thankful to my past self that liked absolute bangers; my list of liked posts is ducking revolutionary (sorry it’s private I just don’t want to be cancelled for my non-woke opinions)
literally no dermatologist on earth says acne is caused by bad hygeine/lack of a skincare routine btw. its genetic. every single piece of research ever done on acne says its genetic. feel like i need to restate this every time i see a post about skincare
a few years ago i made an identical post to this and someone tagged it with “yeah ive known this from personal experience. because i once spent an entire summer not bathing and the only water that ever touched my face was from public pools yet i never once had any acne” and every single time i see someone talking up their skincare routine this info forces its way back into my brain
dont be a fucking dumbass on this post btw im serious. actually read academic papers on acne dont fucking post correlation is causation shit on this post. every person who has acne has a half dozen multi billion dollar industries constantly trying to convince them its secretly their fault against all published research as it stands. so don’t fucking help them
revolutionary
I needed this drag. Let’s change guys and not look back
working out your brain is a must!!
• hydrate it by drinking lots of water
• eat dark chocolate and blueberries and walnuts and salmon and other foods high in antioxidants!!
• play little brain games on your phone; I like wordconenct! anything that makes you think!
• read books. It’s simple but necessary. Even better - join a book club, or read with a friend, so you can have discussions after. This will improve your reading comprehension.
• do puzzles - it doesnt have to be sudoku, I love playing Beat Saber on the Oculus Rift because it makes my brain have to match colorful patterns to physical movements very quickly!
• learn a new dance - even a tik tok trendy dance. Learning new dance moves are proven to strengthen synapses!!
• go bird watching, or foraging, or anything outdoors that requires you to explore pattern recognition and visual searching
• watch a movie with the intent of analysis - this is best done with a cinephile friend!! talk about tropes and symbolism and character growth
• cross stitch, or sew, or do anything that requires matching nimble hand movements to patterns
• play or learn an instrument!
• develop a consistent sleep schedule (or as close to consistent as you can get!)
• when eating, try to identify the ingredients and flavors you’re perceiving!
I hope this helps :)
I like how this went from me feeling like “hm why is this attacking me 🤨” at first, but feeling grateful seeing an added guide on a genuine expansion on a “ how to” work out the brain. This genuinely helps a bunch. People find solace in doing activities that get them through life by doing said activities of phone/tv or if that’s all they’ve ever known in their life to get them through things + etc tho. However, this was very impt to point out. Slowly beginning incorporating things to work the brain in ones own time.
reblogging so I get reminded every time I scroll
HAPPY BIRTHDAY
Thank you, hello, who is this!
My brother cracked my rib one morning and gave me half of his orange in the evening.
I remember being younger and sometimes wishing to be a single child, to have all the attention and gifts and time but when he was away from home for the first time, I remember crying and stroking his side of the sofa as if blurting out my first wish- for him to be home, without thinking twice, without a shadow of doubt. Even the genie cried. Growing up with a sibling is like being the only people on a stranded boat, constantly figuring out how you can live with them and questioning how you could ever live without them.
One evening, in a fit of anger, I told him how I never wanted him to be my brother and he yelled that he didn't ask for it either. The air smelled like kerosene and my chest was filled with arsenic. I was raging and threw his favorite toy aeroplane down the window, 7 stories of guilt and shame. He cried all night and I wanted to cut off my right hand, the hand that hurt my baby brother. I didn't know if he was ever going to forgive me or even talk to me. The next morning at breakfast, he didn't look at me or say a word, I felt like my chest was about to explode and guilt clouded my vision. But then, I felt a hand quietly holding half of an orange my way.
The only people on a stranded boat. How do you live with them? How could you ever live without them?

He ain’t heavy, he’s my brother
When Khaled Hosseini wrote “a man's heart is a wretched, wretched thing. It isn't like a mother's womb. It won't bleed. It won't stretch to make room for you.” I had to stop, put the book down and breathe because never had a sentence knocked the breath out of me like that did.
And when he wrote, “Learn this once and learn it well, my daughter: Like a compass needle always points north, a man’s accusing finger always finds a woman.”
a poem based on this dialogue
Tried out every genre of study/work focus music there is, and the only one that gets me into the groove every time is the one hour loop of Rasputin.
Reblog to save an ADHD life :)
feel like pure shit just want her back x
The irrational thought that strangers on the internet would judge my mom from my previous post and think her pathetic and without personality keeps bothering me lol so I just wanted to put out there, not just that my mom is a ‘strong woman’, but that she turns old newspapers and pistachio shells into art, and that she makes tiramisu every day for a week until she gets it right, and that she browses Amazon for hours until she gets the perfect little cute glass jars to store her spices in. She makes the unfunniest, most cringe jokes ever and she makes little doodles on her notepad when she’s on a call, she saves glass bottles to put flowers in, she cuts up tetrapacks and lines them up in the fridge to organize her vegetables in, she laughs at the stupidest jokes my brother makes and she sings so out of tune that you want to yell at her to stop, but you don’t because you realize she’s having that rare moment when she’s let herself go. In fact, all these instances are moments where she’s let herself go in some way.
So yeah, just making the point that these things aren’t mutually exclusive. Okay bye ily.
the fucking AUDACITY of some people oh my fucking god
On marriageability and other suitable traits for young girls
This society’s objective of raising its daughters to be the perfect young wives to its men and the flawless community organization that goes into it
Being female in this culture means you are trained to measure your worth based on the benchmarks it gives you to be the ideal marriageable woman. And these are thrust upon you since when you’re a little girl, repeated over and over again at every opportunity by its self-appointed agents: the nosy aunt, the well-meaning pastor, the intrusive neighbour.
And if you still dare not conform, it unleashes all of it’s fury onto you. It chides you and belittles you and excludes you. It turns its back on you. It calls you selfish. It calls you a burden and a headache.
So you balance in between the fault lines, you subtly rebel. You make your identity a reminder of every expectation you fall short of.
You keep your short hair that all the aunties despair over.
You keep your loud mouth and your unladylike posture.
You hold on to your baggy clothes and your pinafore dresses and your colourful little clips.
You retain your aversion to cooking.
And you take comfort in knowing that there’s at least some part of your identity that’s yours alone
It makes sense why debates with men always end with us trying to convince them of how much feminism benefits them too.
It’s an unspoken plea, a pathetic incentive of sorts: if we convince them that we’re fighting for them too, then maybe they’ll listen to what we have to say. Maybe they’ll let us talk about the issues that affect us. Maybe they’ll try to understand the trauma that we endure just for being born a woman. The anguish, the hurt. Maybe they’ll join us in the fight, be on our sides, accept us, fix us.
We’re begging them to treat us better than how the world treats us, please don’t crush our spirits, give us a chance to speak, give us agency over our own lives, listen to us, please please please
and we do it over and over again until that time comes when we realize that it’s futile,
and we continue to exist in a permanent state of exhaustion
