind these words? many thanks, love your blog xx
Hey Anon! Aww, thanks for giving this series a try! It's way too underrated and deserves a bigger fandom!! :))
Anyway, I’m going to ramble a bit here but about this scene:
As much as I agree with you that a lot of Ashaf and Guideau’s interactions border on innuendo on purpose (and I love it, damn Sensei), I honestly think that Ashaf’s “lesson” might be in relation to...
...Guideau breaking the curse. I mean, we all know that the second method will never work, considering that Angela seems completely unhinged and proved to be enjoying the situation she put Guideau in very much. Just like we know that the third method (a witch’s kiss) is temporary, so that only leaves the first method which, in my opinion, could be a metaphor about finding love?
You know, as in, loving someone who loves you back as who you truly are, thus breaking the curse? This could be Ashaf’s ultimate goal that he addresses in this scene. ¯¯\_(ツ)_/¯¯
Not gonna lie though, Ashaf is very mysterious, even more so than Guideau. I don’t know what he’s hiding exactly, but...
...I think his bond to Guideau has a very plot-relevant explanation (the guy casted a spell onto his own mind in order to mechanize it, so he could attack Dunward and get Guideau back, I mean ??? I doubt it’s just affection, there has to be another reason).
For now, I believe that it might be because Guideau’s existence (both original body and curse) is somewhat extraordinary and has implications for the plot and universe that we have yet to understand.
Still, I also believe that Ashaf truly wants to help Guideau with figuring out a way around the curse, which again might explain why he mentioned wanting to teach Guideau about love and why Angela...
...didn’t seem to want risking an encounter with Ashaf, all powerful that she is.
In other words, do I ship it? Hell yeah. As @grelleswife said there is something so deliberately bi-coded about them that I just can’t get enough of their push-and-pull (read: Guideau threatening to kill him idk how many times) dynamic even if I believe that Ashaf is shady and might be expecting something out of Guideau that we don’t get quite yet. xD
Additionally, thanks to @flycat999, we know that Guideau is starting, very slowly, to open up and to trust Ashaf more (addressing him less aggressively in the recent arc), so who knows just how intricately Ashaf will be related to Guideau learning about love. ;)
I hope I answered your question, Anon! Thanks for the kind words by the way! Have a nice day! ^3^

Oh Man, I have to make an account just to shout out how I'm freaking love this ship

Guideau and Ashaf are making me feral. She WILL kill him the moment she doesn't need him or he's more trouble than he's worth. And he's just like, "yeah, that's fine. You're more important to me than my own life anyway."
Edit: Important detail I forgot. Despite the fact Guideau can and would kill Ashaf with her bare hands, this does not stop him from purposefully antagonizing her. He's not some passive you can kill me it's fine, he's got a pathological need to prove he's the smartest person in the room and does so via trolling. She tolerates this only because he really is that smart and therefore useful.

Guideau & Ashaf (Part 1) The Witch and the Beast (2016 - )
Ashaf as a First Class Mage
One thing I absolutely love about Ashaf's character is that it takes for the plot to move on a bit for readers to notice that, like Guideau, he's also high game.
That's done very smoothly and efficiently, because the story at first naturally tends to focus on introducing Guideau as a monstrous force to be reckoned with. So during the first arcs, Ashaf is often "reduced" as their supervision and support. But the more the plot moves on, the more we realize Ashaf is even more mysterious than Guideau and might as well be considered as dangerous.
Finally, in the on-going arc (spoilers+++), we're introduced to the summoning of Dragons (plz that scene was absolutely epic) being one of the highest feats of magic...
...and they speak of "only one person who managed to summon an entire Dragon in history".
Later, in the latest published chapters, we're also introduced to the concept of Witche's Disciples through 2 new characters...
and Ashaf is once more rudely looked down upon by another magic user (Dunward was also hella rude during Orlencia Sett), which leads him to say this :
So now I ask you : could it be that Ashaf, the first class mage with many animal familiars, is the one man who once managed to summon an entire Dragon ? Considering I also believe it's not far-fetched that Ashaf may know Angela from a time long past, I wouldn't be very surprised if it was the case (maybe he too received a Witch's favor). :D
Anyway, while we wait for the answer, I gotta show you Ashaf brilliantly beating that fake dragon's ass in a very classy and satisfying way ! :D
It was so not a challenge to him that he managed, mid-fight, to send crows to deliver Guideau's coffin (that lil exchange made me smile a lot xD)
TL;DR let's all agree to stop underestimating Ashaf. x) He's not Guideau's partner just because they randomly met 3 years ago.
