Welcome to Superman Atomic Dailies!

This blog archives comics from the Superman daily newspaper strip. The comics here will be posted in sequential order, starting from Clark and Lois' marriage arc in September 6th, 1949. The dailies themselves started January 16, 1939.

Why start there? Because the official reprinted collections have so far skipped the period from 1949–1959, and unofficial collections are in uncommon file formats and non-chronological. I may add earlier arcs if I can a) find them, b) confirm they have not been reprinted.

Where do you find the comics? In newspaper archives on Proquest. I primarily use Canadian newspapers, with some patching from Ohio ones.

Why are there missing dates? This collection is of the Daily strip and does not include the Sunday strip, a separate publication which has been officially reprinted elsewhere. They are different stories and canons. Some days may be additionally missing if I cannot track them down across newspapers.

What canon is this? The daily newspaper canon is its own continuous canon, although many things introduced in the strip made its way into Golden Age comics, and vice versa. Clark and Lois' marriage (lasting from 1949–1952) did not make it into comics and existed solely in the newspapers.

When will this be added to? When I can, but it's a lot of work (thousands of strips). At the very least, I'd like to collect clois' married years. Currently, my backlog will be uploaded one batch a day, unless I forget.

Who ACTUALLY created these comics? While Wayne Boring's name is on it, he mostly did the Sunday comics. The dailies in this era were drawn by Win Mortimer, sometimes with inks by Stan Kaye. Alvin Schwartz and Jack Schiff were the main writers.

Lois teams with the FBI to hunt down the criminals responsible for Superman and Clark Kent's "death". Meanwhile, Superman has infiltrated the criminals in disguise. Part 8 of the Underground Army arc (finale).

Superman daily comic strip from September 29–October 21, 1950.

After Superman's death, a nervous new criminal starts meddling in the affairs of the Underground Army. Snear and Wratt who killed Superman are joined by their lawyer, Mr. Breef, and two new criminals, "Trigger" and "Gattle-Gun". Part 7 of the Underground Army arc.
