Ironhide doesn’t say anything for several moments, simply listening to Jolt Drive as she speaks before letting her go and sitting back with a sigh of his own. He doesn’t look at her, instead staring unseeingly at the mess of torn-apart weaponry and tools on the table before him before deactivating his optics and raising a servo to cover his face.
“Yeah,” he finally says, somehow managing to keep his tone level and neutral despite the emotion that’s starting to crowd his processor. Sadness, confusion, guilt… “I know. No matter how much you want someone back, how much you want it all back…” he shakes his helm with another sigh, this time almost shuddering at the invisible effort. “Even if you could get it all back… it wouldn’t be the same.”
It isn’t the same.
Jolt Drive nodded. “I guess I shouldn’t be dwelling to much on the past though. My cousin wouldn’t want me to” She said after staying silent for a while. She looked up. “He even made up a story a month after we came to earth to tell me to keep going forward no matter what and that there’s always someone who can help with the pain of loss and grief.”
Jolt Drive shifted in her seat before she started to tell the story her cousin use to tell her, out of habit. “There were two very close birds in the forest. a cardinal and a humming bird. The cardinal could fly higher than humming bird to search for food or trees to rest in. The humming bird was small and could blend into the flowers, searching for any thing that could harm them. they used their strengths together and were very close friends. One day, a hunter had come into the forest. A stray shot unfortunately had hit the cardinal. The humming bird was struck with grief. She cried and cried. She wasn’t keeping watch that day and wanted to go back so bad. She cried for days. Until she noticed flowers next to the tomb she made for the cardinal. She never put them there. She also noticed food and water appearing next to her when she was grieving. So the next day, the hummingbird waited silently at the tomb and was shocked at what she found. She had been so caught up in her grieving, she did not notice a raven had been taking care of her, bringing her food and water and laying flowers at the tomb. When the hummingbird found out, she offered for the raven to stay with her, in gratitude for his kindness. The raven agreed, telling her that he’d observed her pain and had experienced something similar. He told her that the past was the past and how things could not be changed. Then, he requested for her to do the same for another and help them move forward when it was time for him to leave. The hummingbird agreed and when the raven took his leave, the hummingbird had finally felt better. she still visited the tomb, but started looking out for others. she helped many others through their grief when something went wrong or helped them stay out of danger. many of the creatures that she helped gave her gifts of gratitude for her kindness. However, she learned that the greatest gift she received was the gift she learned from the raven, the ability to let go.”
Jolt Drive then blinked after the story. “sorry for rambling” she sighed

Ironhide remains completely silent as Jolt Drive speaks, completely silent and still, save for the soft humming of his optics cycling in thought. He doesn’t say anything for several long moments, but eventually he lets out a slow sigh and looks back to Jolt Drive.
“I’m sorry, kid,” he murmurs, dipping his helm. This time it’s his turn to reach out, offering a one-armed hug to the young femme. “I think–I think not knowing is even worse than knowing for sure someone is gone. I’m sorry.” He pauses, shaking his helm. “Have to keep your hopes, though. I think that’s all mecha like you and me have out here, sometimes, aside from each other. And you shouldn’t go blaming yourself,” he adds, tone turning a little stern. “It wasn’t your fault. You were just scared.” He shakes his helm again. “Not your fault.”
Jolt Drive looked at Ironhide as he hugged her. She hugged him back in response. “I just wish I could have said at least a proper goodbye to him” She quietly said. “If one of us needed to go do something else where, we at least said a ‘c’ya’ or ‘bye’. I never got the chance to do that when I last saw him” She sighed. “Guess that’s what fear does, makes you forget your little traditions.”
She glanced away, knowing she should stop blaming herself but the issue was who was to blame. There was no way in Primus’ name she was blaming her cousin. “Sometimes I just want my cousin back. He was the only support I ever had before this whole human mess. other times, I feel it’s wrong to bring someone back from the dead, not matter what”

Jolt Drive had be noticing strange occurances in her little forest are lately. She’d hear rustling when she walked around that definatly didn’t sound like the wind or an animal. She noticed treadmarls that didn’t belong to an animal, or her either. She kept brushing it off however. That was until she herad engine revving.
That’s when she knew she had to investigate. It just didn’t make sense at this stage. Humans never came here. Not even the dumb ones. So this was something serious. There was a cybertronian around.
She was searching for the source. Checking for anything that could lead her to it. She hid in the bushes for a bit to make sure the coast was clear at intervals. She couldn’t take any risks when she knew a cybertronian was around. Then she spotted the source. A red cybertronian. She’d never seen them before. Not even back on cybertron. She stayed hidden in the bushes, which didn’t work because of her purple paint. Maybe they’d mistake her for flowers if the saw her. Nonetheless, she watched curiously, wondering what business they had here.
“I’m sure. 100 percent.” He said, wanting to express his slight annoyance but did not. “I’d love to have some Energon, thank you.”
Jolt Drive nodded. “Well, let’s get you some energon then” She bounced before skipping in the direction of her ship. “C’mon! this way” She called, motioning him to follow her. “We’re not too far”
The medic followed her, ex-venting softly. She was so energetic and that’s honestly sometimes annoying. Nevertheless, he saw her as a great friend already.
Jolt Drive lead him to her ship. “Here it is. The good old Bellona” she smiled, standing a few meters away from the ship and looking at it. It was a medium sized Cybertronain ship in a cave. The front was smashed in but the back of it looked fine. “Don’t think it will fly again, but makes for a nice shelter from the elements of earth”
The medic walked over to it, watching it closely. “Of course it won’t fly. Look at it!” He chuckled, waiting for her.
“yeah. Inside’s much better though. Since the back wasn’t affected, I moved everything I could there. Medbay was at the back anyway so if you need to finish any work while your here and need a medical computer there’s that” Jolt Drive laughed “Although I’m surprised how the back is still looking like the day it left Cybertron. But hey, it’s named after a goddess of war for that sorta reason. It can take a huge punch”
“I finished my work for the day so I may not need that. Maybe I do but I’m not sure.” He said with a small smile, glad he did not have to do his work anymore. There’s a reason he came down here. “I can see that.”
“Well, whatever you need, I think I should have it.” Jolt Drive skipped towards the cargo space door. “Oh, and you’re just in time. I redecorated the cargo storage bay into a lounge area!” she told him, excited. “I’m not the best interior designer but I know it’s functional”

