We need to lay more blame for "Kids don't know how computers work" at the feet of the people responsible: Google.
Google set out about a decade ago to push their (relatively unpopular) chromebooks by supplying them below-cost to schools for students, explicitly marketing them as being easy to restrict to certain activities, and in the offing, kids have now grown up in walled gardens, on glorified tablets that are designed to monetize and restrict every movement to maximize profit for one of the biggest companies in the world.
Tech literacy didn't mysteriously vanish, it was fucking murdered for profit.
As annoying as introverts can be online...I think the way people react to people who are alone/lonely/isolated is even more annoying.
Because it's like a cycle right? You feel lonely/make loneliness your personality, you go online and meet other lonely people and make posts about being lonely, people find your loneliness annoying and make fun of you for it thus making you feel even MORE isolated...and on and on and on. Idk. Maybe just. Be less annoying about people being introverted, idk.

Someone else already talked about the iv drip in Bucky’s arm in this scene, but can we talk about the medical readouts? Sadly, I couldn’t find a single really clear screenshot – if anyone with the BluRay has better quality pics, I’d love to see them.
Overall, the displays are fairly cryptic, missing a bunch of what I’d consider important medical information, like clear displays for blood pressure and oxygen saturation. I think the big number in the lower left of the screen might be pulse rate – it ticks up fairly rapidly to 130 when the electrodes come down and Bucky panics. God knows why you’d want to display pulse rate to one decimal place, though, so it might be something else entirely. I don’t know what the other big number next to it is supposed to be, either – that one holds mostly steady somewhere around 60.
The screen to the right scrolls through a CAT scan of Bucky’s brain. Unfortunately I can’t get good enough resolution to tell you whether there’s visible brain damage there.
I’m most interested in the labeled markers on the diagram of Bucky’s body in the third pic, though, the ones I circled in red – because WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT SHIT, and what do you want to bet it’s implants? We see Bucky with his shirt off, so we already know there’s no injury there (well, there might be broken ribs, I suppose), and he doesn’t have visible electrodes attached, either. So. Implants. Trackers. Chemical reservoirs. Remotely triggered self-destruct mechanisms.
Because the goddamn metal arm just wasn’t enough of a violation of Bucky’s bodily integrity.
Holy fuck I’ve been waiting for someone to comment on this for an eternity
screens from 1920x800 copy, to consider: (x)
biomonitor-2 with whole body - CTR biomonitor-1 with brain scans - EEG As you cans see monitors on the left and on the right shows different data, but in both cases the numbers are changing. On biomonitor-1 the only changing numbers are the one on the top left corner: from 109/70 to 110/? at the end of this scene.
All right, THERE we go! As it turns out, the big number I mentioned above is probably NOT Bucky’s pulse rate - the standard vital stats are actually displayed next to the CT image of his brain, they were just illegible in the original images because of the low resolution. From the top:
109/70: I can’t read the label on this, but it’s gotta be blood pressure. 84: From its placement directly below the blood pressure, this has gotta be pulse rate. SpO2 97% (Oxygen saturation) TEMP 98.2°
Those numbers are almost identical on the left and right monitors, so I assume they’re his real-time stats. They’re about what I’d expect for a healthy adult male, apart from the blood pressure, which is almost worryingly low for someone so stressed. (But hey, super soldier. Who knows with them.)
Note that Bucky doesn’t have a blood pressure cuff attached, which means they’re measuring blood pressure internally - which means that Bucky has at least one sensor in one of his arteries that’s capable of transmitting information to Hydra. Yeah, that sounds safe.
Now we’re back to not knowing what the big numbers are. Since the techs are working on his arm when Pierce comes in, they might be arm-related stats?
#okay okay okay #so my lil headcanon is either #1) the circled areas are where damage has occurred/ healing factors are possibly elevated and are being monitored #bc he did get flung off of sams car during the bridge fight scene and most likely sustained injuries #2) they are where failsafe triggers may be located to ensure that he wouldn’t be able to function if he escaped/defied orders #bc failsafes in the leg and arm would ensure that he wouldn’t be able to function at peak performance in a fight #and therefore would be easier to recapture #now i’m equally intrigued and sad bc if this :’)

It is *so* funny when I see Stucky fans whose only Marvel exposure is the MCU refer to Ed Brubaker as "a Captain America writer" like. Guys. Ed Brubaker isn't just "a Captain America writer". He is the reason the Winter Soldier exists. He loved Bucky Barnes as a character so much and was so upset that he was killed off that he became a comics writer and eventually wrote a storyline with Steve Epting where Bucky Barnes was actually alive and the Winter Soldier, eventually reunited with Steve Rogers, and eventually became the new Captain America. Ed Brubaker aged Bucky Barnes up so that he and Steve would only be three years apart, he's one of the main reasons the Stucky fandom is what it is today. Know your history, guys lmfao, he isn't "a Captain America writer", he's the reason for your existence.
Can we stop pretending like the only 2 possible responses to oppression are " meekly lie down and die" or "mass murder civilians" because you can fill the ocean with what loes in between those two options.
hot take: being antisemitic is bad because bigotry is immoral and wrong, not because you might accidentally paint with too broad a brush and be antisemitic to the Good Jews. When that is your paradigm, you (demonstrably) immediately start hunting for proof someone is a Bad Jew that it's okay to be racist to, including the simple fact that they call out antisemitic rhetoric.
jewish people aren’t committing genocide israel is committing genocide and if you still haven’t wrapped your head around that very simple fact i don’t want anything to do with you frankly
I think one thing we need to address in the US if we want to de-stigmatize multi-generational households that include ADULTS from multiple generations, is that parents need to learn how to have adult relationships with their offspring.
Should my daughter deign to live with me when she's an adult she will not be my some vassal that has to obey my household rules. She graduates into being a peer in setting and managing the boundaries, cleanliness and appearance of our home.
Too many parents want to have relationships with grown ass adults in which the parents maintain control and authority, and in which they leverage money and history to get their way from an adult who, very reasonably, wants to be able to make choices and have influence. And then those parents wonder why their kids keep their distance!
But then people act like I've lost it because I let my 5 year old pick the color of paint in her room- a room I seldom spend time in except to take care of her, and a room in which I want her to be comfortable and happy.
I'm not gonna let her choose a paint color for the kitchen right now, because she's capricious and bad at negotiating so we can pick a color we all like. But when she's an adult, if she's still living here? Why shouldn't she get to influence her environment?
People like to have agency. We limit the agency of children because they make choices without the full ability to understand the results (sorry baby, you are gonna get vaccinated for pollio even if you don't like it. You don't understand pollio).
But limiting an adults choices in their own home, just because you don't think that home should be a real home for them because it's just for you, is kind of an asshole move, to me.
No need to argue with me if you disagree. You can have your own opinion.
But I couldn't treat my kid that way, and I have seen enough to know that not every parent treats their adult children like permanently incompetent interlopers.
I didn't just buy this house for ME. I bought it for MY FAMILY. My baby is my family, and she will be no matter how old she gets.
