Jack sighed and nodded his head. “He lost a lot of blood. But after I stitch his wounds up and give him a little bit of blood, his body should kick in a lot faster and start healing itself. He’ll be out of comission for a few days, but other than that good.”
“T..That’s good then - I mean, that he’s healing, not that.. um, not that he’s hurt. But thank you. Really. I - yeah.. thanks..”
“Damn dude, how’d the hell did you get that?” Jack whistled as he noticed the wound that the other man had. “Just sit down and hope that I don’t decide to make it worse.” Jack joked.
“I..Is he going to be okay? I just found him outside, and.. and the closest was the city...”
Regan leaned back on two legs of the chair she’d found, and eyed the sack by her feet. “What am I gonna do with you, you inedible little fucker…” The bag twitched in response, unhelpfully, and gave a tiny muffled meow. “I suppose you’re not that inedible… hardly seems worth it, though. Could skin you for a single mitten, I guess. Or just wait until you’re older…” A shadow fell over her, and she glanced up sharply, on guard.
“B.. But you can’t just.. She’s so cute..” Her eyes focused solely on the animal. “It’d be too cruel to just.. skin it for mittens.. o-or in general.”
“Oh, okay. I’m, uh… no. I’m alone.”
“Well.. Not really, since you have the dog but.. I.. I see. Is it hard? Not being part of a group? I.. I don’t think I could survive.”
“No, it’s all right,” he told her, shaking his head briefly before looking elsewhere. “Are you with a group?”
“..S...Sanctuary. I’m with Sanctuary. You?”
Jude hadn’t heard much of said group, but what he’d gotten already, was that they were rather dangerous. “I… I don’t know. It’s kinda terrible. Also kinda crazy – how humans can be more dangerous than the undead, y-y’know?”
“Exactly.. I don’t understand it at all. S-Shouldn’t we be trying to help each other instead of destroying each other?” Waverly sighed, “S-Sorry, I’m rambling on..”
“Hey don’t say that. If you were stupid you wouldn’t be alive now and yet here you are. Seems pretty smart to me,” she mused as she grabbed a large stick and jammed it in the bottom of the door. “Did you get done checking the place out or should we try again?”
“That.. That has to do with being with Sanctuary - not so much me smart enough to stay alive.” She pointed out, “I only got around this room until I remembered to check the door..”
“Which is unfortunate,” he said. He kept the fact that he belonged in that category to himself. He wasn’t ashamed of it, but he knew how people would react - usually overly aggressive. He wasn’t in the mood for a fight, which was saying something since he was usually the first one to gear up. ”Oh Ah’m not really doing anything,” he said trying to ease any worries she may have had about inturrupting him. “Aye, Sanctuary folks are quite nice.” He said with a nod.
"It really is.. Like, why do people have to do those things?" Her mind went back to the sudden chaos just a few weeks ago when people had started disappearing and getting killed. "We already have those monsters out there t-to worry about.." Her words turned into mumbles the more she thought about it, not understanding what went through their minds to be able to do such terrible deeds, "Oh.. Then, that's.. that's good then - that I'm not interrupting, I mean." She chuckled with a nod, "They are. I'm quite thankful for them."
Figuring it couldn’t hurt Kenzi tried the handle on the door finding that it turned with ease.“It’s Kenzi and I come in peace,” she called as she pushed with all her weight and the heavy door slowly began to open. “This old thing locked on you from in here, huh?”
"K-Kenzi." Her cheeks flared when the other guessed what had happened. Waverly was embarrassed easily even if the other hadn't meant it as a tease. Growing up, she had set high expectations for herself and to accidentally lock herself in was such an amateur mistake. She should have known better to check prior closing the door. "It did. It was stupid of m- I should have checked, but I was .. Yeah.. Thanks for getting me out."
“N-No, um… it’s all right. I don’t mind,” he told her, shaking his head a little bit. “You’re welcome. I didn’t. I try to help whenever I can… there’s only so much… good? — uh, left, y’know?”