Letting out a long exvent, Ironhide leans back into his seat and shakes his helm. “I wasn’t the only one betrayed, kid. We all were, and by someone we all thought be could trust. I just happened to be in his way at the time. If someone else had been there instead of me–”
Ironhide actually shudders at the thought. If it had been Bumblebee or Dino or Sideswipe instead of him… gods.
“None of us ever stood a chance,” he continues, shaking his helm again. “We were tricked, and a lot of people got hurt, not just me. Not just Cybertronians.” Cracking a wry, sad grin, Ironhide shrugs. “None of us ever stood a chance,” he repeats.
Jolt Drive fell silent. She stepped closer to Ironhide again before embracing him in a hug. “I know what it feels like to be unable to stand a chance against someone” She told him. “I lost my cousin to someone like who betrayed you” She shook her helm sadly.
“Why are some cybertronains so nasty? So nasty that they take the time of day to betray you? betray your team?” She asked.
Ironhide falls silent once more, simply leaning into Jolt Drive’s hug. He really doesn’t know what to say anymore. Jolt Drive hasn’t told him much about her team before, or her family.
“Sometimes they genuinely think they’re doing what’s best,” he says after a few moments, speaking slowly. “The mech that betrayed us, I think he genuinely thought he was doing what was best for us–Cybertronians. That doesn’t make any of it alright, of course, but.” Ironhide shrugs.
“I’m sorry about your cousin,” he adds, glancing away from Jolt Drive. “Were you two close?”
Jolt drive glanced up at Ironhide and nodded. “I was close with my cousin. Before all of this, he was the only support I had, the only one who cheered me on. he accepted me and helped me grow. Then the humans who we thought we could trust came and...” She shook her helm. “I never saw them aim at him, I grew so scared that I just kept running and running until I came back here.” She told him
“I was so stupid for letting him let go of my servo. If I had just grabbed it and pulled him along he’d be here, alive.” Jolt drive whispered. “Sometimes, I just want to bring him back, but I don’t know where he is now.”

Ironhide can’t help but stare for a moment, more than a bit surprised by Jolt Drive’s… interest in Ironhide’s history. By how much she seems to care. If she were any other mecha it would make him suspicious, really, but–
Giving a small huff of laughter, Ironhide accepts the hug, pulling the young femme close. “Hey, it’s alright, kid,” he replies, gently patting her on the back. “It’s all ended up OK so far, in my opinion.” He lets Jolt Drive go and tips his helm. “Yeah, I got hurt, but… I got better.” I came back, he doesn’t say. “I left and–just started running, really. And I haven’t stopped ever since. And I think I’m getting better because of it. I met you and a bunch of other mecha out there just like you, trying to stay out of the war and build a life for themselves here on Earth, and…”
And Ironhide is rambling.
He falls silent.
He doesn’t know what to say about everyone getting what they deserved. It’s not like Ironhide blames any of them. Aside from Sentinel, who did get what he deserved, last Ironhide heard, Ironhide blames none of them.
“It’s alright, kid,” Ironhide repeats, finally breaking his silence.
Jolt Drive hugged Ironhide and let go when he let go. She listened to his rambling, every detail she heard connecting dots. But there was something that didn’t make sense to her.
“why? why did they betray you?” She asked “ I mean I've seen your record from this ship’s database from when you were an Autobot. It dates pre-trek to earth but it showed you had your name for a reason, Ironhide. You’d be extremely difficult to take down. I’ve seen you train during your stays here too, you’re an incredible fighter. The information doesn’t add up. Why did someone bother to try taking you down by betraying you?” She wanted to know. She knew Ironhide was a strong mech and she thought that no one would be stupid enough to try and betray him because then that would lead to disaster for the traitor.
I saw a post that was like “mutuals =/= friends” like whoa okay I always thought of mutuals as low key friends but that’s fine let’s make people more insecure of their relationships than they already are
Bruhs, if we are mutuals you are 100% at least low-key level friend to me.
I follow you = acquaintance
Mutuals = low-key friends
I’ve replied to your posts at least twice = high key friends
I actually use the message system to talk to you = I really really like you and probably talk about you to people irl all the time
^ accurate
If I continuously like and reblog your stuff but never actually message you = I am a big fan and super shy but I probably also talk about you to irl friends
if we are mutuals we are friends pls slide into my dms
