Layla laughed, “I don’t either. Honestly the only thing I know is cars and racing. I took after dad with that but I didn’t really have much of a choice either.” Her brows raised and she smiled, “fire fighter. That’s cool.” She shrugged, “that’s fair. I know some people aren’t and that’s okay. You can be the fun uncle though. If you want to.” She smiled, “I don’t mean to jump the gun, but I gotta say it would be nice to get to know each other better. I… I’m sure dad would have liked that.”

“I would love to learn more about it, I mean it sounds like it was something that was really special to dad and I want to know more about anything that was important to him. Maybe make me feel like I knew him just that much more.” Niko said and nodded. “Yup. Been doing it for as long as I can remember.” He said with a smile. “I would love to be a fun uncle, as long as I’m not imposing or anything.” He said and sat up some. “There’s nothing I would love more than to get to know you and your boys better.”

Layla smiled, “yeah they’re pretty good kids. I might be a bit biased though.” She laughed as she fixed them each a drink and brought it to him. “The oldest plays football and the youngest is getting ready to himself.” She smiled, “Why no kids in your future?”

Niko listened to Layla talk about her kids. “Football huh? Can’t say I understand that much about the sport, or any sport if I’m being honest. I’m more of a run into burning buildings type of guy.” He said with a shrug. “I don’t know. I don’t think I’m a parent type of person.”

“I think I’m more sorry since you didn’t have the chance to meet him.” She smiled after all her dad had been a huge driving force for her. “I wanted siblings too but I had kids instead.” She laughed, “two boys. I guess they’re, your nephews.” She said ushering him inside, “you want something to drink or something? l guess we can sit and talk things out and figure out where we wanna go.”

Niko offered her a small smile, though the fact that she had such a good experience with their father and he never got to meet him did make him a bit sad. His eyes widened slightly. “Yeah? That's really cool. I love kids, but I don’t see them in my own future just yet, maybe one day.” He said and nodded. “Yeah, water would probably be a good thing.”

Andrew had never had to buy furniture himself before, but his mother had taken it upon herself to furnish his house before he moved in, and now that he was living there, he needed to make some exchanges so it looked less like a 70 year old woman lived there.  He’d landed on a large black leather couch and a couple of other pieces that were more to his taste and he was ready to head out, but he had time to stop and help out the other man.  “Personally, I’d pick that one, but I prefer a more minimalist style with my furniture, solid color, won’t fall out of fashion years before it needs to be replaced, that sort of thing.  That being said, the other one isn’t a bad choice, but it’s not really what I’d pick, for what it’s worth.”

Niko turned to face the other and nodded his head. “Yeah, I mean that’s what I was thinking too, plus it looks like it’s a lot more comfortable then that one.” He said as he made his decision. “Thanks. I’ve never really had to get my own furniture or anything before so all of this is new to me.” He grabbed a tag for the piece to take to the front and looked at all of the things he had tags for. “Who knew moving could be so expensive.” He said with a laugh.

Layla’s eyes were wide as she fell down on the couch and nodded, “yeah, right. This is… this is a lot to take in at once.” She listened though and she never thought about it. She definitely never considered the possibility of a brother, and with her father being so busy with his job and the car. “He’s passed away a few years ago. I.. I am um sorry, you didn’t get to meet him. He was really great.” She ducked her head, but then looked at the dna test, “I ugh… I mean I can’t argue that.” She said handing his papers back and sighing, “and a part of me doesn’t want to argue it. I.. just think this is a shock to the system. I don’t want to like let you down by promising we will be like best friends but I think we could definitely try to figure out each other and how to work.”

Niko nodded his head slowly as he looked at her. “Honestly I don’t even know how to feel about it.” He said as he frowned. He wasn’t sure why it stung to hear he had passed because he had never met the guy but maybe it was the fact that he wouldn’t get the chance now or that the man he shared half his DNA with wasn’t there. “Oh, I’m sorry to hear that.” He said as he ran a hand through his hair. “I get that. I was raised as an only child and I had begged my mom for a sibling so imagine my shock as I find out I actually had one all along. I would love to see if we can figure something out.”

Niko was still getting things for his new place and he was sitting in the store, trying to decide which chair he thought was more comfortable. He hadn’t really ever bought furniture or anything before because his other places usually came furnished or he spent most of his time at the firehouse but he was only working so many hours right now so he could get to know the new town and his new found family so he thought that he should probably invest in some furniture. He looked over to the person who had been in the same section. “If you had to choose between these two chairs, which one would you choose and why?” He asked as he pointed towards the chairs.

Layla opened the door expecting Ahlai or Luke maybe coming to check on Lincoln but her brows furrowed at the man that stood at the door and she pulled the door a little tighter to her. “Can I help you?” Her brows pulled together as he formulated his words before they rose and stood there in shock for a minute. Shaking her head and blinking rapidly before opening the door wider. “Okay, maybe you should come in and sit down. I… I’m pretty sure I need to sit down too.” She closed the door behind him still trying to think of how that could be? She remembered her father being busy most of the time and rarely having time to go on dates or anything after her parents were divorced. 

She sat down on the couch next to him and sighed, still a little disoriented by the thought of having a brother, “So ugh… why do you think you’re my brother and that we… we share a dad? I would believe maybe my mom over my dad because I don’t… I don’t remember him dating.”

Niko let out a breath that he hadn’t known he had been holding. “Right..yeah sitting down sounds good.” He said as he walked inside and sat down on the couch. “Right..” He said, trying to figure out how to say what he needed to. “So I’ve been asking my mother who my father was my whole life and she just told me. She had never mentioned racing or anything before but apparently she spent a lot of time out at different race tracks and stuff, where she met my..your....our father.” He said as he looked over towards her. “I guess they didn’t really date, or at least for long. He doesn’t know about me...or didn’t..I uh..I don’t even know if he’s you know...alive...is he?” He asked, getting distracted. “Anyways...I took a dna test and found out about you and you weren’t that hard to find with racing and stuff and here I am.” He said as he pulled some paperwork out of his back pocket. “These are the dna papers if you wanted to see them.”

Niko had just moved into his place, which was something he did a lot of. He always seemed to have a hard time settling down and living in one area. This time though, he was on a mission. HIs mother had finally broken down and told him who his father was, after asking and searching for answers for pretty much his entire life. It was a lot to take in and while he was upset about how she kept him a secret both his father to him and him to his father, he was desperate to find any sort of family he had out there. He had taken a DNA test kit from ancestry and he was shocked to find out that he had a half sister.

While trying his best not to be a complete stalker, Niko had found her and then found a job as a firefighter. He had finally settled in and had built up the courage to make contact with his half sister. He walked up to her place, nerves building in his body as he knocked on her door, stepping back slightly as the door opened. “Uh hi...this is going to sound really really weird but are you Layla? Because I’m Niko and I believe we have the same father.” He said, biting his lip as he waited for an answer.