“That’s sadly true.. especially with.. those they call themselves Martyrs. W-Why do people do the things that they do? To h-hurt and.. everything.” She bit her lip as she thought about it.
Thor looked over at the other person before leaning forward peeking at what they were doing.. “Soo— Whatchu doing over there..?”
“Hm? O-Oh. I was just.. these are um.. I’m just checking over the inventory f-for my department, in case we’re missing things.. “ She closed her folder, “C-can I help - Is there something I can h-help you with?”
“Oh no, uh” Landon stuttered out for a moment, trying to reassure he was of no danger just got a little harder. “Not a cop, not a thief” he stuffed his wires back in his pocket. “Keys kinda got lost in the whole end of the world thing, but I still didn’t like the idea of leaving my house open, so I learnt to pick locks so I could lock my house when I went out but still get in. Stupid I know” he rambled out, shifting on his feet.
“That’s.. that’s pretty smart actually.” A bit complicated for her to do because she definitely didn’t know how to pick a lot so she was impressed by the action, “I mean.. I would think people would just break doors down nowadays, but s-still, depends where you’re from I guess..”
“It’s all right,” a soft breath of air fell from his lips, something that could probably pass as a chuckle. “Misty,” he answered, watching as she sat down in front of Waverly, looking up at her with a still wagging tail.
“Hey Misty.. “ Waverly smiled, completely enthralled by the dog. “Are you.. Oh- I didn’t even ask.. I hope I’m not keeping you from going somewhere. I am so sorry.” She stood up abruptly and backpedaled a few steps. “I... I mean, thank you for saving me. I hope you .. You didn’t go out of your way.. “
Jude smiled softly as the dog went up to the sniff the girl, tail wagging gently as she did so.
“S..Sorry, I’m just.. all over your dog right now.” She chuckled as she scratched the dog behind her ears. “She’s just.. really really cute. Hey girl..W-What’s her name?”
Jude nodded, reaching a hand down, letting her trot over to his side. “Her name’s Misty.”
“She’s cute..” her eyes followed the dog as she approached the two humans, “Hey..” Her voice immediately went soft at the sight of it.
Thomas laughed softly and nodded as he kept his brown eyes locked on the girl standing in front of him. “Come on. Sit down. Honestly, I’m sure. It’s fine.” Licking his lips absentmindedly, he watched as she took a seat next to him on the bench. So, what were you doing? “Huh? Oh, right um…” He looked down at his hands where the little toy was. “I was just… Thinking.” Thomas swallowed and took a deep breath as he looked at her. “I found this earlier, when I was looking for some stuff and…” Thomas cleared his throat awkwardly. “It just shook me a little bit. It made me realize how unbelievably fucked up this world we’re living in is.” He swallowed and turned his eyes to the wooden toy.
“This was a little kid’s toy.” His voice cracked and he took a deep breath.
“Think about..?” She didn’t want to pry of course, but if he wanted to tell her then she was happy to lend an ear. If not, well, they’ll just have to talk about something else. Her eyes dropped to the toy and she could already imagine the children out there in the world, having to grow up at such a time. “It’s.. I wish they didn’t have to live like this. We had our chance to grow up.. I guess.” She bit her lower lip as she thought about her younger self. It wasn’t ideal for her either, having to go from family to family. “Did you.. did you have siblings?”
“Don’t mention it.” Landon reassured with a shrug. He took a few steps back once more to give her the space to feel comfortable, understanding the caution that everyone had to have these days. “Yeah, had me a bit surprised too, lucky I still carry my wires around. Might have been a bit of a shoulder ache otherwise” he nodded slightly, shifting about on his feet slightly, a nervous habit. “Nice to meet you Waverly. I’m uh-…I’m Landon”
While there were still dangers lurking out there, Waverly felt a bit safe out in the open. If anything happened, she could just run - right? “W-wire?” She cocked, “Why would.. are you a cop? Or a thief? I think t-thieves have them too....Not.. not that I’m calling you a thief..”
