The first artwork I drew is of the waves of the ocean that represents Mozart's Rondo Alla Turca. Although his music is ideally for theatre and plays and shows such as Tom and Jerry, it personally reminded me of the beach waves and how surfers try to paddle up the largest and dangerous waves. The modes of his music would suddenly go faster like going through a very tough challenge and then it would suddenly slow down like overcoming that challenge or maybe losing to it. Still, the song would still go faster just like how surfers would again nd again paddle to the top of the highest wave. The second drawing I drew is of an enchanting native person which represents the Kontra Gapi for me. The music reminded me of festivals, natives, happiness and such, so I drew a beautiful native woman with colorful hair that reminds me of the colors the music has shown in my mind while listening. This also represents how people should start welcoming these native folk music and dances in their lives because it would truly bring more colors to their souls in this modern and complicated world.

The Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) has been a huge industry in the Philippines that showcases the creativity and brilliance of filipinos in terms of creating box-office films and great stories. It also consists of country-based indie films. However, not many people have shown enough support for the indie films broadcasted throughout every year. People would mostly go watch Western movies or Filipino movies with idolized actors and actresses. This has been one of the many reasons why the country's indie film productions have deteriorated. They don't get enough money nor appreciation and support from the filipino viewers. I think that the MMFF can earn its budget goal if people learn how to appreciate the films made by our fellow countrymen and if people respect these filmmakers by not pirating their works. I've been guilty of being one of those people who prefers movies from different countries than ours, but then it changed last year when Heneral Luna caught my interest and appreciation. Most filipinos don't know how great our indie films are despite the low-budget and unfamiliar actors and actresses. They are selling great stories and experiences that have never before been shown. It's also true that the MMFF members should not rely on excelence alone, but on commercial value and technical excellence as well. It's important to consider all these things to reach the goal they are supposed to catch. They can attain the expected income while obtaining good audiences also. Personally, I don't think that there needs to be a specific schedule on when the indie films can be showcasted. Yes, it's a time for family in this eventful holiday season, but at the same time, families can take the opportunity to love and cherish our own films.

Contemporary art helps me become more creative in the things I do and make, and I find myself pouring my emotions on the art that I make in school and even at home. I’m glad that we have this subject because we are able to express ourselves more often in our own different ways. I always find myself enjoying this subject in school because I can see my other classmates’ talents and creativity. This is where we are able to test each other’s capabilities and make each one of us better while at the same time having fun. Although I do hope that the quizes in the future will be easier with less drawings.

I believe that virtual art spaces are better than physical art spaces because it contains a greater and wider form of medium that channels one’s creativity. Unlike physical art spaces, I can easily navigate my work to how I prefer it without too much clutters around that can distract me. I will be able to focus more on the task and discover more horizons in my best ability. Virtual computers have everything people need and want, and I can have it just with the click of my finger. It is also cost-efficient and more resourceful because I won’t need to buy every single material needed for a work to be done. The only problem I have with working in virtual space is that my work wouldn’t look and feel realistic like how I sometimes wanted it to be and it could be easily stolen or copied by users online.

Appropriation can be appropriate in terms of finding a set of guidelines that would help me create my own work. The pre-existing artwork on the left does not necessarily mean it is devalued or defaced as an appropriation because it is basically the origin of my own work. It somehow plays as an inspiration to work on something that I know I could do better with my own creativity. 

If I were to set my own guidelines on using an appropriation, it would definitely be to avoid copying the exact work. I will instead try to create my own design and incorporate at least some minor details from my appropriation. Another guideline will be to limit the use of designs which have been constantly used in the appropriation because I would want to have a unique work. Last rule is to innovate and use my creativity to create something better out of the original work.

I can agree with Leo Benesa’s claim that Amorsolo’s artwork is an example of an art that is expressive of the ethos of the race and predominantly agricultural countryside. The way Amorsolo’s work mirrors the agricultural life without making it better in any form depicts the way some Filipinos live in their environment. It shows the true meaning of life in it but in a different perspective, and it expresses the lives of agricultural people with no means of changing them into better, or what Benesa called it as idealizing.

I don’t think that Leo Benesa’s usage of English in his own literature hinders him and his work into being less Filipino. It doesn’t matter if one uses any forms of language in his own country, but it matters greatly if one misuses it for degrading and abashing the culture. Leo Benesa clearly didn’t use English against his country, but instead he used it to explain and praise the work of a Filipino artist in such a way that can be understood by many people around the globe. His goal is to probably share to the whole world what Filipinos are capable of and how they live their everyday lives.

For this term’s Contemporary Art lesson, I would like to set my goals higher than usual because I would like to have a good mark on my record, and I would like to have a deeper understanding and appreciation for art and artists all around the world. Since I have my own set of preferences on what I think looks pleasing to the eyes, this class will help me broaden my perspectives and it will help me understand art into its own meaning. To achieve this, I will need to be more attentive and cooperative, and I will need to do my best in all the activities that will be upheld during class time. However, it would only be a lot more effective if the class will also be active during class and on the topic that will be discussed, as well as if the teacher will also be able to deliver the lessons in an interesting way. I hope that I will be able to meet the standards that have already been set up in this subject and that I will be able to develop and broaden my view of the different arts in the world through this promising subject.
