Gaz on the reunion with rob

Gary smiles: ‘Rob is really incredibly sensitive. He’s changed. Big time. He’s 38 now. He’s a dad. He’s not the Robbie I knew. He may as well have a different name and a different face because he is a totally different person.

'It meant a lot to both of us when we made up. It was always something that felt wrong. I never understood why it all went wrong. I’d think of it at night sometimes, it was like this permanent stone in the shoe.

‘But it wasn’t easy when we got back together. At first the friendship was very artificial. It was that awkward bit where you did a lot of hugging but not really talking.

‘We only really started talking, started being honest, when we started writing together a few months later.

'There were tears but it was more that neither of us really could work out why this madness had happened.’
