voted my conscience for the joint arab list this morning. debated the strategic vote for meretz until the last moment, mostly because meretz Knesset members are the only ones who have fought for the rights of African asylum seekers. more power to meretz but they lost me with their lack of clear opposition to the last gaza war, etc. I voted for the joint list in solidarity with the 21% Palestinian citizens of israel who are 2nd class citizens, at best. in solidarity with 4.5 million Palestinians in the West Bank + gaza with no voting rights. I don't have much hope left for this place anymore, at least not in its political system, but this year's joining of the Jewish-Arab + 2 Arab parties has been important and unprecedented, and they will have the 3rd largest party in the knesset. I wore my product of morocco t-shirt to vote, but I'll save my commentary on inter-Jewish ethnic hierarchies for another rambling post.
