ROBERT ARAMAYO as ELROND THE RINGS OF POWER
Watercolors
by Rook Dar Christiansen
Where do you go,
When home is an illusion of safety,
When the door can be broken down,
And the phone is too far away,
To tell someone goodbye.
What do you say,
When a child asks, “Where did they go?”
When there is no assurance of safety,
Come sun or rain or snow.
Children hide in the classroom.
Passports are ignored.
Disabilities are mocked,
When they come knocking on your door.
Where is safety?
Where is hope?
Such words have no meaning in this day.
A home is no sanctuary,
When it is staked out,
And you huddle in the basement shivering,
Wondering how to prove your innocence.
“What do we do?”
The children ask with frightened eyes.
You have no answer except,
“Stay calm.
Sit with me in the quiet of now.
Together we will paint.”
With red and blue, green and brown,
Yellow, black and white.
All the colors have a purpose.
Don’t worry whether they’re wrong or right.
We are all watercolors,
Blending something beautiful onto a single page.
Don’t take half the pallet away;
These colors are here to stay.

Self-indulgent character creation dump because emberwingfeather_thronewarden asked what Lorel looked like and Canva image generator was mentioned and I spent two hours perfecting Loreláthon and Nuréin. (Yes, it’s AI. I write fanfiction for free, I get free fanart.) Obviously some imperfect details, I have low expectations for an erroneous database that plays a questionable role in modern society, but Lorel in a chef’s hat? I don’t know what he’s up to but somebody’s gonna chase him off to guard a goat pen any second now.
So did Narsil become the sword in the stone? (Asking for a friend)
There is a popular theory that Narsil is Maedhros' sword, given to Elros as a gift. I thought that Elrond should also receive a meaningful gift. In my version, the silver harp that Elrond holds in his hands at the end of The Lord of the Rings is Maglor's harp.
Elrond wore a mantle of grey and had a star upon his forehead, and a silver harp was in his hand...
– The Return of the King
Maglor cannot return to Valinor, but his harp will return.
Perhaps Elrond will come to Nerdanel, and she will recognize the harp of her second son. And they will talk
yes for everything except Mags is already in Valinor, there is no other canon, Elrond was just tidying up and realized Atarinya forgot his harp
elrond: I hope you have an explanation for this.
elrohir: We have three, actually!
elladan: Pick your favourite.
The one who convinced Maglor Makalaure Kanafinwe to repent , ask forgiveness of the Valar and sail to valinor , was not Elrond or Elros , Galadriel or Gandalf , it was the one and only Bilbo Baggins .
Ho , ho , ho , don't underestimate the power of an old hobbit in defeating elvish siliness! Good old shire pragmatism !
If you want to thank me dear Nerdanel , pour me another cup of that delicious jasmine tea !
"This is why I have trust issues." —Elrond Halfelven
Elrond's backstory, before the quests: Lord of the Rings, and The Hobbit. A collection of plot points for any fantasy writing, or if you wish to find out more about his past.
I'd love to do canon divergences or weave some of his history to another fantasy or mythology world!
all the trigger warnings.
First Age: The Feanorian descent on the coasts of Sirion destroyed many, shortened long Elven lives, and abducted the young twins Elrond and Elros, then 6 years old. The older brothers of the kinslayers, Maedhros and Maglor, decided to shelter them. Their kin were gone, either died or fled, and their parents sundered on different destinies. The last Elrond remembered of his mother Elwing was her immense sadness, for their father Earendil went out to sea and never came back.
Elrond tried multiple times to escape with his twin, but never succeeded. Through many trials and tries, love and gratitude inevitably grew between foster fathers and young impressionable sons. As Elrond grew up under the training and regiment of the kinslayers, he mastered both song and sword. He often ventured into the wild forests on his own, to hunt or simply to be alone. However, Elrond can't make sense of the conflicting situation the twins found themselves in. Too much ponder might turn to sorrow, to disgust, or to hate ... Elrond doesn't want to be ungrateful, the kinslayers are the reason he and his brother still draw breath.
So the universe gave the family the War of Wrath to busy their minds with, and there Elrond ultimately witnessed the suicide of Maedhros. There would be no respite when a singular dream decided for him that Elros would be separated from him forever. What wrong has he done, aside from daring to enjoy a moment of familial ties with the cruel Feanorians?
At the dawn of the Second Age, Elrond is forcibly moved from one foster family to another. At first he thought being named heir and Herald to High King Ereinion Gil-galad was just a glorified position, something Fate bestowed upon him to appease both the Noldor and the Sindar. What shall he do with such authority and autonomy? He stumbles a lot. The books of proper language stumped his Quenya tongue. But the military was where he rose easily. There are a lot on his shoulders, suddenly and without warning, and so Elrond had to become a master of all trades.
Multiple wars pass into his hands.
The War of the Elves and Sauron, where Celebrimbor's body was tortured and bannered. Elrond found the valley of Imaldris for the refugees and soldiers, and became Lord of Rivendell. Then, the First Siege of Imladris began. It lasted for two years, but Elrond destroyed the forces of Sauron. Here Elrond received the ring of Vilya from Gil-galad, and became the Vice-Regent of Eriador.
The War of the Last Alliance, where all Kings go to die. Oropher died, Gil-galad died, and Isildur took the One Ring, allowing evil to persist. He died too.
The Angmar war lasted 600 years, and destroyed the Northern Kingdom of Man. The Host of the West, along with the forces of Elrond, and Lothlorien, drove away the Witch-King, but did not defeat it. Several heirlooms went to Elrond for safekeeping, and the nomadic Dunedain were established to protect Eriador from the shadows, pathing the way forward for the Quests to take place.
