Reminder to join my Positive Pin Club, and I’ll send you an exclusive enamel pin, with a bonus postcard and sticker this month! (o^∀^)
I’m sorry, but I was crying with laughter while reading this.
An operative report on a fridge 😂😂😂 Read this haha
“Anesthesia: I wish”
“Specimen: refused by path”
“Patient was returned to right here in ‘meh’ condition..”
Hahahahaha!!
So, these are the words nurses and doctors should never say to patients or their families. Hopefully they’re joking. I mean, I usually try to not use these, but I’ll add this badge buddy to my already bursting badge reel ASAP.
That being said, I’ll probably screw up within a few minutes of my shift. I’m a pretty quick study and we’ll spread the word as soon as we can about this new “never words” initiative.
How to create a study schedule for the holidays
Holidays are just that, holidays. However school and university doesn’t always stop for them. Whilst you’re supposed to be relaxing, there is usually a stack of work waiting to be finished before you go back. After a couple of requests, I’ve put together a small guide to setting up (and following) a holiday study schedule. Keep reading to find out more:
Start early - most students (myself included) generally leave all their work until the last few days of the holidays, then they panic about not having enough time. As soon as you’re able, get started with your schedule. The sooner you start, the sooner all your work is done and you’re free to have a study free holiday. Plus starting early means that you will remember things from your last few classes. If you’ve been off for two weeks and not thought about school, you’ll have to review everything you did before school finish in order to jog your memory!
Write down everything that needs to be done - create a list of everything that you need to finish before you go back to school. I find it easiest to write everything in chronological order and separated by subject. For example, I’d write ‘read chapter 2′, then ‘summarises chapter 2′, then ‘complete review questions’. This way you can see everything you need to cover in the study plan.
Decide how long it will take - estimate how much time all your to-dos will take - maybe a day to type up your class notes, an afternoon to write an essay or an hour to finish a worksheet you didn’t complete. Start fitting in each task around your holiday plans. If you have a spare hour, you could draft that essay you need to write. If you’re spending two hours in the car, print your notes and revise them. Before bed, read the flashcards that you made!
Plan it out - using a calendar or excel, make a schedule for your holiday. It could be daily, weekly, or monthly depending on which way you find it best to plan. Include all the tasks you’d want to complete in that time period. If you get bored easily, break it up into small time periods or change subjects after a few hours! Vary the tasks you need to complete. For instance, no-one wants to spend a day writing essay after essay. Spread them out across a few days and add other small, more fun tasks in between. Here is a study schedule I created which you can download and print! Here is an example of how to fill it out. Design it to what suits you the best, illustrate it or highlight it! Make it something you want to follow.
Take charge of improving your productivity - By planning out your time and setting up a schedule you’re attempting to improve your productivity. Since it is the holidays you don’t want to be spending hours on end finishing work or revising. Find ways to keep yourself accountable for your time. Applications such as Forest or RescueTime are great for helping you stay focused. I also created a post with 10 small tips to improve your productivity. Have a read and try to apply some of them to your studying!
Stick with it - the best way to actually follow your study plan is by being motivated to use it. Put it in a place you see often, for instance near your bed or above your desk. Each morning, see what you need to do and try to get it done. Reward yourself for completing the tasks you need to and cross them off your schedule. However, don’t be afraid to make changes to it. If you can get something do sooner, go ahead but if you miss a day, don’t fret. Either reprint or retype your schedule with new plan!
Take time out - remember that it is your holiday and you don’t need to work 24/7. Have a break, have ten. Take a day to binge watch your favourite show or read that book you’ve wanted too. Don’t feel bad about having some down time, you deserve it!
I hope this helps and you have a lovely holiday! Enjoy the printable I added into the post as well. If you use it, please tag me in any photo you upload! x
how to get the most out of (medical school) lectures
Before the lecture:
print off or download lecture slides (if available)
preview content or lecture outline the night before
make sure you’ve got all the supplies you need (eg. highlighters, pens, paper, post-its, books, charger for laptop if needed)
During the lecture:
actually listen lol and try to understand what’s being said
annotate the lecture slides
if there’s anything the lecturer emphasises, highlight it!
add any additional information that’s not in the slides
bring a bottle of water and/or some gum to help you keep awake and focused
turn your phone off or put it away in your bag to keep distractions to a minimum
when using a laptop to take notes, it’s tempting to start looking at other websites… don’t do it lol
i see so many people in the lecture hall scrolling through their facebook feeds
or tumblr (!!!)
but it’s honestly just a waste of time to attend if you’re not listening
After the lecture:
discuss with friends!
talking about a topic or explaining a concept to someone can really help consolidate your own knowledge
or even bring up points for clarification
if there’s anything you don’t understand, send the lecturer an email or go to their office hours
look over notes made during lecture within the same day
listen to the recording and add any missed information to your notes
go through relevant parts in the textbook
review, review, review!
weekends are a great time for this
the more you review, the better you’ll be able to retain the contents of the lecture
So that’s it, hope this helps! ♡
“How was nursing school?”
Midterm week be like
(on a side note, I love parks and rec!)
Here are some easy changes that you can make to your life to lessen your environmental impact. One thing: some of these tips will not work for you, and that’s okay! I just want to encourage people to do what they can.
1. Use a refillable water bottle. Most commercially bottled water is the same as your tap water, but these companies often push the idea that tap water is inferior.
2. Bring your lunch.
Reusable containers
Bee wrap - can be made yourself, as well.
Canvas bags
This is a good article, but if the things here are out of your budget, check ebay. You might have to try different searches, because what you want might take some digging, but they’re there.
3. Eat less meat. I know being vegetarian isn’t for everyone, but restricting your meat-eating to certain days is still a good measure. At each trophic level, as little as 10% of the energy is transferred to the next level, so eating meat is not energy efficient. Additionally, cows produce a significant amount of green-house gasses, hog waste pollutes waters, and all animals take up land that could be used to grow crops.
4. Avoid single use items.
CARRY AROUND UTENSILS. Keep a reusable spork in your backpack so you don’t have to use plastic utensils. Don’t forget a bag to put your spork in after it’s dirty.
STOP USING STRAWS.
AVOID BUYING COFFEE. Though I’ve never used one of these, since I don’t drink coffee, you can use a reusable coffee cup when you go to stores; just ask if they’ll fill it for you.
BE AWARE OF YOUR NAPKIN USAGE. Or even carry a cloth napkin or handkerchief.
5. Use the front and back. Use both sides of notebook pages and save extra papers to put in a “scrap paper” folder.
6. Buy less. Borrow items that you need for a project instead of going out and buying a glue gun for the one time you’ll use it. Buy second-hand to upcycle items. Think before you buy something; would you buy it if it were 3x as much? Do you really need it?
7. Take the bus, bike, or walk. Maybe less convenient, but I love public transportation because I can do things other than drive.
8. Consider little swaps.
Bar soap and shampoo instead of bottled.
Online planner or planning on OneNote instead of using a physical planner.
Empty shoebox instead of new plastic container.
Reusable grocery bags instead of plastic.
Digitized notes instead of written on paper.
Reusable towels instead of paper towels.
Microwave cover (got mine for $2.50) instead of using plastic wrap.
9. Be aware of yourself. Think about what you are consuming, whether it be directly wasting water, or indirectly through buying something that took water, energy, and resources to make, shift, and house in the store you got it from.
It’s the little things that go a long way :)
